Daly Notes…
It is hard to believe that it’s Holy Week. Holy Week is the most important week in the life of a Catholic
Christian.
Monday is the final night for Lenten Confessions 6:00- 7:00 PM
On Tuesday, April 11th at 11:00 AM, Archbishop Blair will celebrate the Chrism Mass or the Mass of the Oils
at the Cathedral. Please know that all are invited to this very special and unique liturgy. If you have never
been, please think about attending since it is always a wonderful experience.
Holy Thursday
On Holy Thursday, we celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper – that commemorates the institution of the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper. The priest, who represents Christ also ceremoniously, washes the feet of
12 people in the congregation.
After the Last Supper and before he was arrested and condemned to death, Jesus went to pray in the
Garden of Gethsemane, accompanied by two of the disciples. So, after the Holy Thursday Mass, the
remaining sacred hosts are carried out of the sanctuary to an “altar of repose,” and the people go with the
Eucharistic Christ in a procession to the altar of repose. People stay for a time; adoring the wondrous sacrament that Jesus instituted that day 2,000 years ago.
Good Friday
On Good Friday, the church gathers for the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion, which includes a reading of a
Gospel account of the Passion, Holy Communion (consecrated at Mass on Thursday night), and veneration
of the Cross. Ceremonies take place at 3:00 p.m. – the hour at which Christ died on the cross.
Holy Saturday
On this day, the Church waits at the Lord's tomb, and meditates on His Passion and Death and His descent
into Hell. With prayer and fasting we await His glorious Easter resurrection.
Easter Sunday
Easter morning Masses will be celebrated at:
8:00, 10:00 and 11:30 AM
If you don’t traditionally make it a habit of taking advantage of Holy Week, you really do not know what you
are missing. Easter has so much greater meaning for us personally when we do Holy Week right.
So, join us; you will be glad you did!

THE LEGION OF MARY
(WORLD-WIDE ORGANIZATION)
Did you ever wonder after a homily, how am I serving God? Can I do more to spread God’s word by my actions? Do I really see Christ in the people I meet? Many questions. The answers can be found by committing to God through Mary.
Frank Duff founded The Legion in Ireland. He formed it to be a sign of Mary’s maternal love for the world, and a means of enlisting all her children in the church’s evangelizing work.
We strive to keep Catholics connected to the active parish, not forgotten!
Get involved and keep your Lenten resolutions active throughout the year.
Saint Mary Legion of Mary meets on Tuesdays at 12:00p.m. Please call Carol @860-706-9072 for more information. WE NEED YOU!

Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
Today is Palm Sunday. While we’re trying to painstakingly create crosses out of palm
fronds, we should take some time to ponder the meaning of today’s festivities in the grand scheme
of the biblical narrative, especially as it is the first day of Holy Week. In the gospel of Matthew, we
hear of Jesus’ arrival into Jerusalem amid large crowds throwing cloaks and branches on the road
upon which His donkey walked. In the scripture, the crowd is singing “Hosanna in the highest,” as
Jesus rides into the city.
If you translate the word hosanna from Hebrew, it was traditionally used as a jubilant
welcome. In that context, the direct translation would be “May God save him.” The Jewish crowds
would be operating under the (very true) assumption that Jesus was the Messiah, and they would
ask for God’s protection over Him so that He would be able to grant them the freedom they had
been promised in centuries of prophecy. The Jews were awaiting a Messiah to rescue them from
political oppression, and they eagerly welcomed Jesus in anticipation of that rescue. They were
quick to turn on Him when the freedom they were promised was slow in coming.
Another translation for the word hosanna from Hebrew is “grant us salvation”. This is
interesting in two ways. First, the Jews would have been looking to Jesus as the Messiah to grant
them that political freedom. Second, we acknowledge that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross granted us
salvation. Through Jesus’ crucifixion, we can experience God’s mercy. Jesus, through His
suffering, purchased for us the reward of Heaven.
When we reflect on the suffering of Christ, we can’t
help but see how much He loves us. He was willing to
bear unspeakable pain so that we have the
opportunity to spend eternity with Him in Heaven. We
should keep that in mind as we walk with Him toward
Calvary this Holy Week.
WELCOME TO SAINT MARY PARISH
We extend a warm welcome to new parishioners. We also welcome back those who have been away for a while. Our parish family is nourished by your presence.
We hope you feel at home here, and want to make Saint Mary Church YOUR parish. Please introduce yourself to Father Shawn after one of the Masses.
May God bless and renew the Parish of Saint Mary!
