a. 24th Andres Soriano Jr. Cancer Memorial Lecture

Activity conducted annually

Two Cancer Lectures were held during the National Cancer Consciousness Month Celebration both in Sto.Tomas, Batangas.

b. Specialized Oncology Nursing Course

Funding support has been completed

Test run is complete

All 22 registered and full-time duty Nurses enrolled in the course’s test run (coming from 6 hospitals in Western Visayas) will have their Culmination Rites this coming September 18, 2015. This is in partnership with Forum Against Cancer through Encouragement and Support and University of St. LA Salle – Bacolod College of Nursing

2. Support to UP-PGH Cancer Institute / Andres Soriano Jr. Cancer Center

a. “Chemo Fund” for Indigent Patients

On-going Continuous provision of Chemo maintenance medicines to 46 indigent Breast Cancer patients

1. Community Development Initiatives

a. Organizing efforts ASF continues to organize, sustain, and strengthen the capacities of People’s Organizations (POs) in assisted coastal communities.

ASF has sustained People’s Organizations throughout the years.

Re- organizations of Fisher Folks Organizations (FFO), Barangay Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (BFARMC) & Marine Protected Area (MPA) Management Team were conducted

b. Local Governance Continuously conduct IEC activities directed towards good and efficient local governance

Focus of IEC is on Solid Waste Management among Barangay Local Government Units and Municipal Government.

2. Community-based Coastal Resource Management

a. CRM Policy and IEC Advocacy

ASF maintains partnership with Barangay and Municipal and Provincial Government Units

ASF secured continued commitment and support from partners barangay councils by allocating budget in their annual investment plans and implementation of ordinances affecting coastal protection

b. Protection and Rehabilitation Activities

a.1. Marine Protected Areas (MPA) / Fish Sanctuaries

ASF continues to support the maintenance of Marine Protected Areas and sustain management and protection activities of Fish Sanctuaries in various island-barangays

Sustained management and protection activities in 11 Fish Sanctuaries across three (3) municipalities of Cuyo, Agutaya and Magsaysay

a.2. Coral Reef Monitoring and Fish Visual Census

Coral Reef checks and Fish Visual Census are regularly being conducted

Top four (4) MPA sites has a significant increase of an average of 63.75% (from last year’s 59.75%) in live coral cover

Top four (4) fish sanctuaries has a significant increase of an average of 22.25 in number of fish species (from 13.75 last year) and 6,059.50 in Volume of fish (from last year’s 3,330.50 in average)

a.3. Enforcement and Surveillance Activities

ASF continues to support the conduct of patrol and surveillance activities by Barangay Law Enforcement Group (Bantay Dagat)

A total of 13,660 hours logged for Patrol and Surveillance activities across all MPA sites

This resulted to 18 apprehensions (due to illegal entry within the MPA core zone, commercial fishing, use of fish net, spear and compressor) and collected PHP32,000 in fines by the affected barangays. The amount was used by Bantay Dagat Teams to support the gas requirement of the patrol boats.

a.4. Mangrove Planting Activities

Throughout the years, ASF has been regularly assisting Mangrove Planting activities in Barangay Level

Of the 4,600 seedlings which were planted this year, 2,600 came from four (4) assisted mangrove nurseries

a.5. Ipil-Ipil Mini Forest Project

ASF continues in sustaining a school’s tree planting project

A 1,000-sq.m. Ipil-Ipil Tree planting project has been sustained since it was set up four years ago. This project was intended to replace the need for poles by fishers and seaweed farmers previously using mangrove trees.

This project also conforms to DENR’s requirement for schools to set aside an area for a Reforestation Project.

3. Solid Waste Management

a. SWM Policy and IEC Policy ASF continues its efforts to persuade Barangay Councils in institutionalizing the implementation of Solid Waste Management (SWM) strategies in order to minimize the negative impacts of human activities in the environment

As a result, LGU convene all business establishments with Mayor’s permit and require to use paper bags “supot” instead of free plastic bags

Solid Waste Management Council (SWMC) was reactivated and policies were deliberated

IEC activities were conducted and attended by 480 participants in various barangays

b. Coastal/Mangrove Clean-up Activities

ASF facilitates Coastal and Mangrove Clean-up activities in partnership with community beneficiaries

For the period, 9 communities were involved in the annual activity participated in by 1,638 community residents covering an aggregate of 18 kms. Coastline collecting almost 1,000 kgs. of bio and non-biodegradable wastes.

c. Waste Segregation Sustained waste segregation activities in households

2 more pilot barangays have started their solid waste management initiative.

Facilitated series of meetings between LGU’s Integrated Solid Waste Management Council and business establishments which were issued with Mayor’s Permit to Operate.

These meetings resulted in the agreement of banning the use of plastic bags by establishments by way of a Municipal Ordinance (No. 2014-1417) that took effect August 01, 2015.

d. Vermi- Culture Sustained two Vermi Culture Projects in two public schools

Produced 450 kilos of Vermin Cast used for vegetable farming in both schools.

e. Harnessing Natural Energy Source

Continued support in promoting

48 units of Solar Lamps donated by Panasonic-Japan were distributed to schools, health stations, Barangay Police and Bantay-Dagat Patrol Teams.

4 more units of Solar Suitcase (with built-in Doppler) were installed in Barangay Health Stations aside from additional 117 units solar lamps distributed to various sectoral groups in various communities. These were donated by Solar Energy Foundation.

f. Capacity Building Activities for Environment Protection

Continued implementation of capacity-building activities

2-Day Marine Protected Area Summit 43 fisher folk leaders representing 11 barangays attended the activity. These leaders are heading the management teams overseeing the Marine Protected Areas. Resource persons from the Provincial Office on Environment were invited to speak on the efforts of the province as regard MPA management.

