About Us

PACEARCHITECTS is an award-winning Sydney-based architectural firm founded in 2009 by Patrick Pace.

Our portfolio includes a range of healthcare, residential and commercial/industrial projects of varying scale and complexity. Working with leading developers and builders, our team has a reputation for delivering innovative solutions.

The PACEARCHITECTS team is a dedicated group of designers and architects with youthful enthusiasm and inventiveness. This, together with our experience across all areas of discipline, enables us to take a unique approach to each project. We emphasise one-to-one service: clients appreciate dealing with the same point of contact throughout the job, from first meeting to project completion.

Our initial strategy involves reviewing each site and project brief on its own merits. We engage with clients and extract further information to develop our ideas and concepts. With our optimistic and rigorous approach, we maintain a high level of dedication. To keep projects within budget parameters, we make practical and informed decisions.

We are proud to have been associated with quality developments valued over $100M, which have boosted Australia’s economy. We value our communities and believe that as architects, we have a responsibility to contribute positively to community building.

We are collaborators. We advocate strongly for our projects on behalf of our clients and are known for our ability to communicate design ideas to a wider audience. We are adept at analysing the constraints of planning envelopes and height limits with a view to maximising yield and optimising floor plate configurations.

The PACEARCHITECTS team is familiar with project delivery in the commercial marketplace. We have successfully collaborated with many of the major development companies and tier-one head contractors across several Australian states to design and deliver projects ranging from $5M to $50M. Our design approach always seeks the best resolution between urban context, site response, architectural expression and commercial viability.

We thrive on repeat business and are relentless in our endeavour to protect our reputation for high-quality projects, friendly relationships and high-level proactive design development, cost planning, project financing and construction delivery.

Our team furthers our design excellence through new product presentations, architectural lectures, exhibitions and Australian Institute of Architects presentations.

Recent Awards

Mayo Group Headquarters

Master Builder Association – Best Industrial Building

Location: Moorebank, NSW.Client: GoodmanBuilder: Prime ConstructionsType: Industrial & CommercialCompleted: 2012Value: $9.5 million

A high-quality project, the Mayo Group Warehouse presented challenges throughout the design and construction process because of aspects unusual to industrial warehouses.

Our work included the creation of a fully integrated laboratory and associated clean rooms with a dangerous goods storage area. The warehouse area required a super-flat floor to suit wire-guided, high-reach forklifts with a connection to an existing facility. The innovative activity-based offices also demonstrated the high standard of work involved.

The Hills Clinic Private Hospital

The Hills Building and Design Award – Best Commercial and Best Public Development

Location: Kellyville, NSW.Client: The Hills ClinicBuilder: FDCType: Health & Mental Health HospitalsCompleted: 2011Value: $7 million

The Hills Clinic, Kellyville, is the first purpose-built private psychiatric hospital in NSW. Set on two acres, it is adjacent to a further two acres of open public space. Kellyville has traditionally been a semi-rural area with many market gardens, but is now one of Sydney’s largest growth areas.

In developing the concept for this facility we wanted to retain the connection with the area’s rural heritage. In landscaping, we dedicated a large proportion of the site as open space. Inside, every room offers a connection to the natural surroundings. The clinic’s north-facing aspect and large areas of glazing also mean that patients and staff enjoy vast natural light.

YA The Loft – Private Adolescent Mental Health Hospital

The Hills Building and Design Award – Best Interior Design

Location: Kellyville, NSW.Client: The Hills ClinicBuilder: Red Eye ConstructionsType: Health & Mental Health HospitalsCompleted: 2014Value: $3 million

The Loft is a creative space that we hope will provide an atmosphere for young adults to feel comfortable and recover their health. The brief was to create a purpose-built mental health hospital for young adults aged 16 to 25 years and a separate ward for adults comprising 28 beds, GP office, consult rooms and group rooms. Our involvement included project management, concept design, section-96 applications, construction documentation and on-site construction oversight.

The mural adorning the loft lounge is a creation of artist Alex Lehours. It depicts a journey of discovery and growth that pays homage to Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book Where The Wild Things Are. As in the book, the mural shows Max, a young boy in a wolf costume who sails through a world of ‘Wild Things.’ Max successfully manoeuvres through potential dangers to return home to his family.

Community

PACEARCHITECTS recognises that access to lifelong learning, caring and mentoring can have positive impact on individuals and communities. Our experience includes the design and delivery of community precincts in addition to work in health, childcare and charity sectors. The wide variety of stakeholders and user groups in community projects require an extensive consultation process. The community engagement process aims to inform the public about developments and enable feedback on potential social impacts, and ways to mitigate negative impacts whilst enhancing positive opportunities. The community engagement process includes gathering information on social and economic conditions.

The results of our community engagement process are especially evident in The Hills Clinic Private Hospital project. The first purpose-built private mental health hospital in NSW, The Hills Clinic received special mention in Canberra by Member of Parliament Alex Hawke for its innovative design. Since 2013, PACEARCHITECTS have been actively involved in community fundraising. We have successfully raised over $20,000 thanks to our generous clients and consultants.

Exposure to architecture and property development in his formative years had a profound influence on his career path. During his studies, Patrick was tutored by Architect Bruce Rickard and worked in his office. Mentorships with Architects Peter Tonkin and Col James AM also furthered his passion for design and activism within architecture.

Our scope was to best utilise the steep site for an industrial development. An undeveloped site in the Reedy Creek Industrial precinct, the key was to create a scheme that minimised earthworks construction whilst delivering an efficient industrial development.

By designing shared loading areas for the warehouse, we reduced the area of hardstand required and created space for a second warehouse. We were responsible for site-specific concept design, development application documents, and construction documentation and oversight.

This project consisted of an existing warehouse and office. Requirements included refurbishing the original office and warehouse to meet specific client needs and new BCA guidelines. This included retrofitting the existing office area to open-plan configuration, extending the floor plate within the warehouse for additional space and viewing, and creating new lounge and dining areas, and kitchen, shower and toilet facilities. We also created a 3-tier car park and a new foyer and entry statement for the main office. We specially designed and coordinated the warehouse loading and internal cooling room areas to suit DHL’s stringent operation methods.
