EVERY OFFICE NEEDS SOUND MASKING

The importance of good acoustics is critical and industry research concludes that over 99% of all corporate offices can benefit from sound masking.

Office noise is a common complaint and noise from overheard speech is a top concern. Lower panel heights, smaller worksta-tion sizes, higher population densities and the trend to move people out of private offices into the open plan all add to an increase in noise levels and creates the need for sound mask-ing. In addition, widespread use of cell phones, speaker phones, teaming environments and shared spaces all contribute to higher noise levels - creating more distractions, increasing stress and limiting productivity.

Everyone in your office needs some level of speech privacy and every employer wants to provide the most productive and optimal work environment. Sound Masking gives you the ability to provide your employees with speech privacy while creating a more comfortable and efficient workplace.

Return on investment models show that being attentive to acoustics pays off through increased productivity. Industry case studies have documented improvements ranging from 3-20%. Using even a modest 3% increase, your sound masking invest-ment can pay for itself in well under a year.

DESIGNING FOR PRIVACY AND COMFORTSo much goes into the design of your facility. There are construction considerations for walls and ceilings and design choices for carpeting, seating, furniture and workstations. But also of importance are the “intangibles” within the space - critical things that impact our comfort and the way we work. Things such as lighting, air quality, HVAC and acoustics. As part of your overall design, acoustics and sound masking play an important role.

Sound masking works by creating a pleasant, ambient sound that is introduced into the office environment to gently raise background sound levels so that noise from overheard speech becomes less intelligible. A quality sound masking system allows employees to focus on their jobs with less distractions. Lencore’s Spectra® System accomplishes this and more. The system provides acoustical comfort, speech privacy and creates an environment that supports both concentrationand communication.

Our numerous industry awards and testimonials from For-tune 500 companies around the world continue to support Lencore’s position as the leader in sound masking solutions designed for privacy and comfort.

CHOOSING A MASKING SYSTEMAll sound masking systems are not created equal. This makes an apples to apples comparison difficult if you don’t first understand the evaluation criteria by which to compare and choose a system. To be successful your sound masking system must provide speech privacy and comfort. If it fails to do both, it will not work properly.

Standards for speech privacy exist and it is important that your sound masking system meets these standards while consistently maintaining comfort. Lencore’s Spectra® System does this effortlessly and meets ASTM E-1130 standards for speech privacy while providing appropriate levels of acoustical comfort for your facility.

With regard to comfort, it is important to consider the sound that the masking system creates and the sound you will hear in your actual space. Remember, you are buying sound. Make sure to listen to it.

Finally, when choosing a sound masking system, look for choices, flexibility and proven performance. Lencore provides you with multiple system and speaker options to best custom-ize your system to meet the needs of your space. And with an impressive list of satisfied clients, years of experience and a 10-year full warranty, you can always be confident when choosing Lencore.

HOW SOUND MASKING WORKSSound masking works by producing a unique, digital broad band sound spectrum, complimentary to the speech spectrum, that effectively covers speech levels. Lencore’s Spectra® sound is called E-Sound®. This scientifically engineered sound is amplified through individual speakers installed above or in the ceiling throughout the environment creating a uniform field of sound that ensures temporal and spatial uniformity. The sound masking system “fills” the plenum and filters down into the space below, without phasing, to gently raise the background sound level. This rise in the sound levels covers or “masks” un-wanted office noise. This makes speech less intelligible, creates speech privacy, and results in office environments that are truly comfortable to work in.

SOUND MASKING APPLICATIONSThe Spectra® System is used in office, healthcare, financial, government, legal, religious, military and call center environ-ments. Lencore’s Sound Masking Systems are custom de-signed to fit a variety of site conditions and applications and are used in open and closed plan offices with or without ceiling tiles. The system is applicable for new construction, retrofits, and designed to meet all local codes. Spectra® can also pro-vide a quality paging and music system with system capabilities that include all call and zone paging as well as an additional life-safety system.

FEATURESThe award winning Spectra® System meets ASTM (E-1130) standards for speech privacy, is UL Listed for use in the ple-num, energy-efficient, and low voltage. The system is simple to install, tune and use. The system’s tuning capabilities include +/- 1/2 dB tolerance adjustments, independent central and remote volume controls and an optional 24/7 Programmable Timer. The Spectra® System requires no on-going maintenance and its life expectancy is over 20 years.

The Spectra® System is tuned using an advanced software program called SPEC™ (Sound and Privacy Evaluation Crite-ria). The software is used as a sound masking tool for ensur-ing speech privacy and acoustical comfort levels for new and existing facilities. The software takes data input and provides predictive and analytical reporting for the performance of the masking system.

Lencore supports “green” office design and its products are manufactured in the U.S.A. with high levels of recycled content and within strict environmental guidelines. In addition, as part of your overall LEED efforts, sound masking can contribute towards achieving credits in healthcare, new construction and commercial interiors.

Sound masking is installed throughout the office space in open areas, conference rooms and private offices to provide speech privacy and comfort. Units can be customized to suit a variety of construction and site conditions.

SPECIFICATIONS

Each Lencore Spectra® Main Sound Masking unit consists of: - An individual, non-coherent, pseudo-random masking sound generator (CMOS programmed micro controller circuit) - Audio amplifiers capable of outputting to two additional secondary sound masking units - Loudspeaker - Masking volume and contour controls - A separate paging volume control

Each main unit also consists of an AC to DC power supply, pow-ered by a 16-18 VAC transformer. Additional central volume controls and central programmable timer options including acclimation features are also available.

ACOUSTICAL ANALYSIS AND DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS

The Lencore Sound and Privacy Evaluation and Criteria (SPEC™) program serves as a diagnostic and planning tool for sound masking and paging systems. The computer program is able to qualify and analyze the acoustical performance of your space before and after incorporating sound masking. The soft-ware enables a fact-based approach to analyzing and predicting spatial and temporal uniformity of sound for sound masking. It predicts the improvement of privacy levels in a space both before and after the proposed masking system is installed. This program can document speech privacy levels for corporate office spaces. It can also help document safeguards undertaken at healthcare facilities and financial institutions as they look to meet federal mandates for oral privacy.

Incorporating sound masking is the right decision. In an age where facility managers and design professionals are being asked to show how they can contribute to the bottom line, installing Lencore Sound Masking is one of the easiest and most cost effective decisions you can make to ensure that your office provides speech privacy and comfort.
