Race for Hunger raised $1,280 The 2014 5K Race for Hunger fundraiser for the House of Con- cern food pantry was a great success at the Seneca Meadows Wetlands Preserve, Seneca Falls, Saturday with a total of $1,280 raised. Eighty-three runners from New York, New Jersey, Vermont and Virginia took to the trails to try and win the $100 cash prize for overall first, the $50 cash prize for second or the $25 prize for third place. Those who didn’t snag the cash still had a shot at trophies for first, second and third in each age category. Charles Collins, 22, came in first overall with a time of 17:49; Marc Edwards, 50, was second overall with a time of 18:52; and Joseph Northrup, 17, was third with a time of 19:04. Overall top females were Ailene Edwards, 13, in first place with a time of 22:56; Lorraine Selkiri, 26, was second with a time of 24:22; and Jilene Demont, 29, took third with a time of 25:38. The oldest runner was 73 and the youngest was eight. This year in- volved a Johnny-come-lately runner who just missed the start of the race. She ran from her car, spied the pack of runners already on the trails, threw her car keys and headed for the pack. She managed to catch up to them, but never knew her time because she hadn’t bothered with a race bib. Fun!
