GDP ContributionHeavily enriched with minerals, ample scope of tourism, latent trade prospects in the wake of promising agriculture, if well nurtured, will turn the economically dormant region into an active part of nation.
Maharashtra has the highest contribution to India’s GDP.
Agriculture cultivable medicinal and
aromatic plants
Endowed with suitable agro-
climatic conditions which
offers vast potential for
agriculture, horticulture, flori
culture, poultry-duckery-pork
farming.

Constraints
• use of conservative techniques
such as JHUMMING.
• fragmented land holdings which
doesn’t yield economical
benefits.
• soil erosion due to poor
drainage system and floods.
•Absence of processing industries.
•Lack of infrastructure.
•Poor investment
•conventional techniques being
used in handlooms.
•False fear in the minds of tourists.
•Unawareness in the outer world
about the exotic beauty of the North-
East of India.
Solutions
• building skills in the farmers to
use modern agricultural
techniques in like proper
irrigational methods and
fertilizers.
•Encouraging the formation
farmer cooperatives and SHGs.
•Promoting more cross border
trades.
• developing road and rail links
to enhance delivery of goods.
•Reduction in taxes to promote
local trade.
•Attracting the niche tourist
group through rural and eco
tourism.
•Widespread promotion
through print and electronic
media
It is the root cause of all the problems in NER of India.
The government needs to tackle terrorism militancy and
insurgency as a matter of urgent national priority.
The AFSPA act,1958 was not just the solution for
tackling it. Irome Sharmila and many NGOs of states
are protesting hard against the act. The act allows the
misuse of power by military such as unconcerned killing
of locals. The injustice done to the tribal results in
alienation of these people with the state and central
governments.
So the best solution that can be thought of, is the
dilution of AFSPA and thus the banishment of
insurgency.
Thus the insertion of economic
policies, employment, educational institutions will
resist the mass indulgence in insurgency.
Maltreatment
under AFSPA
• Misuse of
power
• Civilians are
being harmed
and killed .
• Faith and hope
have been
downtrodden
among the
native
Process of dilution-
An institutional body must be set up for the officers deployed there which
include-
Institutional personnel Tasks
NGO’s personnel selected
by government
Unwrap the shrouded loss
of life and property
Retired defense personnel To work at administrative
level of institute.
Selection of the volunteers.
Retired professors from
the schools of and public
management.
Impart lessons of humanity.
To sow the seeds of
confidence among locals
toward armed forces
The course will be at least of
2 weeks.
hired professionals ratio will
be 1:2:3
1 year job is mandatory
Syllabus-
• minimizing the use of force
• Instilling the feeling of
oneness
Advantages-• alienation of people with
the country will reduce
• easy implementations of
government’s development
policies
• infiltration of the
neighboring countries will
not get the local supports
Tourism has an untapped potential to boom the annual revenue of states and increase employability.
Steps to flourish tourism are-
SOOCHNA
Anointing a Brand Ambassador-
• Anointing an icon with high credibility and visibility.
• will help in arousing the mass.
• an increase in 15% in no. of tourists is evidenced by Gujarat after choosing Amitabh
Bachchan as their Brand Ambassador.
Print Media and Electronic Media-
• National Dailies cover mere 0.1% of news of NER states.
• provisions for compulsory advertisement in national dailies and magazines, once in a
month , will prove out to be a blessing in disguise.
•Rewards for short films(approx.2 mins) delineating scenic beauty shot by the volunteers
from premier institute will drive an inclination among the interested groups. These films
showcased in multiplexes should provide multiplexes a partial exemption from taxes.
• Campaigning through social networking sites with liveliness and rigor.
WOW- Wisdom on Wheels
• Exhibition trains addressing culture and biodiversity of NER should be railed along the
golden quadrilateral, once an year.
TOURIST GUIDES-
• A palpable increase in hospitality can be seen by the presence of tour guides, armed with
minimal English training.
• Targeting disguised employed people in an adequate number.
• Climate, safety, beauty and other local conditions are best known to local guides.
ISLAND BUNGALOWS-
• Exquisitely crafted island bungalows will draw attention from the domestic as well as
foreign tourists.
• Representing natural beauty of the region.
• away from modernization.
• interior influenced with ethnic culture.
•Built from natural regional resources.
HOMESTAY-
• A brilliant way to husband the limited resources and will also help in diluting the
alienation.
SAFETY MEASURES-
People seeking license for homestays must have clean track record.
direct helpline numbers to contact the police should be provided to the tourists.
homestays should be in the vicinity of police stations.
SWAGAT
The steep slopes and large acidic soil cover hinders the crop cultivation on large scale. But on
other hand, has a high potential for horticulture, floriculture, tea, cocoa plantation etc.
POTENTIALS•16% share of World’s largest tea producing region has also high potential for cocoa and coffee.
•Great yield prospects of medicinal plants, flowers and orchids.
• Commercially viable land for bamboo production as India is the 4th largest consumer of bamboo.
•Produces a varied variety of fruits, nuts and spices which have a trade potential at commercial level.
MEASURES TO INTENSIFY AGRICULTURE•Steps to be taken by ICAR-
a. Promoting agricultural fares for training farmers to use fertilizers and modern machineries and make
them available at cheaper rates.
b. Easy loan facilities through government for farming.
c. Building competitive cultivable farms with the help of private industries inspiring farmers to use new
techniques.
d. New techniques such as tissue culture and mixed farming should be intensively promoted to boost the
production.
• Forest cover can be replaced by tea plantation which maintains sustainable balance and reduce
soil erosion as being practiced in Brazil.
• Water harvesting techniques such as rain water harvesting, ground water extraction, creation of
surface storage of water, ex. Harvesting tanks, reduction of water vapor loss, micro water shed
should be taught to the farmers.
It involves-
1. Identifying and helping in setting up local industry.
2. Cross border trade.
DEVELOPING LOCAL INDUSTRIES-
