    Sandy, a Grass Valleycontemporary animal portraitartist, has a unique style betweenimpressionism andexpressionism. As time went on,about 8 years ago her creativeart specializing in animals wasborn. She now creates withpassion, animals in a colorful,expressionistic manner, catchingthe feeling of cats, dogs, horsesand other subjects in herpaintings. Using pastels andacrylics, Sandy enjoys seeingthem come alive on canvas or

    board. Her goal is to catch an "impression" of the animals andscenes that she paints.

    Since childhood, Sandy has always drawn and painted cats, dogsand farm animals. She now regularly creates forever paintings ofanimals and pets in art. Her art can also be found at Auburn OldTown Gallery (Auburn). Sandy is now a signature member at theSierra Pastel Society. She's thrilled to be able to createforeverpaintings from pictures.

    Featured Artist - Michael Volpi

    Michael Volpi was a letter carrier for the postal service in the BayArea for 25 years. Two years later he transferred to Rosevilleand moved to Applegate. Patricia Abraham started teachingwatercolor classes on his mail route. Michael has been takingclasses off and on from Patricia as well as Sonja Hamilton eversince.

    PAL News and Events Placer Artists League is sponsoring a SketchCrawl on February 11thin Old Town Auburn . The event is open to all artists, member andnonmember alike. You may ask 'What is a SketchCrawl?' ASketchCrawl is an event where artists of all genres get together todraw, sketch or paint in a specific area, then meet up to show whatthey've created. All you need to participate is something to draw withand something to draw on. You can see the official Urban Sketchers

    We will meet up at 10:30 AM in front of Auburn Old Town Gallery, 218 Washington Street. We'll sit down for lunch about 12:30-1:00 PM, somewhere in Old Town.Since this is pretty much an outdoor event, if it's raining on February 11th, we will hold theSketchCrawl on February 18th, the Saturday following. If you think you might want toparticipate, please contact Carol Grismore at [email protected]. Last-minuteattendance is also welcome!

    The PAL Membership Show will be held at the new PlacerArts gallery at the 910 LincolnWay location. We are excited to be able to have our show at this location. This is anopportunity for all our members to be able to display their artwork (2D and 3D iswelcome). Please bring your artwork on Monday, April 3 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. If we

  • have an overwhelming number of pieces, we may need to limit one piece of artwork permember. All artwork must be original and ready to hang (no saw tooth hangers). Be sureto label your artwork with artist's name and title. The show will be on display through April27. Take down will be Friday, April 28 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.     Save the Date for the 2017 PAL Open Juried Show - This year we have scheduled ourOpen Juried Show to take place May 26 through June 12 at the General Gomez Gallery. We plan to have submissions done online. Frank Ordaz will be our juror. We will needvolunteers to help us out.

    ART STUDIO TREK (Art and Chocolate) - Several fellow PAL members will beparticipating in this show. The 21 artists group of the Art Studio Trek will have a previewshow of their art presented at the Harris Center at Folsom Lake College until March 12,2017. This show will highlight the future open studio event of Roseville, Rocklin andGranite Bay on April 25-26 from 10 am to 5 pm each day. Free maps are available at theHarris Center or can be downloaded at www.ArtStudioTrek.com.

    Classes and Education  

    Jim Lee - Open enrollment for classes in the first quarter of 2017. This is a first-come,first-serve invitation. Tuition is $250 ($100 is non-refundable, the balance becomesnon-refundable two weeks prior to class). Classes are limited to 10 students. Eachclass is 20-hours (spread over three sessions) of hands-on instruction of sculpting thehuman form in water-base clay. This includes lectures in bond structure, anatomy,emotion and gesture.     Exhibits and other information

    The Crocker-Kingsley Exhibition, held by the Blue Line Art Gallery. This show wasfirst juried in 1940, a tradition that continues to the present day. 2017 marks the 78thshow and will be exhibited at Blue Line Arts Gallery. Past exhibitors have included manypremier names in American and California art, including Robert Arneson, Kathryn UhlBall, Elmer Bischoff, Fred Dalkey, David Gilhooly, Ralph Goings, Gregory Kondos,Roland Petersen, Mel Ramos, Ruth Rippon, Fritz Scholder, and Wayne Thiebaud. Thisyear's exhibition will include 60 works of art, all of which will be exhibited at Blue LineArts in Roseville. The exhibit is on display until February 25th, 2017.     Calls Elk Grove Fine Arts Center's 5th Annual Open Fine Arts Competition to be heldon March 4th, 2017. Entries close on February 4th, 2017. The juror is D. OldhamNeath, Art Curator for the annual public television station KVIE's Art Auction, and ownerof Archival Framing and Gallery in Sacramento.
