What would you do, if told you’d only

9 months to live? There’s a treatment with a 1 in 10 chance of success. But it costs too much, so the bastards pulled the plug!

But hey, there’s nothing more dangerous than a man with nothing to lose. So we scammed and we

schemed and we raised the money ourselves. But we broke the law and somebody had to pay.

THE GREAT BEAR It’s about LIVING, LOVING and lots of money! The feel-good movie… where everyone dies

well, almost.

Synopsis

“ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST crossed with THE STING” Scottish Screen

THE GREAT BEAR is a unique caper and universal story of HOPE set in Scotland, with The Bear who’s larger than life itself, showing those around him who are dying - how to LIVE. Placed on a hospital ward with computer whiz Phil Norton and 6 others, they’ve all been diagnosed with a rare form of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and unless treated will die. Treatment costs £125,000 per patient and with a survival rate of only 1 in 10 they are no longer Cost Effective. Treatment is withdrawn.

Rather than accept their fiscal fate, the 8 team up to scheme their way to £1 MILLION for their treatment. The question is, can they raise the money? and if so, who will survive?

Our heroes discharge themselves, rent a highland mansion as a centre of operations and get to work. John and The Bear put their heads together, hatching a plot to sell a fake Knighthood to a wealthy and deserving sucker. The Bear provides the sucker. John provides the class and Ray’s Looky Likeys provide Her Majesty. A cheque is handed over, a Gong changes hands and the group kitty begins to build.

Natalie knows where to buy cheap diamonds. Katrina knows about their huge rate of Import Tax. Gav knows about smuggling. The opportunity cannot be ignored, but the risks are high. The diamonds are bought and the smuggling goes off smoothly with help from Gav’s dad and his pet homing pigeons. However the spiv that’s used to fence the goods is arrested. With nowhere to sell the diamonds and all their assets tied up in them, the group is thrown into crisis. It’s a decisive moment for John. He knows who will buy them. But if the deal goes ahead, the legal practice he has spent his life building will be over. He must bite the bullet and sell them. He does.

The Bear appoints himself as literary agent to old Charlie; who thought he was a retired Shipyard Welder from Glasgow. To The Bear he’s retired Major Charles Mackenzie of the British Secret Service. “Charlie knows who killed Kennedy!” and an autobiography is born. With each chapter worth a fortune, Charlie churns them out and the cash pours in. However, for Katrina it’s too little too late. As fast as Charlie writes, he won’t be able to finish the book before ‘her time’ is called.

Another peerage can’t be sold and diamonds are too risky. Time is ticking and Katrina resigns herself to the inevitable when The Bear acts. Believing that the good of the many is nothing - without the welfare of one, The Bear gambles everything to cheat time. With desperate measures that are bound to cause repercussions, he sets out on the biggest scheme of all – The Bear Raid. In an all or nothing race to the fiscal finish line, he leaks a bogus financial report into The City dealing rooms, causes mayhem in the currency markets and cleans up.

Mission accomplished and treatment is assured. However one final task remains. Whoever lives, must evade the inevitable investigation. If a dead man can be sent down for the crime - the survivor gets away scot-free!

INTRODUCTIONUpon reading THE GREAT BEAR screenplay, may you begin to share our vision of joining the ranks of classic films such as THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE and DEAD POETS SOCIETY a bold but heartfelt statement.

£40 Million UK Pounds ($50M USD) is being raised for a 40% stake. This includes the film’s UK Marketing & Distribution costs - a disruptive and competitive advantage, which all but guarantees a minimum UK Cinema Release given the number of international powerhouse distributors now offering their services for hire. The film’s initial UK release will place the film in the shop window, enabling the sale of international territories at their proven value vs the traditional pre-sale of distribution rights prior to a film’s release.

“ Films with UK distribution ▶ 50% make money with worldwide distribution ▶ 80% make money ” Paul Brett, Former Head of Cinema Services, British Film Institute

Significantly, the £40 Million budget also includes the development and marketing of THE GREAT BEAR in multiple PRE-film scaleable formats. For example PRINT (illustrated screenplay) MERCHANDISE (clothing & artwork) and AUDIO (audio drama) to not only enhance cashflow, but strategically build an engaged global audience in advance of the film’s release. Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Jungle Book, Mary Poppins and countless other film classics started out in print before their film version. Whilst a groundbreaking approach for an aspiring film, our inspiration comes from new music artists, who similarly release multiple PRE-album formats in the form of singles, gigs & merchandise to grow their fan base for maximum impact upon release of their debut album.

