DESIGN for CHANGE - 2014
OUR SCHOOL
FEEL
There are many plants and
trees in our school but we
don’t have a kitchen
garden
There is a heap of waste material like
plastic covers, pet bottles, bags etc are found around the
village.
Due to lack of rain our lands could not be cultivated, we feel hot everywhere
Problem :-
Lack of cleanliness and greenery around the
village and dumping of plastic waste
materials.
Solutions :-
Approaching the Panchayat Office.
Making the villagers aware of the prevailing
problem.
Showing a real model.
IMAGINE
Asking permission to do the project
Collecting information from the newspaper
Collecting information from the website
DOWe collected plastic wastes lying around the village.
From Plastic bottles to newspapers everything is reusable
An area was selected in the school campus for KITCHEN GARDEN. Seed bed was created and vegetable seeds were sown
We selected many pet bottles, broken buckets, mugs and plastic containers, filled them with garden soil and planted some seeds and saplings
KEEP CLEAN & GROW GREEN
A separate Vermiculture pit was created to supply manure for the garden. Thus the vegetable and midday-meal wastes from our kitchen were effectively used
VERMICULTURE
If there is no sufficent place for gardening, we shall keep VERTICAL GARDENING. It is a real joy taking care of the plants.
VERTICAL GARDENING
WASTE MAKES MONEY
We hope to get all the vegetables for our school from our kitchen garden.
Gardening is a creative pastime and a right step towards protecting the environment. It is the connection of the soul to the soil. We are convinced that having a garden is good for us and Mother Earth.

PLANNING TO PLANT TREES OUTSIDE
Planting saplings outside the school
Everyone must plant a sapling to mark any celebration.
We invited the villagers and explained them about the importance of having a clean and green environment by showing our own garden. We urged the villagers to segregate bio-degradable and non bio-degradable wastes. Each one was presented a sapling that was grown by us. The villagers and the pupils decided to plant the saplings on both sides of the road to get shade. If everyone takes simple steps like this, we can save our only Home in this Universe.
