She was born September 21,1929, in Colorado County to Will and Hen- rietta Hargrove. Pluntie attended public school and confessed Christ at an early age. She spent the majority of her life in Dallas. She was preceded in death by both parents; three sisters, Gussie Jackson, Bessie M. Coleman and Margaret Pearson; and two brothers, Leo Har- grove Sr. and Will Hargrove Jr. June 10,1998 nephews; relatives and She will long be remembered by her sister, Willie Mae Johnson and husband, William, of Abilene; a long- time mate, Mr. V. Thomas; a devoted nephew, John "Ray Charles"Axel and wife, Debrah, of Dallas; a host of lov- ing nieces; friends. Funeral services were held Satur- day, June 13, at 2 p.m. from the New Greater Smith Chapel Baptist Church in Columbus with Bro. Lonnie Cole- man, Sr. Deacon and Rev. Eugene Thomas officiating. Interment followed in City Ceme- tery, Columbus. Arrangements were under the di- rection of Ben Davis Funeral Home in Columbus. Leila Jackson April 13,1903 - June 9,1998 Leila Jackson, age 94, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 1998. She was born April 13, 1903, in Colorado County to Richard and Per- line Wickerson Brooks, the oldest of seven children. Leila accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member and choir president until her death. She was also active in the Eastern Star until her death. Henry Sr. August 26,1925 June 8,1998 DeFranze (E.D.) Henry away Monday, June 8, Epstein Sr. passed 1998. He was born August 26, 1925, the third of five children born to Eugene H. and Mamie A. Henry. Epstein professed Jesus Christ at a very early age at Elmgrove Baptist Church in Elmgrove, Texas. He at- tended E.H. Henry High School, (which was named for his father) and Prairie View A&M University. He enlisted in the Armed Forces in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1947. Upon his separation from the serv- ice, he settled in Houston where he united with the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church family. There he served as a faithful, dutiful and be- loved member until his demise. He and Nancy D. Randle were united in Holy Matrimony on January 3, 1972. She remained a loving, loyal and devoted wife for 25 years, five months and five days. His numerous work affiliations included supervisor-Rabies Control Division- City of Houston, culminat- ing with self-employment and pro- prietor and operator of Henry & Sons Tractor Works. He was preceded in death by both parents and his eldest brother, Atwell M. Henry.     Funeral services were held Satur- day, June 13, at 11 a.m. from Wright Grove Baptist Church in Altair with Rev. TJ. Cunningham officiating.

    Interment followed in William Paradise Cemetery in Vox Populi.

    Arrangements were under the di- rection of Ben Davis Funeral Home in Columbus.

    Pallbearers were John Wayne Smith, and Leroy, Charles, Finest, Gene and Joe Axel.

    Honorary pallbearers were grand- sons and great grandsons.

    Well, if anyone could figure out how to doit, it would be the daughters of this publisher. They love to argue about anything!

    I was trying to "converse" with older daughter, Amy, in Arizona while the younger one, Cathy, was looking over my shoulder making snide comments in answer to her sis- ter's snide comments. (They both come by it honestly, I must admit.)

    Sheridan Library begins Summer Reading The Sheridan Memorial Library

    began the "Furry Tails, Funny Tales" program Wednesday, June 17, from 10 to 11 a.m.

    Each child who reads 10 books will be awarded a certificate from the Texas State Library.

    The summer reading program is co-sponsored by the Texas State Li- brary and the Sheridan PTS.

    All posters, book marks, reading logs and certificates are provided by the Texas State Library.

    The summer reading program will run six weeks.

    Each Wednesday, 10-11 a.m., Kay Parham will have a bagful of reading suprises for all those attending.

    The final program will be July 22.
