Library shows support of local youth with newly decorated teen space
Collingwood, ON. October 8, 2013 – Collingwood Public Library’s teen space has
undergone a huge makeover these past few weeks. With new furniture and a fresh
layout, this dedicated hangout for teens is now even more welcoming.
Referred to as The Nook, the space features a young adult collection of books,
magazines and graphic novels, computer stations, relaxing furniture, a study area,
board games and dedicated staff.
“It’s exciting to have an updated teen space. Having a dedicated space in the Library is
absolutely essential to our ability to effectively engage teenagers. Keeping up with the
needs of teens in this way helps to show that teens are a priority in our service delivery,”
says Jocelyn Knoester, teen services assistant at the Library.
Teens and parents are invited to the official reveal on Thursday, October 17, 2013
at 7:00 p.m. at Collingwood Public Library.
Attendees can take a peek at the exciting new furniture and layout while enjoying live
music by teen musicians, a teen art exhibit and delicious refreshments. They will also
have the opportunity to hear more about programmes the Library offers and speak with
representatives from other youth centred organizations in the community.
“We hope the new furniture and features will encourage teens to spend more time here,
leading to increased connections amongst themselves, Library staff and our
programming opportunities,” says Knoester.
Providing a separate space for teens, such as The Nook, is a growing trend among
public libraries. Collingwood Public Library is proud to be showing commitment to its
local youth.
The Collingwood Public Library is committed to guiding our community in the pursuit of
information, the wonder of lifelong learning, and the enrichment of social and cultural
experiences. At the heart of the community, the Collingwood Public Library is an inclusive
environment seeking universal accessibility.
