An academic capstone, this exhibition concludes the process in which PAFA’s third- and fourth- year Certificate students and graduating Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts students have developed their own cohesive bodies of work.

The exhibition is also a venue for the recognition of exceptional artistic accomplishment and promise. MFA candidates defend their final projects before the entire graduate faculty as the final step in completing their degree requirements. Certificate, BFA, and MFA students compete for prestigious Travel Scholarships (Cresson, Schiedt, Ware,

Women’s Board, von Hess, Dessner) through a day-long judging process by the appointed faculty. These scholarships award funding for world travel during the summer months and some awards include tuition in the following academic year.

PAFA awards more than 90 additional prizes to students from all levels of PAFA’s Certificate, BFA and MFA programs for demonstrated excellence in particular disciplines. Many of these prize-winning artworks are included in the Annual Student Exhibition. Selected works of art in the exhibition are available for purchase.
