Entrance Antiphon: Ps 105 (104):3-4
R. Let the hearts that seek the Lord rejoice; turn to the Lord
and his strength; constantly seek his face.
Cry out with joy to God all the earth, O sing to the glory of his
name. O render him glorious praise. Say to God: How awesome
your deeds!. R.
Because of the greatness of your strength your enemies fawn
upon you. Before you all the earth shall bow down, shall sing to
you, sing to your name!. R.
First Reading: Ex 22:20-26
A reading from the Book of Exodus
Thus says the LORD:
“You shall not molest or oppress an alien,
for you were once aliens yourselves in the land of Egypt.
You shall not wrong any widow or orphan.
If ever you wrong them and they cry out to me,
I will surely hear their cry.
My wrath will flare up, and I will kill you with the sword;
then your own wives will be widows, and your children
orphans.
“If you lend money to one of your poor neighbors among my
people,
you shall not act like an extortioner toward him
by demanding interest from him.
If you take your neighbor's cloak as a pledge,
you shall return it to him before sunset;
for this cloak of his is the only covering he has for his body.
What else has he to sleep in?
If he cries out to me, I will hear him; for I am compassionate.”
The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God
Responsorial Psalm: Ps 18L2-3, 3-4, 47, 51
R. I love you, Lord, my strength.
I love you, O LORD, my strength,
O LORD, my rock, my fortress, my deliverer. R.
My God, my rock of refuge,
my shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold!
Praised be the LORD, I exclaim,
and I am safe from my enemies. R.
The LORD lives and blessed be my rock!
Extolled be God my savior.
You who gave great victories to your king
and showed kindness to your anointed. R.
Second Reading: 1 Thes 1:5c-10
A reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the
Thessalonians
Brothers and sisters:
You know what sort of people we were among you for your sake.
And you became imitators of us and of the Lord,
receiving the word in great affliction, with joy from the Holy
Spirit,
so that you became a model for all the believers
in Macedonia and in Achaia.
For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth
not only in Macedonia and in Achaia,
but in every place your faith in God has gone forth,
so that we have no need to say anything.
For they themselves openly declare about us
what sort of reception we had among you,
and how you turned to God from idols
to serve the living and true God
and to await his Son from heaven,
whom he raised from the dead,
Jesus, who delivers us from the coming wrath.
The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God
Gospel Acclamation: Jn 14:23
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Whoever loves me will keep my word, says the Lord,
and my Father will love him and we will come to him. R.
Gospel: Mt 22:34-40
The Lord be with you. R. And with your spirit
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew
R. Glory to you, O Lord.
When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees,
they gathered together, and one of them,
a scholar of the law tested him by asking,
“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”
He said to him,
“You shall love the Lord, your God,
with all your heart,
with all your soul,
and with all your mind.
This is the greatest and the first commandment.
The second is like it:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
The whole law and the prophets depend on these two
commandments.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Sign up This Weekend For 40 Days for Life!
In this month of October, when we celebrate Respect
for Life month, you are invited to participate in 40 Days
for Life. This is a time of prayer at the Delta abortion
clinic on Colonial Drive. Every year people of faith
come to pray peacefully across the street from the
clinic. We pray for everyone going into the clinic – the
babies at risk for abortion, the mothers and fathers who
seek to end their child’s life, and all those who work at
the clinic.
Please join us on October 30 from 12:00 noon to
7:00 pm when our parish prays at the clinic. Sign-up for
40 Days for Life will take place at Sacred Heart on the
weekends of October 17-18 and 24 – 25. Please
consider whether God is calling you to join us in prayer.
Entering Canaan: Women’s Day of Prayer and
Healing. Are you or someone you know suffering the
loss of a child through abortion? You are not alone. A
Day of Prayer & Healing for women who have
experienced abortion will be held on Saturday,
November 7, 2020 from 9 am – 5 pm. For more
information and confidential registration, please call 225-

The feast of All Saints falls on a Sunday this year,
and our three weekend liturgies will be celebrated for
the feast.

special day of prayer for the souls in purgatory.
Fr. Walsh will celebrate Mass at Roselawn Cemetery
that day at 11:00 a.m., and everyone is invited!
Blessings of the Graves
St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery (1523 Main St.)
Sunday, November 1, 2020: 4:00 p.m

Sunday, November 1, 2020: 7:00 p.m.
Father Paul Counce, the pastor of St. Joseph Cathedral, will

Highland Cemetery Sunday, November 1, 2020. See times for

coverings or masks and maintain social distancing.
Please help us honor and remember
the deceased members of our community

Sunday: 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time;
Priesthood Sunday
Monday: Weekday
Tuesday: Weekday
Wednesday: Sts. Simon and Jude, Apostles: Sts.
Simon and Jude Thaddaeus, Apostles, both preached
the Gospel in Mesopotamia and Persia, and were
martyred for the faith there in about 47 A.D. We
know very little about either saint from the
scriptures, but it is believed that St. Jude was the son
of Cleophas and the woman named Mary who stood
with the Blessed Virgin at the foot of the Cross. St.
Jude is also believed to be a cousin to Jesus. He is
associated with an epistle that bears his name
thought few scholars believe he is the actual author.
St Simon was sometimes called the Zealot. We do
not know if this reflected his adherence to the Zealot
party which opposed the presence of the Romans in
Palestine or whether it was a reference to his
zealousness in following Jewish law.
Thursday: Weekday
Friday: Weekday
Saturday: All Hallow’s Eve: The word Halloween
refers to the Feast of All Saints. The word is taken
from an archaic English term, “hallows,” meaning
“holy”; and “e’en”, a truncation of the word
“evening”, in reference to the Vigil of All Saints. It’s
a day when Catholics celebrate the triumph of the
Church in heaven, and the lives of the saints on
earth. The modern focus on ghosts and goblins also
falls within Catholic tradition as they are reminders
of death and of the last things. Therefore, as we
commemorate the feast of All Saints on November
1
st
, beginning with All Hallows’ Eve, our minds
should consider those last things: death, judgment,
heaven, and hell.
Next Sunday: All Saints
SUNDAY NURSERY:
Closed until further notice.
