Term Starts for Children
Here we are already nearly half way through the school year! Children are
busy with their new term topics, we have had a member of Team GB in
school and Year 2 have been on their trip to Pizza Express - we have
some talented pizza makers amongst us and some expert pizza eaters as
well! Year 1 children have been practising for their phonics testing and
their parents have been to a workshop on how to support their children
with phonics at home. Year 5 are off to a London show this week as part
of their Roald Dahl studies. They are off to see Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory - a fantastic way to bring some of Dahl’s amazing and
outrageous characters to life and a truly memorable finish to this
everlasting gobstopper of a topic. Our times tables challenge has started
for Years 1 to 6 and we look forward to celebrating with children as they
overcome each personal hurdle. Watch out for cards and badges!
By now most of you have signed up to meet your child’s teacher at
Parents Evening next week - if you haven’t please contact the office as
there are still some spaces available. These meetings are an opportunity
for you to catch up on your child’s academic, social and general progress
and to discuss anything on your mind. Please do not feel you have to wait
for these evenings if you ever have anything on your mind to discuss.
Class teachers are usually available in their classroom from 8.30-8.50 in
the mornings and often after school. Mrs Morgan and I greet the
children and parents each day as they arrive at the door to the school
and are always happy to chat or do our best to allay a concern. If you
prefer to make an appointment, please contact the school office who will
liaise with whichever member of staff you need to see or speak to and
come up with a mutually convenient time. We would much rather hear
about concerns, deal with an issue or receive some good news as soon as it
happens.
Following the success of last term’s Premier Sports programme, we have
welcomed Mr Berry and his team back this term for another 6 week
course. Children from Years 1-6 have sessions each week with focuses
this time on football, volleyball, tennis and basketball.
With half term fast approaching I would like to congratulate children on
their hard work so far this year. All are so focused in class and our many
visitors often comment on the children’s exemplary behaviour and
manners. Sometimes it is good to hear a third party compliment our
children’s attitude, their general air of happiness and the atmosphere
around the school. It reminds us that we are a school to be proud of and
it spurs us on to continue working hard and enjoying our time in school.
Have a great half term.
