Acceflting the challenge of a carnival barker to joust with his hairy grappler, Pfc. James W. Hadley, Lawrence, Mass., and Sgt. Francisf. Monti, Upper Darby,Pa., lifeguards at the Parris Island pool, entered the beast's cage with the howlihg approval of an enthusiastic Crowd. Each wore a football helmet.

After as hour of spirited action the gladiators had pinned the gorilla twice for the decision...

Sgt. ronti declared, "We - beat him something fierce about the 7head and shoulders. He was tough." Pfc. Hadley agreed, by saying, "It was a tough scrap, but we won."

Jaime Annexy - Farjdo, Camp Pendleton, will participate in the hammer throw event. rcHugh played with national champions teams in 1949, and Annexy-Fardjo set a new mark in the Central American Oly- mpic Games in 1950 while playing for the University of Penn.

Besides track, competing Woo ions will enter teams in water p- olo, boxing, wrestling, horseman - ship,basketball, swimming, boating and rifle and pistol shooting.

For the first time, Russian and American athletes will meet. The Reds are entered officially, but it doesn't mean they will show up- -unless they can be certain they will excell. Moscow has claimed many world records, but they've never been witnessed by outsiders. Except for the 1950 European cham- pionships, no Russion has competed in track outside his homeland.

MAINTENANCE ALLMANCES Vali BE CUT; CLCTH ING PRICES ARE SLASHED

According to a recent Marine Corps memorandum effective July 1, basic maintenance allowances will drop from $5.40 to $4.20 per month for all enlisted men

and women. Similar allowance cuts will be made for all services.

With the allowance slash will be a 15 per cent decline in clo- thing sales prices. Formal De- fense department approval is ex- pected shortly and the services have already begun publishing new