Training on Coral Reef and Fish Visual Survey 41 new members of MPA Management Team from three (3) Island Barangays attended the training

4. Livelihood Assistance

a. Funding Support Provided initial funding support to indigent seaweed farmers to cope with their livelihood loss from Typhoon Yolanda.

b. Marketing Support Monitor on-going marketing efforts by local communities with target markets

Local products sold by local island communities to a nearby resort during the period, amounted to PhP6.4 million

Pork supplied to the resort’s staff canteen and contractors topped the list of local products supplied to the resort followed by salt, vegetables and vinegar and rice. Doormats made of cogon topped the list of non-food items delivered to the resort.

c. Technical Support On-going Facilitated the conduct of training for women’s group on Seaweed Food Processing conducted by DSWD-KALAHI Program

130 residents in Manamoc attended the training on “Techniques on Proper Hog Raising”

Trained 28 Barangay Health/Nutrition Workers (BH/NWs) on the concept and replication of Food Always In the Home (FAITH) Backyard Vegetable Farming.

5. Education Program

a. Pre-school (Kindergarten) Program

ASF turned-over 3 pre-school classes in areas where there are public elementary schools to allow DepEd to fully operate its K-12 program last school year 2013-2014.

ASF retained 3 pre-school centers while at the same time, continued providing support to kindergarten children in public schools.

Last school year, 57 pre-school children graduated from three Pre-school Centers fully-managed by ASF in areas which do not have public elementary schools.

This year, there are 59 children-enrolees in these Centers.

ASF also provided assistance to 267 pre-school children enrolled in 2 public schools and 3 Day Care Centers in Quiniluban by providing basic school supplies.

ASF shifted its focus on helping streamlined program for children in Day Care Centers to help prepare them for kindergarten level.

b. Scholarship Assistance

b.1. Academic On-going First Scholar who graduated in 2014 is now working after she failed to pass the CPA Licensure Exam. She plans to re-take the exam next year.

The 2nd Scholar graduated last March 2015 with BS Management Accounting Degree and proceeded to enrol for one more year in Accountancy.

The 3rd Scholar who took up BS Information Technology was dropped from the scholarship list due to failure in meeting grade requirement. In his stead, a new scholar has been chosen and is now taking up BS Political Science.

b.2. Technical - Vocational

On-going Batch 1 started in May 2014. Of the 15 students originally enrolled, 13 are now on their 8th-month as OJT in various companies in Laguna while 2 had

dropped out from class within the first 6 months of the Training Course

Batch 2 started in January 22, 2015. Of the 25 students, 23 have completed the first 6 months Basic Skills Training Course. Of these 23, 20 already passed the trade test given by partner companies required for OJT and 14 were already assigned in various companies while the remaining 6 are waiting for deployment. The remaining 3 failed to pass the trade test and have reported back to Dual Tech to take a Refresher Course and for Mentoring.

Batch 3 started in May 2015 with five (5) enrollees and is now on their 3rd month attending the Basic Training Course.

c. School Infrastructures and Facilities

c.1. Infrastructures On-going Completed construction and turn-over of two-classroom school building also provided with classroom chairs and working tables for use by pre-school children in Concepcion Elementary School

On-going 11 bookshelves were donated along with various reference books for each classroom

234 pieces of unused text and workbooks for high school students were donated to a public high school.

63 pieces of musical instruments were donated for elementary and high school students.

2 boxes of school and art supplies were donated for kindergarten students.

A set of porcelain wash basin, water closet, side cabinet and side table were donated to each school in a Barangay

6. Health Program

a. Supplementary Feeding Program

a.1. Community-based On-going Supported 322 children from 6-month old to 5 years old during the year. Of these, 256 were underweight and 66 were severely underweight.

At the end of six months, 288 children returned to their normal body mass index; only 34 remained underweight. Continuous supplementary feeding is done for these children.

a.2. School-based On-going In partnership with 4 Elementary Schools, ASF supported 388 children: 304 children were classified as Underweight and 84 as Severely Underweight

After six months of providing daily supplemental meals, 277 children achieved their normal weight level; 100 remained Underweight while 11 were still classified as Severely Underweight.

b. Reproductive Health & Family Planning

On-going Currently, there are 372 active FP users that are continuously served by the program.

c. TB-DOTs Project On-going Using the Active Case Finding Method, 174 suspected TB patients underwent Sputum Tests. Of these, 18 patients were found positive of the disease and are undergoing the prescribed treatment for 6 months.

d. Health Caravan / Annual Medical Mission

ASF holds the mission annually

20 medical professionals were brought-in for the mission and rendered 4,357 medical services to 3,157 patients

e. Water System Project

On-going construction of Level 2 Water System

Completed the construction of ground water reservoir and overhead water tank

DISASTER RELIEF RESPONSE AND REHABILITATION EFFORTS

1. Typhoon Yolanda Reconstruction and Rehabilitation

Full completion and final turn-over of 300 units 9-sq m Core Shelter done in November 2014

Donated 300 units of sanitary toilet bowls from DOH Region 4B which were distributed to recipients of core shelters

Completed rehabilitation of Catholic Chapel

2. Relief Response for Fire Victims in Maricaban, Pasay City

As need arises Distributed relief packs to 200 families who were affected by fire last February 2015. Each relief packs contain used clothes, slippers, towels and eating utensils.
