Every student eagerly arrived with plastic gloves and bags to participate. Year 5 and 6 did a great job of cleaning our silver seats, they are now sparkling. Our school is now very clean and we will be encouraging the students to ensure all rubbish is correctly placed in our school bins. Junior Rugby League Our first game of the season was against our arch rivals Panania at Killara Reserve. The boys were very excited and couldn’t wait to play. We played excellent football and played as a team and the boys should be very proud of their efforts. We won 20-8 and Yianni G was awarded player of the match for his hard runs and brilliant tackles. Senior Rugby League We played a very talented Panania team and lost 20-8. It was 8-8 at half time and the boys defended brilliantly. We ran out of puff in the second half but we have a lot of improvement left in us. It was a gallant effort from the whole team. Hayden S was the player of the match making around 100 tackles. Junior Netball Our junior netball team got off to a superb start with the girls gelling together to win the match 13-0 against Padstow North. It was a team display with all the girls playing a part in the win. The play of the match was Neveya H for her never give up attitude and wonderful display of sportsmanship. Well done girls Senior Netball The senior netball girls took a page out of the junior’s book and started the game strongly. The girls defeated Padstow North 15-6 with an outstanding team display. The player of the match was Paige G for her fantastic work as goal shooter. Keep up the good work girls.

Attendance Last week, our school begun to use our SENTRAL database to send out emails to parents who have students absent each day. Parents who have had absences unexplained will receive a letter requesting this information. The school has student attendance checked regularly by both the Home School Liaison Officer and the School Auditors. Parents are responsible to ensure all absences are explained and the school is legally responsible to demonstrate to the auditors that we have followed up on all unexplained leave. The school is given clear guidelines on what is classified as justified or unjustified leave. The Principal has ultimate responsibility in ensuring these guidelines are followed for legal reasons. Our attendance records are legal documents and the Department of Education takes the attendance of students very seriously not only for education reasons but also for their wellbeing. 2016 International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) This year we will be entering the ICAS school exams. The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) are independent skills-based assessments with a competition element. Commonly referred to as the UNSW tests, ICAS is unique, being the most comprehensive generally available suite of academic assessments and school tests for primary and secondary school students. A new ICAS test is developed annually for each subject in each year level by our team of subject matter experts. All ICAS tests are reviewed by experienced teachers to ensure that they accurately assess students’ skills and are relevant to what they are learning at school. Each test is sat at the student’s school and is invigilated by teachers under normal examination conditions. Student Representative Council (SRC) During the past week Year 1 to Year 6, teachers have introduced the SRC election guidelines to their students based upon Get Voting guidelines which can be found at http://apps.aec.gov.au/GetVoting/, sought class nominations and issued nominee application forms. The SRC election will use voting called “first-past-the-post”. The candidates who receive the most votes will be elected. Next week, teachers will be collecting signed nominee applications and conducting elections by secret ballot. The results of which will be published in the next newsletter. The school would like to acknowledge and thank teachers for promoting and supporting students throughout the election process and wish all candidates good luck.

Eligibility Rules. SRC representatives are entitled to serve 1 semester per 2 year cycle. The 2 elected students will be based on merit, not gender.

Elected Student Representatives Councillors are expected to:

Uphold and model school rules. Attend leadership meetings and report initiatives to their class. Decide and organise which school and community service activities the

students will support. Listen to their class members’ ideas and provide feedback at the SRC

meetings.

welcome School Banking All students should now have received the School Banking package which explained how the program operates, how to open an account and also details of the reward items and coupons for this year. If you haven't opened an account yet the School Banking Specialist will be at the school on Thursday 31 March at 8.30am to assist you in opening a Commonwealth Bank account. The reward items available for Term 1 are: Flying Snake Tail Wildlife Writer Set * Galaxy Glider * Intergalatic Rocket * ET DVD * Dollarmites and Outer Spacesavers Moneybox * These items are only available while stocks last. Any brothers or sisters who have yet to start school or who have moved onto high school are able to participate in the program. Just include their banking with their siblings class. Please remember to complete all details on the deposit slip and receipt especially the account number and student details. Cash should be placed in the sealed section of the banking wallet and not left loose in case it falls out into the students bags. Remember it is not about how much you bank but to deposit weekly so that you can save up 10 tokens to earn a reward item. Lost Property There are a number of items in the lost property bins at the moment. Please check to see if your child is missing any items of clothing. Please ensure that your child’s name is written on all items that they bring to school. This helps in being able to return these lost items to their owner. The bins will be emptied on Friday 11 March with the remaining unlabelled items being sent to the uniform shop.

Advertisements The school often publishes information on behalf of Community groups – parents need to decide the appropriateness of activities involving their child. It is the responsibility of each parent to research the

bona fides of any organisation in which you wish for your child to be involved in.
