Par Avion Flight Training (PAFT), a division of Airlines of Tasmania Pty Ltd, is part of Tasmania’s largest aviation company.

Our HistoryFounded over 30 years ago, Airlines of Tasmania has been operating as a charter / airwork company in all states of Australia and throughout South East Asia and the Pacific. The company holds a Regular Public Transport Licence, with a fleet of over 20 aircraft. We own and operate Cambridge Aerodrome, Hobart’s general aviation airport.

Our OperationsOur operations are diverse and include:

• Flying Training – student pilot licence, private pilot licence, commercial pilot licence, multi engine command instrument rating, instrument flight rules (IFR), night use intrument rating

• Regular Public Transport (RPT) – Essendon to Griffith, Launceston to Cape Barren

• 737 Simulator – fixed-base Boeing 737-800 simulator

• Tourist Charter Flights into the remote Southwest National Park of Tasmania, including a wilderness camp on the shores of Bathurst Harbour, part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area

• Aircraft Charter throughout Tasmania

Our FleetWe use modern training aeroplanes with advanced avionics for ab-initio/navigation training. A fleet of larger aircraft such as Piper Chieftains and Cessna Titans, provide students valuable experience in aeroplanes operated commercially throughout Australia. This experience could mean the difference when applying for your first flying job.

Our SimulatorsFlight training integrates simulator based learning and provide training opportunities in a safe environment. We have simulators approved for Instrument Training, as well as a Boeing 737 Simulator, (1:1 scale replica) for students to use.

MaintenanceWe have both CAR30 and CASR Part 145 Maintenance approvals and our aircraft and serviced in accordance with the Australian Government Civil Aviation Safety Authority’s Maintenance Standards.

WHY LEARN TO FLY WITH US?

Par Avion Flight Training (PAFT) is dedicated to your learning and development in aviation. We provide an excellent training environment with dedicated and experienced instructors, integrated theory and flight training. We have a variety of aircraft types coupled with modern facilities. You’ll also benefit from our long-standing industry experience.

Low Traffic DensityCambridge Aerodrome is only 15 minutes from the city of Hobart, and is a low density traffic aerodrome, almost solely dedicated to use by our organisation. Having little traffic means that your flying time and hands-on training is maximised in every flight hour.

In comparison to many mainland centres our airspace is relatively uncluttered. You’ll spend more time in the air and less time taxiing, waiting for clearances and circling at crowded holding points. In comparison to aerodromes such as Moorabbin (Melbourne) or Bankstown (Sydney), this can mean a significant time and cost saving for students.

Modern FleetAb-initio training will be conducted in the latest model Cessna 172 “S” models. The Cessna 172 (the world’s most popular and versatile training aircraft) with it’s high wing design and modern avionics is ideal for training students.

Commercial training will be conducted in a Cessna 206 aircraft, an aircraft routinely used for single engine commercial operations throughout Australia and around the world. This gives the student experience in a “real world” commercial aircraft.

Students will have the opportunity to gain experience with Garmin GPS in their training as well as benefit from flying into remote and challenging airfields around Tasmania.

WeatherFlying in Tasmania offers a unique combination of weather, airspace and topography that is ideal for authentic and varied flight training.

We have the longest hours of daylight in the country, which means more flying opportunities. We have a generally moderate climate and temperature extremes are rare.

Tasmania’s weather and seasonal changes offer useful opportunities to gain experience in many types of weather conditions when training. While “cold and wet” may spring to mind, the reality is that our state is surprisingly sunny and dry in comparison to many parts of Australia.

Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) conditions can often be experienced in Tasmania. This makes actual IFR training/practice and instrument approach training/practice a reality, meaning that your training is more authentic and aligned with real-world operations.

TerrainYou’ll be flying over mountainous terrain within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, of which you’ll have opportunities to perfect visual navigation within, but also have chances to experience flying in other parts of the country, with navigation exercises taking place to other states in the country.

Navigational AidsYou will fly in and out of the two major airports in Hobart and Launceston, regional airports in Devonport and Wynyard and many smaller airports and country airstrips throughout the state and Bass Strait.

Tasmania’s airspace includes air traffic services at two Class D towered airports, with the remainder managed by Melbourne ATC, in both radar and non radar airspace.

ExperiencePAFT is part of the Airlines of Tasmania group of companies. We conduct flight training, scenic flights and wilderness tours, intra and interstate charter flights, and Regular Public Transport (airline) operations. Your instructors therefore have a wealth of multi-faceted “real world” commercial aviation experience to bring to your training.

Flying training is a specialised field that requires professionalism and a real emphasis on safety. The Par Avion Flight Training flying staff are dedicated career instructors with a wealth of experience in all aspects of general aviation. All staff are committed to providing students with the highest quality training together with the highest safety standards.
