PALM SUNDAY

Today we celebrate Passion Sunday, better known as Palm Sunday, and enter into the mystery of the

Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us place ourselves in the crowd with Jesus, the apostles, the holy

women and the Blessed Virgin Mary. As we see Jesus making a new covenant with us in his Precious

Blood, let us look for ways we may make a return to the Lord for all the blessings and mercy bestowed

upon us . Can we be the Simon of Cyrene to help carry someone else’s burden? Could we be a Veronica

and wipe away the tears of someone else’s sorrow? Would we deny or betray Our Lord with our sins?

Might we weep tears of contrition like St. Peter? Could we stand at the foot of the cross like the Virgin

Mary, St. John and St. Mary Magdalene? Let us lift our palms and renew our covenant with the Lord

on this Passion Sunday.

HOLY WEEK & EASTER

As we enter spiritually into the death and resurrection of Our Lord

Jesus Christ during this Holy Week, I invite you to join us in particular for

the Sacred Triduum of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter.

The Adoration Chapel will be closed from 7:00 p.m. Holy Thursday

when we begin the Mass of the Last Supper until after the Easter Vigil is completed, Holy Saturday night,

around 10:30 p.m. The 7:00 p.m. Holy Thursday Mass will be followed by the procession in Church to the Day Chapel,

where adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place until midnight. The Good Friday services are scheduled for

3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Remember, too, that Good Friday is a day of both fast and abstinence. The Easter Vigil, the

most glorious liturgy of the year, begins Holy Saturday night at 8:00 p.m., when we light the Easter fire and welcome the

Risen Lord into the Church, along with our new Catholics, being baptized and confirmed. We will have the regular Sun-

day schedule on Easter morning, but there will be no 5:30 evening Mass. Note that while Good Friday

and Holy Saturday fall on the first Friday and the first Saturday of April, the devotions are cancelled in

respect for the rites of the Sacred Triduum.

Come and rejoice in the Risen Lord this Easter and bring a friend to sing alleluias to the Lord!

GOOD FRIDAY HOLY LAND COLLECTION

Christians around the world are united in a special way during Lent, Holy Week and

Easter. Our hearts, minds and prayers are also especially aware of the Church in the

Holy Land. All parishes, once a year on Good Friday, are called to support Christians

in the Holy Land, many of whom depend on the collection for their very lives. As a pontifical collection, the

Good Friday Collection offers a direct link for parishioners to be witnesses of peace and to help protect the Holy Places.

When you donate on Good Friday you help the Franciscans and others house and feed the poor, provide religious

formation and education, maintain the shrines and parishes, and conduct pastoral ministry. As the Lord is generous to us

with the graces of the season, let us return that blessing by our own generous gift for the Holy Land during Holy Week

PARISH APP IS COMING

Coming this Easter–an App for the parish. Get connected to this tool we have developed for you. All you will

need to do is download the app and at the touch of a button you will have access to upcoming events and

information about the Mass schedule, sacramental questions, financial giving and to the many ministries at the

parish. Just as you are connected with your family and friends, I invite you to get connected with your family of

faith. Tell everyone that the Annunciation Church App is coming soon!

CRS Rice Bowl Lenten Program The theme this Holy Week is “Hungering for Seeds of

Home”. We follow Jesus this week on our Lenten journey as he enters into Jerusalem, a community He knew well. The Catholic Relief Services asks us, too, to prayerfully enter into our own communities, to find those who are hungry and thirsty, who need our help. How does our Lenten journey motivate us to serve those we encounter in our daily lives? This Palm Sunday weekend, please put your Rice Bowl donation check in the collection baskets, or take them to the parish office during this week. God bless your sacrificial offering this Lenten

season.

Divine Mercy Cenacle “What is a cenacle?” The idea contained in the word “cenacle” is

derived from the meeting of our Lord’s followers in the upper room where He celebrated the Last Supper. The Latin word for supper is “cena”. It was in the upper room that Jesus instituted the Eucharist and washed the apostles’ feet. It was there that the Holy Spirit descended on the Blessed Mother and the apostles on Pentecost. Divine Mercy members meet in small groups. The goals are to delve deeper into the writings of St. Faustina and learn more about the Eucharist and the message of mercy. Come to the Feast of Divine Mercy on April 12, the Sunday after Easter. Please read the invitation in the bulletin insert this weekend. Come with

your family and friends! Let us celebrate God’s mercy and compassion.

Retreat for Seniors. Canossian Sister Liz Chambers will facilitate “An Affair to Remember”, on

Wednesday, April 22, at 9:30AM-1:30PM, including lunch, in the Canossian Spirituality Center. This Spring time retreat will offer us the opportunity to look at the paradox and mystery of our life.

Call the Center at 452-9402 to register.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) This Holy Week marks the immediate preparation of the Elect and Candidates to receive the sacraments of Christian Initiation during the Easter Vigil Mass. Please continue to pray for them, their godparents and sponsors, their families, and the RCIA team, who are journeying with them in faith.

Thank you.

Reflection: “A merciful heart does not mean a weak heart. Anyone who wishes to be merciful must have

a strong and steadfast heart, closed to the tempter but open to God. A heart which lets itself be pierced

by the Spirit so as to bring love along the roads that lead to our brothers and sisters. And, ultimately, a

poor heart, one which realizes its own poverty and gives itself freely for others…In this way we will

receive a heart which is firm and merci ful, attentive and generous, a heart which is not closed,

indifferent or prey to the globalization of indifference. It is my prayerful hope that this Lent will prove

spiritually fruitful for each believer and every ecclesial community. I ask all of you to pray for me.

May the Lord bless you and our Lady keep you.” -Pope Francis in his Lenten Message 2015

As our World Youth Day Pilgrims officially begin their spiritual preparation the WYD experience in Poland next year, we are turning to the wisdom of the Saints to help us.

St Maria Faustina Kowalska was named by Jesus “My Secretary of Divine Mercy”. It is through this illiterate nun the Lord made known to us His Mercy. We will highlight differ-ent aspects of the Divine Mercy in a weekly

column on the Annunciation YYA website.
