Palm Beach State college’s theatre department will be presenting “harvey,” a 1944 play by american playwright mary chase. When elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend harvey, a six and a one-half foot rabbit, to guests at a dinner party, his sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare their family from future embarrassment. When they arrive at the sanitarium, a comedy of errors ensues. Professor Stephen gibson will give a reading of his poetry as part of the Belle glade library and learning Resource center’s celebration of Poetry month. mr. PBSc Panthers medics clubPanther Prowl 2012
It was the best of nights for Palm Beach State college, as students and faculty joined together for a night of food, dancing, games, and fun on February 25th at the hilton hotel by the airport. this was Palm Beach State’s 11th Annual Celebration dance, with over 200 students, faculty, and administrators in attendance. Between “minute to Rock,” (a.k.a. minute to Win It), “making the Band,” and a guitar hero tournament, our students were given a chance to show off their talent and rock the house!
On January 18-20, 2012, the Palm Beach State college Panther medics club traveled to Daytona to attend the annual Fire chiefs convention Fire-east. the students were the actors in the medical based scenario competitions among the Fire Departments in preparation for the upcoming advanced life Support competition season. the experience provided students a priceless insight into what it takes to be a winning team. this year’s club has some pretty big shoes to fill because last year’s Palm Beach State team won five competitions. they will be competing at the University of miami, miami Dade college, city college, clin-con and the Boca challenge. Jumpstart Jump Rope club
Jumpstart Jump Rope club is in its second year at Palm Beach State. they recently performed at Palm Beach central high School for the take Stock in children graduation ceremony, and at the Royal Palm Beach music and art Festival on march 11th. the pictures are from the festival, and, as luck would have it, the rain started just as they were getting ready to perform.the rain got heavier as the team got into the performance, and

subsided just as they finished. a little rain didn’t dampen their spirits, though, and the audience who stuck it out with them were treated to a wonderful show.
Jumpstart has also performed at the half-time show of some basketball games as well as at church festivals in Palm Springs and Wellington.

February 26th – March 3rd was National eating Disorders Week. this year’s theme was “everybody Knows Somebody.” two panel presentations were provided to bring awareness to the topic of eating Disorders. on tuesday, march 28th, Professor of Health and Nutrition Jeanne Boone was joined by career advisor april Rosenblatt and Counseling Intern Naomi Feigenbaum. april’s presentation covered
body image while Naomi’s story told of her personal journey through recovery.the presentation concluded with Professor Boone leading a discussion on the cultural and physiological links among food choices, dieting and eating disorders. on Wednesday, February 29th, a similar presentation was held on the lake Worth campus. this presentation included Johanna S. Kandel, Founder and ceo of the Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness and author of Life Beyond Your Eating Disorder (harlequin Press). Johanna shared her inspiring story of recovery from her eating disorder and how she decided to establish a non-profit organization to help others.

27. Panther men and women bow out of state tournament in semi-finals
Palm Beach basketball teams both enjoyed historic seasons as they completed their run to the State finals by bowing out in the semi finals. the Panther women lost to the eventual champs, Pensacola, and the men were ousted in a tough battle by the college of central Florida. For the first time in the history of the school, both teams received the #1 seeds out of the Southern conference by winning the conference championship. For the men, it was their 2nd title in as many years under head coach george “Butch “ estes. For the women, it was their 1st title under head coach Kris Ruffo.

In addition, me me Ward and Waverly austin were named Players of the Year in the Southern conference, and austin was named Player of the Year in the State of Florida. Ward, austin and Janay Borum were members of the FcSaa all State team and are likely candidates for NJCAA All American status, which will be named later in the spring. also, coach Ruffo and estes won Southern conference coach of the Year, which is their second such award. the women ended their season with a school record of 25 wins and 2 losses, were 10-0 in the Southern Conference and ranked #15 in the country. The men finished their stellar year with a 26-5 record, which included 10-1 in the conference and a #12 national ranking.

28. 29. the Intramurals Running club Day of engagement
the Intramurals Running club of the lake Worth campus participated in the 9th Annual 5K/10K Race for Faith on Saturday, February 25th at John Prince Park in lake Worth. this Race has given over $60,000 back to the community and is making an impact in well-deserving countries. honorable mention goes to Joe Rojas, Victor Felix, Jordan medina, alencia Felix, Swikar Patel, and melanie carucci for placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in their age group. the Intramurals Running club welcomes students, staff, faculty and administration to join them on the soccer field on Tuesdays at 4:30pm and Fridays at 8:00am. The next race is The Superhero Scramble, which is a 4-6 miles of wicked terrain, mud, 20+ obstacles, and water crossings, which takes place on March 24th, 2012 in Miami, FL.
Student volunteers from lake Worth campus participated in a “Day of engagement” on January 26th at the milagro center in Delray Beach. the milagro center is a non-profit organization that provides educational and art programs to disadvantaged children. the center’s four goals are to ensure academic success, promote the arts, teach inclusion and embrace diversity, and create strong individuals who positively impact their communities. the student volunteers assisted the children with performing an impromptu play, playing kickball, games and story telling. Volunteer myrlene armand said, “Volunteering at milagro has been an incredible experience. the kids have so much spirit and energy and just spending a few hours with them has made a tremendous impact on me. I was exhausted by the end of the day, but I was much fulfilled.”
