Respected Sir/Madam,

My name is Saurabh Pal, M.Sc. in geology from IIT Kharagpur. I am a geologist in Geological Survey of India. But as a hobby I want to start making paleoart and possibly other scientific illustration for part time.

My skill in art and my interest and knowledge in geology make me think to start an entrepreneurship in the field of paleoart and making scientific illustration.

We can explain anything better with the help of diagrams, illustrations and flow chart as they don’t require any language to understand them moreover these illustration and diagrams convey more message as compare to writing. That’s why it is very important to include diagrams and illustration in research papers and books.

Sir/Madam, if you are interested to include diagrams, illustrations in any of your paper and/or book please gives me opportunity to help you for the same.

In this write up I am including few examples of my art work, hope you would like to go through them.

Sample 1 : a sketch of an Indian dinosaurs called, Rajasaurus narmadensis, by saurabh Pal

Rajasaurus, was described by J. A. Wilson and it is one of the best known dinosaur find from the India. Skeletal parts that recovered from the Lameta Formation include braincase, dorsal and caudal vertebrae, sacrum, thigh bone, upper arm, shin bones, and many other parts. This lead to the paleontologists to conclude that this dinosaur is very much closely related to Majungasaurus of Medagascar and belong to the family Abelisauridae.

As complete skull never found for this animal so during reconstruction I have to take idea of complete skull by observing it’s closest relative Majungasaurus. I took 14 days to complete my art work.

Sample 2: A recently discovered unnamed dinosaur (titanosaur) from Patagonia, the largest of all

In 2014 Diego Pol and his team discovered many large size bones from Patagonia region of Argentina and what they discovered is the largest dinosaur ever to known, even larger than previous record holder the Argentinosaurus. It is estimated to be 40m in length and height around 20 m and guess what, it is a specimen of a subadult and still growing! This dinosaur belongs to the family titanosauridae. This family titanosauridae is after a genus name Titanosaur and this genus Titanosaur was first discovered from India (Lydekker, 1877). So it is very proud for Indians that a very important family of dinosaur is named after a specimen discovered in India. Let me tell you more about this dinosaur which is in my art. The paper describing this dinosaur is not published yet and that is why we don’t know the name for now. So the question arises how can I make art of this dinosaur? Well because of it’s size this titanosaur is now become very famous and a documentary is also there “Attenborough And The Giant Dinosaur”.

Moreover the replica of the like size skeleton of this dinosaur is in America Museum of Natural History, New York.

Few more links that you may like to view to know about the largest animal ever to lived:

Sample 3 : Utahraptor, the largest dinosaur of the family Dromaeosauridae.

This raptor was of 7m in length and had really big claws (characteristic of dromaeosauridae). It took me 4 days to make this art work.

Few more art work by me :-

Drawing Specimens :

Most of the time we need to represent many of samples and specimens as line drawings (diagram) and we want to focus on special features of the sample and we need particular details to be highlighted to make others to understand the subject.

For this we need accurate drawing of the sample with scale. This kind of drawing can be done either by hand or by computer but hand drawing of specimen do not bring much accuracy as compare to line drawing in computer. Hand drawing is best for reconstruction of animal, plant, drawing any model etc. but for samples and specimens we have to prefer computer for better scale accuracy.

I do work in Corel draw to make scaled images of specimens and samples. For example I discovered a fragmented dinosaur bone from Lameta formation and I have to draw its line diagram to make it more clear but I also have to assure the scale and proportion of the sample as I want accuracy while describing the sample.

Please have a look over the dinosaur bone I discovered and my line drawing of the same specimen in Corel draw below:

Thank You!
