Communication and Marketing InternAdvisors:

Brenda Hough and Jessa Turner

Why did I do this internship?

How did I find out about

it?

This internship would give me experience in the workforce while teaching me about communication and marketing within a large organization.

Leadership Minor 50 hour internship requirement.

My Communication classmate, Jayme, had finished her internship at the Tech Park and recommended it to me.

I was then in contact with Brenda, discussing internship and possible interviewing.

Master Editorial Calendar

The main task for my internship was to develop an editorial content calendar that connects staff with future events and duties that correspond

with those upcoming dates.

The goal of the calendar is:

● To provide information about future opportunities for Tech Parks Arizona to plan and market in advance towards the target audience.

● To give staff a comprehensive view on the content that is planned and allow them to insert their information for others to coordinate strategies and give assistance.

● To look back on this information for future marketing references and due dates.

Suggestions Challenges

• Direct Outreach - We need all staff to send in personal contacts and email updates in order to further our outreach

• Utilize Interactive Calendar - Find platform (Google Docs, Share Points), give input, engage in postings

• Interviews - More one-on-one news briefings to discuss current happenings within the Tech Park

• Instagram

• TREND Report - Writing about new topics with an important purpose

• Event Submission Forms - Manually submitting upcoming events onto news websites is time consuming, but very important

• Developing Editorial Calendar –

Content:Deciding what is most important and which outlets we should use to promote event (Internal vs. External)

Set up:What platform to use (Google Docs, Excel)Matrix with channels

Communication, Meetings, Networking

I was able to meet and greet with various staff members and other interns at a luncheon at The Good Egg. We had a wonderful time telling each other about our duties at the Tech Park and our personal backgrounds.

I meet with Jessa each Monday to discuss projects and duties for my internship and assist her with anything she asks of me.

Brenda also discusses internship duties with me and plans our intern meetings.

I was able to meet with Bruce Wright, who looked over the progress of the Editorial Calendar and made suggestions.

I have built relationships within the office and believe it will benefit my future!

What Does the Future Hold?

I am hoping to use the skills I have learned as an intern to apply communication and marketing strategies to any company I

work for.

My aspirations and career ideas are open and broad. My interests include becoming a sales or marketing

representative, real estate agent, or director in the hospitality industry.