EARLY BIRD OFFERTo kick start and rocket fuel the project’s development as described, we are raising £1 Million UK Pounds ($1.25M USD) in return for a 3.0% stake. Given the standard rate of 1% for every £1 Million UK Pounds invested, this development stake has been multiplied by a factor of 3 to reflect the added risk of getting THE GREAT BEAR off the ground. The minimum investment is £100,000 UK Pounds ($125,000 USD)

CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS

!

show BUSINESS

The film industry is littered with expensive failures, where given the cast, crew and budget, success would have seemed assured. The missing key factor is always a great script. By contrast, the industry is also renowned for productions which on paper, should never have attained the success that they did. The key factor was always a GREAT SCRIPT. Listed below are the inherent strengths of THE GREAT BEAR script - available upon request.

“ There are only three things you need for a GREAT filma GREAT SCRIPT a GREAT SCRIPT and a GREAT SCRIPT ”

William Goldman - Academy Award winning Screenwriter

Comedy“Family entertainment, comedies and sensitive romantic titles are the cinematic winners in the post September 11 era” Screen International

Aspiring Themes • Healthcare is a Human Right – not a privilege• An irreverent stab at the establishment• Seize The Day• Hope Over Fear• Christmas & New Year feel-good finale - will also boost annual tv screenings

and lifetime value of the film.

Timely & Untapped Subject “ HMOs the new Nasties…The New Baddie in Hollywood will be HMOs - Health Maintenance Organisations (Health Insurance / Providers) with complaints, mistrust and outright hostility towards them cutting across all social and economic strata ” The Economist

Music Driven The Classic soundtrack will drive the story and promotion of the film.

Scottish Brand In the footsteps of Scottish Classics LOCAL HERO and WHISKY GALORE being a distinctly Scottish story will significantly add to THE GREAT BEAR’s international appeal - defined by the colourful characters, their trademark humour and stunning scenery! For example Uig Lodge on the Isle of Lewis is top candidate for being the central location.

Rich Ensemble CastAudiences like to identify with at least one character. THE GREAT BEAR provides a platter of different personalities. Significantly, the story’s theme of friends sticking together through thick and thin is an inherent quality of the highest ever grossing British films FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL & THE FULL MONTY

“ It’s simplePut 10 people in a house and start killing them ”

Quentin Tarantino

Completion Bond / Guarantee To underwrite the delivery of a completed film, on-time and on-budget, it is industry standard to purchase a Completion Bond. This will be purchased from Film Finances London - guaranteeing to the film’s financiers, not only completion of the finished film, but assurance that it will be delivered on time and any over budget costs will not be their responsibility. We’ll therefore acquire a Supervising Director and Co-Producer to secure the Bond and share the day-to-day workload.

THE GREAT BEAR will be marketed by one of the world’s leading film marketing agencies. For example the London & LA based The Creative Partnership with whom we have held positive discussion over the years and are credited with having marketed some of the most successful films ever.

“ To make a film successful you need to ‘open' and ‘hold' it. Marketing & Distribution 'open' the film and the quality of the script is what adds longevity to its life. Word of Mouth is key in both instances ” Screen International

THE GREAT BEAR WORD OF MOUTH TOUR will take the stars of the film to key International cities in advance of and during its cinema release to promote the movie. Significantly REGIONAL UK & US cinemas which never experience a film premiere will be included so regular cinema goers experience a Meet & Greet / Photo Opportunity with the stars after the film. This has the potential to drive and sustain social media to new levels. Not to mention the disruptive marketing campaign. For example, running ads with ‘Buckingham Palace Luxury Apartments For Sale’ with an 0800 number, only to hear the film trailer “What would you do, if you were told you’d only 9 months to live?…”

As stated in the introduction THE GREAT BEAR budget includes the film’s UK Marketing & Distribution costs - a disruptive and competitive advantage which all but guarantees a minimum UK Cinema Release given the number of international powerhouse distributors now offering their services for hire. The film’s initial UK release will place THE GREAT BEAR in the shop window, enabling the sale of international territories at their PROVEN value vs the traditional pre-sale of distribution rights prior to a film’s release. For example: the U.S. rights to LOCK STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS were pre-sold for £1million pounds two weeks before its UK release and re-sold four weeks into its UK release for £7million!

“ Films with UK distribution ▶ 50% make money with worldwide distribution ▶ 80% make money ” Paul Brett, Former Head of Cinema Services, British Film Institute
