Because of the rapid spread of COVID-19 and the need to protect the most vulnerable members of our community, the Church will remained locked and is no longer open for quiet prayer until further notice. In these times of uncertainty, we still need a quiet place to pray and be still. Please find a corner in your home where you can set up a prayer table with your bible and cross. “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in
the midst of them.” - Matthew 18:20

By the direction of Archbishop José Gomez, the parish office will be closed to all visitors. Your parish staff will continue to work and serve you
by phone, email, and website.
Take care of each other and continue to pray for the healing of the coronavirus. May God bless you and keep you safe.
Beware! Church Text Message Scam Cyber scammers, who are targeting Catholic parishes and schools in this archdiocese and throughout the nation, are victimizing parishioners and parents. Perpetrators may impersonate someone you know that is in some position of authority (a priest, teacher, manager, police or government agency).
Have you received a suspicious text or email from Fr. Michael requesting that you purchase gift cards on his behalf or loan him money? If you have—or do receive either or both in the future—these DID NOT come from him.
Do not become a victim. If you receive such texts do the following: • Take time to consider your actions before responding to suspicious text messages. • If in doubt, call the Parish Office at St. Bartholomew to authenticate the text
message. • Do not respond to the text message if you doubt its origin.

Praying Together...As We Are Apart
Continuing to Support the Church Now—more than ever—St. Bartholomew needs to receive your weekly offertory donations. We need to support our staff who are continuing to be of service to the families of this parish. While we have eliminated non-essential expenses, we still need to pay for utilities, property insurance and taxes, and outside services. Parishioners who receive offertory envelopes can mail them or drop them in the mailbox at the Rectory. Or, perhaps this is a good time to switch to supporting the church through online banking. Simply add St. Bartholomew as you would any other organization or business. Please use our mailing address: 252 Granada Avenue, Long Beach 90803.
The current public health pandemic continues to bring changes to our lives that challenge us to our very core. Lent 2020 has been a season of fasting like none other. We have fasted from our faith community. Fasted from Mass and reception of the Eucharist. And now, we will fast from the liturgies of Holy Week, of the Sacred Paschal Triduum. The decisions made by the Archdiocese regarding the liturgical life of its parishes have been made with prayer, faith, and in observance of policies established by our civil authorities ensuring the good of all people.
St. Bartholomew will continue to livestream Mass on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday at 9:30 am. Although not an official part of the liturgies Holy Week, the Chrism Mass in this Archdiocese is celebrated on the Monday of Holy Week, April 6. This year, Archbishop José Gomez will celebrate this Mass privately via livestream from the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. The liturgies of the Sacred Paschal Triduum (Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper, Friday of the Lord’s Passion and Adoration of the Cross, and Easter Vigil in the Holy Night) will be modified and livestreamed from the Cathedral. The Easter Vigil will occur without baptisms of the elect, reception of candidates for full communion, or the Rite of Confirmation. Witnessing the reception of these sacraments will bring spiritual renewal for all, when they are celebrated at a later date with great joy and thanksgiving for our safe deliverance from the coronavirus.
Parish Life
Sacrament of Penance & Reconciliation
In keeping with the Archdiocese’s revised liturgical guidelines, all parishes have been asked to suspend their regular or specially scheduled confession times unless an individual penitent is in danger of death. Confessions may not be done by phone, electronically, or “drive up.”
Receiving the Bulletin at Home Each week, we will continue to publish a condensed version of the Sunday bulletin. Copies can be down-loaded from the parish website (www.stbartholomewcclb.org) or emailed to your Inbox. To sign up individually to receive your bulletin electronically, go to the following link: www.oneparish.com/covid-19 or text ‘BULLETIN’ to 94090.
In these challenging times when our hearts and minds are filled with fear and anxiety, we need to remain strong in our faith. We need to pray for the world, for others and the sick of our parish, and that we will continue to trust in God’s love for us. To lead us in options for prayer, a new page “Praying Together,” has been added to the parish website. On this webpage you will find reflection aids, online resources for prayer, ways to celebrate Holy Week at home, a reflection journal, a scriptural Rosary for the Sorrowful Mysteries, as well as daily Lectionary readings, daily Mass with Bishop Robert Barron (on the Home Page), and other spiritual materials.
If you find it hard to pray, don’t give up. Be still; make space for God to come in; let Him look at you, and He will fill you with His peace. - Pope Francis @ Pontifex
