VISTING ARTIST
GINA MARSHALL
On Tuesday 15th October we
had a visit from Gina Marshall, a
local artist based in Swanage.
Much of Gina’s work is based
around local landmarks or
coastal scenery, as you can see
from the sample below. She has
a unique and methodical
approach towards her art and
came in to deliver a workshop
for our Year 5 children, along
with some visiting children from
Winchelsea Special School.
The children are now working hard on heir own paintings and have taken on this new artistic challenge with enthusiasm. We hope to be able to display the children’s finished works in two art exhibitions at the Lighthouse in Poole and in the Lulworth Visitors Centre. We are looking forward to seeing the children’s work on display and we will be sure to give parents the dates and times of these exhibitions.
OUR ARTS PARTNERSHIP
PROGRAMME
Lulworth & Winfrith Primary School &
Winchelsea Special School
This term our Year 5 children will be team-
ing up with children from Winchelsea
Special School in Poole as part of an
ambitious Arts Partnership Programme. It
is hoped that the final works will be
displayed in Lulworth Visitor Centre and in
an exhibition at Poole Lighthouse.
The children will be working closely and it
is a real example of how well our children
live out the school values of belief, fellow-
ship and harmony in their everyday lives.
Through the project the children will be
studying the works of local artist Gina
Marshall. Gina has already attended some
of the sessions with the children and is
working with them on this joint project
which will be a positive and inspiring
experience for all of the children.

OUR WIDER CURRICULUM
Curriculum Afternoons
The new Ofsted framework now highlights the importance and high expectations of a broad, balanced and creative curriculum in more detail. At Lulworth we have now revised and
restructured our curriculum on Friday
afternoons to ensure more consistency in
our delivery of R.E. and to create more
opportunities to explore the Wider
Curriculum, with the children taking part in a
range of art, design, science and physical
activities on a rotational basis.
Curriculum Day—School Values Last Monday was our first whole school curriculum day and the children spent time exploring the school’s new learning values: Aspiration, resilience, courage, collab-
oration, trust, friendship, respect, kind-ness and forgiveness
We feel that these new learning val-ues support the school’s core val-ues of belief, fellowship and har-mony extremely well.
OUR BROAD, BALANCED and CREATIVE CURRICULUM
Governors’ Update
Co-opted Governor
Vacancies x 1
Who can be a co-opted governor?Anyone can be a Co-opted Gover-nor. A Co-opted Governor is chosen by the governing body and are people who have the skills required to contrib-ute to the effective governance and success of the school. We are specifically looking for people with a finance background but will con-sider anyone. The most important qualities for being a governor are enthusiasm, commit-ment and an interest in education. What does the role involve? At most schools you’ll need to attend a governors' meeting each half term. You’ll also be invited to join one sub-committee – these cover different are-as like the curriculum or finance and buildings. You’ll need to be able to work well in a team. If you think this is something you
would like to apply, please contact the
school office on 01929 40330
HARVEST CELERBRATION
Earlier this month, the school celebrated
Harvest Festival by holding a service at the
Holy Trinity Church in West Lulworth.
It was a lovely occasion with the children
singing and sharing poetry that they had
written around the harvest theme and the
service was supported by members of the
church community
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all
members of the school and wider community
who supported the school by attending this
service.
There was a harvest collection for the local
foodbank and the school was grateful for the
generous donations that were made. This has
already been sent to the foodbank to support those
in the community that are in need.
Our Values in Action
Our school values of Belief, Fellowship and Harmony underpin everything that we do at
Lulworth and Winfrith Primary. Through these values we believe
the children will grow morally, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
School Values and Celebration Assembly
Recently, we have reviewed our school values and ethos and our recent curriculum day
was based on our new learning values. We will now be linking these values to our school
assembly programme and next half term we will be focussing on the values of:
ASPIRATION, COURAGE AND RESILIENCE.
Year 6 Forest Schools
Were inspired to write a poem about an old oak tree that we saw when we were taking part in a forest schools activity in Wood Street.
Ode To A Tree Unnoticed. The tree stood still, gnarled, twisted by centuries of loneliness. As crippled as witches nails, standing above us. The tree is like a wizened, ancient hag standing alone amongst the youth of saplings. The spirit of an elderly lady, grabbing her closest victims. It's winding fingers reach out like a greeting hand. The tree is creased: withered, growing with ivy stretching out of it's bones. Lonely, sad and depressed: the tree stands like a soldier in war. Hide.
Year 6 — Mill on the Brue Residential
In September our Year 6 Class went on an early residential trip to Mill on the Brue Activity Centre in Somerset.. The activity centre is in a beautiful setting and the children enjoyed taking on the challenge of a range of outdoor activities and impressed the instructors with their shooting skills, enthusiasm, bravery and commitment. The teachers were extremely proud of all of the children who were great ambassadors for the school.
RIDE AND STRIDE
Following on from last year and as part of our
commitment to church and community, on
Friday 25th October, the Year 2 and KS2 chil-
dren took part in a ‘Ride and Stride’ event. The
children walked from Daggers Gate to East
Chaldon in an effort to raise money for the
Dorset Historic Churches Trust . The event
was a great success and the children man-
aged the walk well.

Wider Curriculum Time
Henry DHB—Year 5
“ WACCA time is great fun
because we get to do different
activities and work with different
children and teachers.”
“ My favourite activity this term
has been design technology,
where we have been designing and
making our own playgrounds with
Miss Neaves. I am also looking
forward yoga as well!”

SPORTING NEWS
Dare to Believe Festival
At the end of last month Year 3 and 4
children took part in a multi-sports
event at Purbeck. There were a variety
of games such as fireball, crocodile
cones and some football based team
games and the children put a lot of en-
ergy and effort in to their performance.
The children showed their speed and
agility throughout these activities and
we were proud of their sportsman like
attitude throughout the event.
Crocodile Cones
Bertie:
“I really enjoyed the crocodile cones game. It was fun and fast paced!”
SPORTING NEWS
Football Competitions
7 A- side Football Competition
A group of nine skilful boys from Year 5 and 6
took part in a football competition earlier this
month. The games ran for 6 minutes, so the
football was fast and played at pace.
The boys played brilliantly and showed true
sporting spirit in the way they supported each
other and acted on and off the sportsfield.
Year 5/6 Girls Football
Our Year 5 & 6 girls played eight energetic 11
minute games of football in a competition last
week at Purbeck. They should all be very
proud of their efforts. They showed skill, resili-
ence and self belief as they took on some
challenging competition.
It was a tough afternoon but through their
determination, friendly attitude and team spirit
the girls managed to secure 2nd place
overall—well
done!

Dates for the Diary
Parking Unfortunately, the school has now received several complaints and comments from parents and members of the community around parking, blocking entrances and keeping children safe at dropping off and picking up times. This is across both school sites but is more acute at Winfrith. Can we remind all parents to be careful and considerate and these times and make an extra effort not to block the lanes or cause any concerns for parents with very young children. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
