Long Lake Calendar Celebrate Columbus Day weekend in a cabaret style setting and revel in the dulcet jazz of the talented group, The Tony Jenkins Jazz Trip. This concert will be presented free of charge by the Town of Long Lake at the Long Lake Town Hall on October 12th at 7pm. The Tony Jenkins Jazz Trip has played Adirondack jazz circuit extensively, fans have seen them play in Glens Falls, Lake George and nearby in North Creek. The Tony Jenkins Jazz Trip last played Long Lake in 2009 and we are looking forward to their return! The band consists of Anthony Jenkins, Frank Conti, Greg Brown and Ted MacKenzie. Anthony Jenkins held his first guitar at the age of 13. It was an instant and magical connection which would result in a lifelong love of playing and writing music. A self-taught musician who grew up in Newark, NJ, in 1997 Anthony moved to Glens Falls, NY and set a goal to venture forward with his true passion, jazz, and Tony Jenkins Jazz Trip performs in Long Lake generation drummer named after his grandfather from the Highlands of Scotland. After attending Berklee College of Music, Ted became a full time drum instructor and studied in NYC with Sonny Igoe, Henry Adler and Jim Chapin. Be sure to check out this talented group of musicians on October 12 th at the Long Lake Town Hall and enjoy a selection of desserts at this cabaret style concert. Make a day of it and stop by the Long Lake Harvest Craft Fair from 10am-3pm, also at the Long Lake Town Hall or take advantage of a hike with Certified Guide Spencer Morrissey. (photo provided) The Foster Grandparent Program presented awards to its members with the greatest longevity with the program at a “sock hop” shindig held at the local K of C on High Street in Tupper Lake. Catholic Charities hosted the event which was catered by K of C staff David and Diane LeBlanc. A sock hop 1950s cake was created by Claudine Daily and went over big with the 1950s garbed boppers. Theresa Provost of Tupper Lake was presented Four members of Foster Grandparent Program presented with longevity awards Friday with a longevity plaque for 20 years of service. Paul Miller of Peru, was presented with a 10 year plaque and Janice Warner of Brushton was recognized for her 10 years of service. Joyce Vollmer of Tupper Lake was presented with a 10-year plaque award. Most of the members of the Foster Grandparent Foster Grandparents in the groove The Foster Grandparent Program of Franklin, Clinton, Essex St. Lawrence and Jefferson Counties held its annual awards banquet on Friday, September 27, hosted by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Ogdensburg. The party was held at the Knights of Columbus of Tupper Lake for the 37 foster grandparents in the program. Seen in the photo from left beginning at the front are Judy Judge, Susie Tinker, Dawne Moore, and Theresa Provost. Ashley Miller to attend SUNY Adirondack for Fall 2013 Ashley Miller of Newcomb, is among more than 900 first-time, full-time students to attend SUNY Adirondack for the Fall 2013 semester. The Adirondack Nonprofit Network will hold a special daylong event focusing on the nonprofit sector and the role it plays as a key economic engine for the region. Board members, staff and volunteers for area nonprofits are encouraged to participate! Elected officials and government employees interested in developing or strengthening strategic partnerships with nonprofits are also welcome to attend. The meeting will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 at The Wild Center in Tupper Lake. worked diligently to form his current band, The Tony Jenkins Jazz Trip. The group performs original compositions and favorite jazz standards. Frank Conti, saxophone and flute, is originally from western New York. He received music degrees from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Virginia and Fredonia State University. He was a member of the US Army Band during the Vietnam era. In 2002, he retired as band director at Johnsburg Central School. Greg Brown, bass, was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. In 1975 he studied the bass with the Jazz Mobile workshop in NYC. That same year he went on to tour with the Flamingo’s. In 1978 he toured with Dollar Brand in Europe, Africa, and Japan. In 1984 he moved to the North Country where he is currently performing with Ray Alexander at the Sagamore Hotel and the Tony Jenkins Jazz Trip. Ted MacKenzie, drums, was born in South “Philly”, PA. The Foster Grandparent Program of Franklin,Clinton, Essex St. Lawrence and JeffersonCounties held its annual awards banquet onFriday, September 27, hosted by CatholicCharities of the Diocese of Ogdensburg. The partywas held at the Knights of Columbus of TupperLake for the 37 foster grandparents in theprogram. Ashley Miller to attend SUNYAdirondack for Fall 2013

Ashley Miller of Newcomb, is among more than 900first-time, full-time students to attend SUNY Adirondackfor the Fall 2013 semester.

The Adirondack Nonprofit Network will hold aspecial daylong event focusing on the nonprofit sectorand the role it plays as a key economic engine for theregion.

Board members, staff and volunteers for areanonprofits are encouraged to participate! Electedofficials and government employees interested indeveloping or strengthening strategic partnerships withnonprofits are also welcome to attend.

The meeting will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 at The Wild Center in TupperLake.

Greg Brown, bass, wasborn and raised in the Bronx,NY. In 1975 he studied thebass with the Jazz Mobileworkshop in NYC. That sameyear he went on to tour withthe Flamingo’s. In 1978 hetoured with Dollar Brand inEurope, Africa, and Japan. In1984 he moved to the NorthCountry where he iscurrently performing withRay Alexander atthe Sagamore Hotel and theTony Jenkins Jazz Trip.
