The Here is the Now
The Passion of Christ on the Cross is the Place
In the desert we learn that silence is where the noise of God dwells On the mountain we find that powerlessness is where God reveals gifted strength In the temple we find that emptiness in the soul is where the fullness of God exists In the places of revealed light we find the darkness of sins forever forgiven In the place of death we learn there can only be new life All of this leads us to this moment in time and history yet to be experienced THE HERE IS THE NOW Everything had to take place in this sequence THE PASSION OF CHRIST ON THE CROSS IS THE PLACE We are never to be the same again Fr. John J. Ouper

STEWARDSHIP
This weekend we participate in the proclamation of the passion and death of Jesus according to the Gospel of Mark. In the extended version of this weekend’s Gospel reading, Jesus is at Gethsemane, praying to His Father, in much emotional distress. He knows He can save himself. He can escape over the Mount of Olives in the dead of night and make his way safely into the Judean desert. Instead, Jesus chooses obedience to His Father and waits for His persecutors. As Saint Paul puts it in the second reading, Jesus is “obedient to the point of death.” Jesus’ obedience is a lesson for those who are good stewards of their life in Christ. Let us reflect on how we might be more obedient to the will of God instead of our own will.

WE ARE . . . . PARTNERS IN CARING. Thank you to everyone who has pledged their support to the 2018 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA). Your gifts will benefit so many through the thirty ministries our annual appeal supports. Our parish’s goal for the 2018 CMAA is $107,600. Our hope is that every parishioner will contribute as partners in caring, as every gift—large and small—makes a difference. If we raise more than our goal, 70% of the amount paid over goal will be returned to us for our use. This is an amazing opportunity for our parish! Please prayerfully reflect on your pledge to this year’s CMAA. In-pew envelopes are still available in the church literature racks or you can make a gift online at jolietdioceseappeal.org.
Pledge your gift to the CMAA!

LENTEN REGULATIONS and the EASTER TRIDUUM
1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent.
2. Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of age is bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good
Friday. 3. On these two days of fast and abstinence, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless
meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously, affected, the law does not oblige.
4. To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is seriously sinful. 5. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Christian year. All of the faithful are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of voluntary self-denial (in addition to following the Lenten regulations), serious prayer and a performance of charity and mercy.

MERCIFUL WAYS—MERCIFUL WORDS
The Final Week The week begins with blessed hosannas. Then a broken jar of perfumed oil poured on one head. Then a meal with new bread and new wine. Then a garden. Then the cross. Then burial and waiting. † How will I slow down and keep this week holy?
† How will I mark the days of the Paschal Triduum with special prayer?
† How will participation in the rites of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil enrich
my Christian life?

God Uses Unlikely Vessels…….
…..are you open to unexpected ways to serve God?
Youth Ministry is in need of Godparents for the incoming Freshman. See what past Godparent couples have experienced! It was a privilege and honor to work with the teens of St. Anne’s from September 2013 – May 2017. Of course you never really know what you are getting into when you get started and a 4 year commitment is quite an undertaking and responsibility. We prayed for God’s guidance and the call to serve which came and we never questioned or regretted the decision! Deacon Duane and Chris put their heart and soul into every aspect of the program which you immediately know and feel. Serving as a Godparent was not always easy when it came to the planning and preparation for meetings. The time and commitment and time spent with the teens was priceless! Each of the teens in our group have meant so much to us and we could not be prouder of them and their accomplishments. The program was invaluable and will have a lasting effect on the teens. Each came from a different background, friends, interests and talents. Each had an understanding of their own little world but by gathering each week they were exposed to differences and expanded their viewpoints that they will come to appreciate more than they know in the future. We did service projects and discovery of their faith. Those experiences exposed them to a life of service that will help make our world a better place. The emphasis of our time together was on living our faith and we believe they are now more comfortable knowing how to live as a Catholic. We hope God will continue to call each member of our group into service and that we all take the leap of faith to bring what little we have to others to grow Gods kingdom abundantly. Christine & Tom Casey Please contact Deacon Duane at 630-554-1425 ext 116 if you are interested or would like more information.

SACRAMENT OF THE SICK If there is anyone at home who cannot get to Mass and the Sacraments because of illness or age, please call the parish office at anytime to request the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Those interested in becoming Catholic or in learning more about the Catholic faith meet weekly. Call the parish office or e-mail [email protected] for more information. STEWARDSHIP PARISH We are a stewardship parish. This means that every parishioner with an income is asked to use a Sunday envelope, since we expect to meet our needs from the one collection at the Presentation of the Gifts. NEW PARISHIONERS All new families are warmly welcomed to Saint Anne Parish and we ask that you register your family through our website: http://stanneparish.org/registration-form/.
MISSION STATEMENT God has called us to be Christian witnesses by the precious gift of our Catholic faith through Baptism. Just as Saint Anne had a role in God’s plan so do each of us. We are called to faithfully teach and live the message of Jesus. We listen to God’s word, grow in our understanding of it and respond to it through outreach and service in our own parish as well as the wider community. We exercise our responsibility to develop and see the gifts God has given us for the common good and to insure that our Eucharistic celebrations are truly joyful and meaningful. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Baptisms are generally held the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month (some months this may vary) at 12:30 PM. Expectant parents are to call the Parish Office, six months before the birth of their child for preparation information. Please do not choose Godparents until you receive the established Church guidelines for Godparents. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE Couples seeking the Sacrament of Marriage should call the parish office at least six months before the date of marriage. A wedding date may not be secured until meeting with the parish Deacon or Priest. At that time, the couple will be secured a date and begin the process of preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage.
