What is Pandora FMS?What is Pandora FMS?
● Pandora FMS (Flexible Monitoring System) is a monitoring software
for a general purpose.
● Pandora FMS allows measures the state of:
✔ Systems/Servers.
✔ Applications WEB.
✔ Communications
✔ Applications (Unix/Windows).
✔ Power consumption, temperature...
✔ Business applications.

Pandora FMS rootsPandora FMS roots
Pandora was created in 2002 in the security department of an international
bank.
Pandora was created with the objective to maintenance of systems and services
by technical staff with strong experience in a IT sector. With the passage of time
and input from customers and users Pandora FMS became a vital tool to
support the business of many companies of all kinds of industries.

Who is developing Pandora FMS?Who is developing Pandora FMS?
● Pandora FMS is developed by Ártica Soluciones Tecnológicas.
● Pandora FMS to be OpenSource Software, has code
contributed by dozens of people around the world.
● Artica acts as project leader and driving force of development,
and also develops other OpenSource projects:
(*) Public data from Sourceforge and Openideas.info

Who uses Pandora?Who uses Pandora?
● Pandora FMS has a user community of more than 2.000 users
and over 400,000 downloads (*).
● Customers like Telefónica have chosen Pandora FMS to
replace other monitoring tools (HP OVO, Tivoli, NetIQ)
achieving significant cost savings.
● Pandora FMS is used by customers in five continents (see
references).

What monitors: TechnicallyWhat monitors: Technically
Networks
Full support for SNMP, TCP, ICMP, etc ...Automatic network discovery.Intermediate network probes for complex networksAutomatic and manual topological maps
Servers
With agent or remotely. All the OS (Windows, Linux, AIX, HPUX, Solaris) Agent collects information from the server. In terms of OS or application.
WEB
Step by Step navigation (sessions). Loading times (user experience). Content verification. Valid to verify web webservices and API's.
SensorsCPD's sensors (temperature, flood ..)Electricity consumption. It integrates with various devices on the market.

How do Pandora the monitoring ?How do Pandora the monitoring ?
Agents running on servers used to collect information directly
from them.
You can use remote polling Networking: SNMP, TCP, ICMP ...
and more complex tests: transactional Web, DNS verification,
mail, etc ...
Centralizes all the information in a database.
Enables users to view that information and manage the tool
from a web interface we called Console.
The Pandora server is the one who receives information from
the agents, or who makes remote network testing.

Why choose Pandora FMS!?Why choose Pandora FMS!?
17
Benefits of using Pandora FMSBenefits of using Pandora FMS
Same tool for different environments.
Simple management (GUI).
Extreme Scalability (100,000 + servers).
TCO very low compared to other similar solutions, even with costs of
leave (OpenSource!).
Integration with business (ITSM).
Evaluation time (time-to-value) very fast (OpenSource!)
Scalable licensing model.
Access to the source code for customizations in-house (OpenSource!)
18
Advantages over competitionAdvantages over competition
Best cost / benefit.
Increased flexibility and integration capability.
More potent agents and platform.
Linear scalability.
Capacity and historical indefinitely.
WEB Multi Light interface.
Number of features.
International Support.
Great user community.

OpenSource vs. EnterpriseOpenSource vs. Enterprise
● Built on the Open version: Benefit from all knowledge of the
community.
● Simplify administration: Using tools designed to manage thousands
of systems simultaneously (political, MetaConsole, wizards ...)
● Professional support. For sure you´ll sleep better if you have the
personal support of the people who developed Pandora and has
experience in operating in large environments.
● Several unique Enterprise features.
20
Licensing of Pandora FMSLicensing of Pandora FMS
● The Enterprise version has a cost:
✔ Annual licence fee.
✔ The price includes enterprise code, support and maintenance.
✔ It is licensed by number of monitored servers or devices.
✔ It doesn´t includes 24x7 support that is apart from the price of
the license.
SOFTWARE + SUPPORT + MAINTENANCE = Enterprise Licence

Simple collection of information.Simple collection of information.
● Pandora FMS does not use dozens of layers of abstraction
that slow getting information from the machine.
● It uses native commands to collect information directly on the
machine.
● Use the native Windows API to get the information directly.
● PERL on Unix Agent (Common).
● Agent C + + on Windows.
29
Get information directly from the engine performance manager for Windows
(PDH).
Get WMI information directly on your own motor.
Integrated Motor regular expressions for text processing logs (libpcre).
Watchdog integrated detection and restart real-time
processes and services.
Lee directly (without using WMI) Windows events, with
several levels of filtering.
You can read data directly from an ODBC source.
Windows-specific agent.Windows-specific agent.

Modular plugin systemModular plugin system
● Allows extend the functionality of the agent with
complex tests as defined in any language (VBS,
Java, scripting, etc).
● Allows batch testing of complex and incorporate a
simple and autonomous.
● It can leverage existing monitoring mechanisms and
integrate them into Pandora FMS.
● The modules are interchangeable and reusable
across different agents.
31
There are several ways of integration with Pandora FMS through several
mechanisms:
● Pandora management tool for command line, for better integration into
scripts.
● Direct suites Intregración IBM Tivoli and HP OpenView
● WEB API easy to use (REST).
● Export / Import with CSV.
● URL actions in the GUI allow you to contextual integration.
Integration facilitiesIntegration facilities
32
Flexible and adaptable architectureFlexible and adaptable architecture
● Agents can connect to the server
using proxies (HTTP mode / Connect)
● Agents can be proxies for other
agents, centralizing all communication
with the destination server.
● Communication is always from the
agent to the server.
● It uses the standard protocol (IANA)
Tentacle, which we developed
ourselves.
33
High Capacity / ScalabilityHigh Capacity / Scalability
● The MetaConsole, implements a way
to distribute the monitoring of different
Pandora FMS servers physically
independent.
● Each server has its own database,
console and server, and of course
their own agents, alerts, reports, and
even users, groups and policies.
● We can control tens of thousands of
devices in this way.
34
Pandora FMS RequirementsPandora FMS Requirements
35
Basic requirementsBasic requirements
● Runs on basic servers and also use the multicore-systems,
using the hardware provided to the maximun capacity.
● Parallel processing: Can use different physical servers, allowing
a progressive scalability by just adding new servers.
● Average server: 4GB RAM, Multiple core CPU (2000 agents).
● Works on Linux.
