Mr. and Mrs, Ted Cleaveland and Mrs. Henry Heick were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Pflug Tuesday evening. Egrets Visit Lake Katrine Great white birds are visiting the' Catskills. They have been Seen at various lakes and ponds in this section. The following from the Kingston Freeman is interesting: "Among visitors to Ulsteif coun- ty this summer are several snow- white American egrets apparenj;ly enjoying their stay on the farm of Pratt Boice at Lake Katrine, according "to a letter received to- day by the Freeman from the Rev. Harold Pickett, who lives near the farm, "The egret, also known as the Great White Heron, is a rare sight in this region of the nation, the minister said. The letter follows: Dear Sir: "As you come northerly on Boice Lane from the Kingston- Ulster airport onto Neighborhood road, leading to the Lake Katrine station, look immediately to the left toward Esopus creek, and you will sea on the north bank of Pratl Boice's old Binnekill, a large dead tree. Perched upon it and flying round about it, Mrs. Steve (Mabel) Sahler has counted at one time and showed to us as many as 12 snow-white American egrets dur- ing this month of July, 1948. "These rare and beautiful repre- sentatives of 'casmerodius alba egretta,' stand some 41 inches in length from toe to bill. Their wing- spread is three feet or more. Some members of this rookery are as yet but half or two-thirds grown, but they are exact replicas of the parent birds, vi?:,, legs and feet black, bill yeUow, and plumage snowy white. "Thanks be, these marvels of the bird kind are completely protected at all times and everywhere by Federal law. Hereabouts they seem to be present 'on the thrive' along Esopus creek, mainly from the Lake Katrine Rod and Gun club at the end of Kingsford lane, and thence southerly, i. e„ up the Esopus, along the farms of Cope- land Gates, of the Rev. Anita Trueman Pickett, and of Pratt Boice upon whose land is located the aforesaid old dead tree. "These- American egrets (some- times named Great White Heron) may be seen closeup by bird lovers at almost any hour by driving, down to the end of the Kingsford lane. They feed in another old BinneMll at the left, in the Gates pasture, and stand or wade or fly about in plain view along the mar- gin of the creek. They manifest only slight perturbation at the near proximity of human beings. It is rare and pleasing picture to see a couple or a half dozen or more of these splendid birds at a single here, in such easy reach of all who want in this way to get nearer to Nature's living Heart. Egrets Visit Lake Katrine Great white birds are visiting

the' Catskills. They have been Seen at various lakes and ponds in this section. The following from the Kingston Freeman is interesting:

"Among visitors to Ulsteif coun-ty this summer are several snow-white American egrets apparenj;ly enjoying their stay on the farm of Pratt Boice at Lake Katrine, according "to a letter received to-day by the Freeman from the Rev. Harold Pickett, who lives near the farm,

"The egret, also known as the Great White Heron, is a rare sight in this region of the nation, the minister said. The letter follows: Dear Sir:

"As you come northerly on Boice Lane from the Kingston-Ulster airport onto Neighborhood road, leading to the Lake Katrine station, look immediately to the left toward Esopus creek, and you will sea on the north bank of Pratl Boice's old Binnekill, a large dead tree. Perched upon it and flying round about it, Mrs. Steve (Mabel) Sahler has counted at one time and showed to us as many as 12 snow-white American egrets dur-ing this month of July, 1948.

"These rare and beautiful repre-sentatives of 'casmerodius alba egretta,' stand some 41 inches in length from toe to bill. Their wing-spread is three feet or more. Some members of this rookery are as yet but half or two-thirds grown, but they are exact replicas of the parent birds, vi?:,, legs and feet black, bill yeUow, and plumage snowy white.

"Thanks be, these marvels of the bird kind are completely protected at all times and everywhere by Federal law. Hereabouts they seem to be present 'on the thrive' along Esopus creek, mainly from the Lake Katrine Rod and Gun club at the end of Kingsford lane, and thence southerly, i. e„ up the Esopus, along the farms of Cope-land Gates, of the Rev. Anita Trueman Pickett, and of Pratt Boice upon whose land is located the aforesaid old dead tree.

"These- American egrets (some-times named Great White Heron) may be seen closeup by bird lovers at almost any hour by driving, down to the end of the Kingsford lane. They feed in another old BinneMll at the left, in the Gates pasture, and stand or wade or fly about in plain view along the mar-gin of the creek. They manifest only slight perturbation at the near proximity of human beings. It is rare and pleasing picture to see a couple or a half dozen or more of these splendid birds at a single here, in such easy reach of all who want in this way to get nearer to Nature's living Heart.
