Asking for Directions
• When asking for directions in PD, use the following questions:
• Wie kumm ich zu ________?– How do I get to _______?
• Wu iss _____?– Where is _____?
• Kannscht du mir saage, wu ____ iss?– Can you tell me where _____ is?
Giving Directions
• When giving directions, give them in the Command Forms (Video 37).
• Dreh mol rechts uff der Elm Schtrooss!– Turn right on Elm Street!
• Geh mol graad bis zur Poschtaffis!– Go straight ahead until the post office!
Giving Direction Terms
• geh – to go drehe – to turn• rechts – right links – left• hinnich – behind newwe – next to• graad – straight ahead• uff dem Eck – on the corner• iwwer vun – across from • net weit weg – not far away• in der ____ Schtrooss – on ____ street.
Iewing - Practice
• A good way to practice giving and asking directions, is to draw a map or get out a map of a town.
• With a partner, have them ask how to get to a point/place on the map. You give them the directions in PD!
