THAT STRANGE BUILDING VIEW FROM OTHER SIDE SOME OF 80,000 BOOKS PICK OF THE JANNEY WALLS Dazzling New Library Opens Next Door, Offers Lots of Fun and Learning for Kids by Surina Goel Do you know that strange building next door? The construction has been going on for ages it seems, working towards Who-Knows-What. Well when the rumbling and beeping stops, here’s what’s going to happen. But what’s in it for us kids? Well, there’s a room for children’s programs, and lots of space to hang out and do homework. And oh yeah: Books! Plenty of them. In fact, there are so many books, says Katie Ahearn, the children’s librarian, that “we almost didn’t have enough space for all the books!” There’s room for 80,000 books – plus comfortable seats for 200 people, six computers with Wi-Fi, two conference rooms, five cozy study rooms, vending machines, and a large room to run programs for as many as 100. The library opened Jan. 24, but there’ll be a grand opening party there on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 10 am to 4 pm. So check out the place. There’s a ton of stuff to explore!
