These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, tolearn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical,method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'ReplaceC536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on onemodel. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause andhow to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual orschematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify thepurchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering willbe necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance ofthe same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the processthat can be applied to other equipment problems.As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identifyyour problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting orat least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Possible Manifestations of Defects

- PHILIPS 32PHS4132 TV does not turn on, does notrespond to the remote control and control panelbuttons, the indicators are not lit or flashing.

Usually with such manifestations defect is caused byfaulty elements in the main power module 715G7734. Itis necessary to measure its output voltages, and incase of their absence (complete or partial), you shouldcheck the serviceability of the power keys (TK6A65D)converters and rectifier diodes for possible short circuit.At breakdown of semiconductors in the secondarycircuits of any converter, as a rule, it can work in theshort-circuit emergency mode without output voltages,and at short circuit in the elements of the primary circuitmost often the line fuse and more rarely the currentsensor in the source of the key break immediately.Breakdown of power switches (MosFet) in pulsesources is sometimes caused by faults in other circuitelements, for example, in the circuits supplying thePWM controller, frequency-retaining or dampingcircuits, as well as in the Negative Feedback (NF)stabilization circuits. PWM regulators PF6005AS, if theydo not have visible housing damage and outright shortcircuit between pins, are usually checked byreplacement.

- No picture, but there is sound and all other functionswork. Sometimes when switching on the image appearsfor a second and then disappears.

READ HOW TO REPAIR THE TV LED BACKLIGHT --------------> HERE.

Often in such cases there is no backlighting of the LEDpanel. The cause may be found in the failure of theLEDs, in violation of the contact connections of the LEDstrips, or in their power supply (LED-driver).It is impossible to check the LED strips for breakagewithout disassembling the panel with a multimeter or atester. For this purpose, you need to open all the PN-junctions connected in series and will need a voltage ofabout tens of volts, and ideally - a current source.Having disassembled the panel, it is necessary tocheck each LED separately. Chinese multimeters tendto light up a single 3 volt LED slightly in the forwarddirection. In the case of twin 6-volt LEDs, the PNjunction of its safety regulator may be a good indicator.Faulty LEDs will either have a broken regulator or ashort circuit.

If the PHILIPS 32PHS4132 has no picture but hassound, often the TPT315B5-FHBN0.K display backlightsimply does not work. Moreover, in LED TVs usually failthe LEDs inside the panel, less often the LED-driver.In such cases you can see a faintly visible image whenexternal light hits the screen.

To replace the LEDs requires disassembly of the LCD-panel TPT315B5-FHBN0.K - the process requiring amaster of experience and expertise. We do notrecommend to perform such works by yourself toowners of TV sets and craftsmen who do not haveexperience in LCD panel repair

If there is no image, but backlighting works - the screenbecomes slightly lighter when you turn on the TV, and inthe open TV you can see the light through the holes inthe body of the panel.In this case the panel may be defective - damage to thestrips, cables, for example, as a consequence ofmoisture after an unsuccessful washing of the screen,the T-CON board (Timing Controller) may be defective.But quite often the MainBoard 715G8659-M01-000-004Y is defective, also software failure is possible.Then first it is necessary to check the panel powersupply voltage, fuses on the T-CON board, as well asthe supply and reference voltages of the column andline drivers - VGH, VGL, Vcom.If these measurements are within normal limits, youneed to trace by oscilloscope the LVDS signals fromMainBoard 715G8659-M01-000-004Y, as well assynchronizing signals to driver stubs.

Filled or unsuccessfully washed LED TV screens canbe restored in about half of the cases, usually, if there isno significant damage to the panel stubs and slats.

- The TV does not go into the operating mode, theremote control does not respond. Front panel LED's areeither constantly on or blinking.

Repair or diagnostic of the motherboard 715G8659-M01-000-004Y should begin with checking thestabilizers and power converters necessary to powerthe chips and matrix. Ways to limit the current in LED backlight drivers:

There is a lot of information on the Internet about waysto limit the current in the LED backlighting for differentTVs and LED drivers. A lot of it is written plausibly butsometimes it is written by people far from electronics inorder to publish any popular content on hot topics toboost web-sites ratings.

It's impossible to talk about each case separately withinone article, because even similar models may havedifferent panels and different boards with their owndriver variants. But there are basic principles that areclear to craftsmen with even minimal knowledge andskill.

Other popular, complex and controversial current limitcases will be published as information becomesavailable.There are three basic ways to reduce the backlightcurrent.

1. By increasing the resistance of the LED currentsensor - a low-resistance measuring resistor in thecathode (LED-) circuit.2. Increasing the ratings of the resistors on the ISET(current setting) input of the LED driver chip.3. changing the resistor ratings in the divider on theADIM (Dimming) control input.

The fundamental difference between input ISET andADIM is that ISET - input inverted, as FB, and ADIM -direct.
