CHHS15/078 Canberra Hospital and Health Services NSW Kids and Families Children and Infants: Acute Management of Bacterial Meningitis Clinical Practice Guideline (Paediatrics) Purpose The infants and children: acute management of bacterial meningitis clinical practice guideline has been developed to provide direction to clinicians and is aimed at achieving the best possible paediatric care. The clinical practice guideline was prepared for the NSW Department of Health by an expert clinical reference group under the auspice of the state wide Paediatric Clinical Practice Guideline Steering Group. It should be noted that this document reflects what is currently regarded as a safe and appropriate approach to care. However, as in any clinical situation there may be factors which cannot be covered by a single set of guidelines, this document should be used as a guide. It does not replace the need for the application of clinical judgment to each individual presentation. It is important to note the use of the therapeutic regime as outlines in this document should be review by a senior clinician and/ or Infectious Diseases medical officer as soon as practical. This document guides the immediate care of the child or infant with suspected meningitis. Scope This document should inform care of infants and children with head injuries within the Canberra Hospital and the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children. Purpose

The infants and children: acute management of bacterial meningitis clinical practice guideline has been developed to provide direction to clinicians and is aimed at achieving the best possible paediatric care. The clinical practice guideline was prepared for the NSW Department of Health by an expert clinical reference group under the auspice of the state wide Paediatric Clinical Practice Guideline Steering Group.
