Today marks the 37th annual meeting between Pacific and Puget Sound. The Boxers have won six of the last seven meetings including a thrilling 39-35 win in the season finale, last year.

Under the SunPacific will have day games for the rest of its 2017 season. The next five games will kickoff at 1 p.m. and will all be in the state of Oregon.

AlohaThe Pacific University football roster fea-tures 29 student-athletes from the state of Hawaii. Only NCAA Division I, FBS member Hawaii has more with 38 foot-ball players from Hawaii.

Evergreen with EnvyFor the second-straight week, Pacific is playing a team from the Evergreen State. There are eight players on the Pacif-ic roster from the state of Washington.

The Wright StuffTwin brothers Dylan and Nolan Wright (Sandy, Ore.) are expected to see action at the same time along the Pacific offen-sive line at the tackle position in 2017.

Busting through with BrandonSenior running back Brandon Boyd (Gil-roy, Calif.) broke off a 72-yard touchdown run against Pacific Lutheran for what proved to be the game-winning points in the 24-20 win over the Lutes. Earlier this season, he broke off a 58-yard touch-down run against Dubuque. It is now the fourth longest rush for the Boxers since the return of football in 2010. Boyd has accounted for four of the top five runs.

TOP FIVE LONGEST RUNS since 2010 1. 75 yards vs. Adrian (9/2/16) - rush by Kamana Pimental2. 73 yards vs. Lewis & Clark (10/15/16) - rush by Boyd 3. 72 yards vs. Pacific Lutheran (10/7/17) - rush by Boyd 4. 66 yards vs. Lewis & Clark (10/15/16) - rush by Boyd5. 58 yards at Dubuque (9/9/17) - rush by Boyd.

Special Teams SuccessSenior kicker Alex Beekman (Beaverton, Ore.) made three extra-point attempts and a 22-yard field goal and senior punter Ryan Carhart (Roseburg, Ore.) punted the ball four times with a career-long of 59 yards against the Lutes, last week. The 59-yard punt is the longest since a 66-yard punt by Nathan Suyematsu against Linfield on October 10, 2015.

Gilgan to Work With USA FootballPacific defensive coordinator Lukkes Gilgan has been named the Defensive Backs Coach for the USA U19 select team. Gilgan and the USA U19 Select Team will coach in the International Bowl in Jan. 16-17 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tex-as, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Picking Off the FunThe Boxers have had an interception in each of the first three games. Senior safety Fresno Masaniai (Kapa’a, Hawaii) picked off his second pass of the season against PLU, last Saturday.

Sacks from the Guy from SacramentoSenior defensive end Xavier Harvey (Sacramento, Calif. / Jesuit) created havoc to the PLU defense, recording 3.5 sacks of Lutes’ quarterback Cole Chandler in the Boxers’ 24-20 win. For his efforts, he was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week. He finished the day with six tackles from his defensive end position. The 3.5 sacks are the most in Pacific history since the return of football in 2010.

Trading in the Pads for WhistlesSix former Boxers have traded in their pads to join the Pacific coaching staff. The six are Defensive Line coach Mi-chael Smith; Linebackers coach Gabe Flory; Wide Receivers coach P.J. Minaya; Assistant Offensive Line Coach: Nick Schilla; Assistant Defensive Line Coach Jeff Bajema and Assistant Linebackers Coach Jack Perez. Bajema and Perez are the most recent to transition from on the field and in the pads to whistles. Both Bajema and Perez ended their ca-reers among the best in program history. Perez wrapped up his playing days with multiple honors in 2016 including Pacific Male Athlete of the Year as well as being the first player in program history to be named first team All-American (Amer-ican Football Coaches Association) and to be selected All-American twice in the same year. Perez was also named first team all-West Region by D3football.com and first team all-Northwest Conference after making a school record 123 tackles. He was also selected as the NWC Defen-sive Player of the Year. Last fall, Bajema tied the single-season record at Pacific with 14 tackles for loss to lead the Boxers en route to first team all-Northwest Con-ference honors for a third-straight year.
