It is in the Garhwal hills, on the banks of the Alaknanda River.The town lies between the Nar and Narayana mountain ranges and in the shadow of Nilkantha peak (6,560m) Badrinath is located 301 km north of Rishikesh. From Gaurikund (near Kedarnath) to Badrinath by road is 233 km. How To Reach Badri Nath : The nearest airport is the Jolly Grant Airport near Dehradun, (317 km). The nearest railway stations are at Haridwar (310 km) and Rishikesh(297 km) and Kotdwar, (327 km) respectively. There are regular buses operating to Badrinath, from New Delhi, Haridwar and Rishikesh.     Badri(Panch Badri)

    Another Badri pilgrimage centre of local importance is this group of 16 temples enroute to Ranikhet and

    close to the confluence at Karan Prayag. The main temple is dedicated to Narayan and has a raised

    platform in the pyramidal form. Within the temple, a black stone idol is installed. It is believed that these

    temples, dating to the Gupta age, were sanctioned by Adi Shankaracharya who wanted to spread the

    tenets of Hinduism to every remote corner of the country.
