Introduction
1. Selection of Project
Why are we doing this project? We wanted to create a project that would
help us use the skills and values we havelearnt in our school , to impact and giveback to our community.
We were interested in the topic as is itinteresting and ICT related.
1.Selection of Project

Awareness of Smart Town and its impact on residents
Parents Children's’ awareness of careers in different sectors Pride that their children are involved in contributing to community.

Public
Benefit from knowing the features of Smart Town and how it can impact them.
URA – They would be able to see that even young children are interested and can come up with ideas for urban planning in Singapore
URA planners could be inspired by our ideas and incorporate them in the future

1. Selection of Project
2.Target Setting
Specific The targets we set must be clearly stated and easily understood
Measurable We should be able to measure our achievements clearly.
Achievable The targets that we set should be realistic and attainable
Relevant The targets that we set must be applicable to our project
Time -
Bound
The targets are feasible within the duration of our project (from start of
project to actualisation in URA’s Exhibition)
2. Target Setting

Design Thinking Steps carried out in groups in class to come up with ideas for Smart Town features
Outcome: Each Initial Team has 1-3 ideas
Initial Teams
Initial Team disbanded to make Final team. Culmination of many ideas from each Initial Team
Outcome: A mix of many different/similar ideas without clear classification
Final Teams
We were brought together from different classes with different ideas. How were we going to synergise?
Tools that we used to discover our Root Problem
Step Tool Action
1 Brainstorming We used brainstorming to come up will all the possible
causes that we could have as to why we could not get
started.
2 Cause and
Effect Diagram
We used the Cause and Effect Diagram to classify the
causes (from our brainstorming session) in a way that we
could understand the problem better
3 Voting We voted on the cause that we felt was most responsible
for our problem
4 5 Whys We used the 5 Why Thinking Skills model to then find out
the root cause of our problem
3. Analysis of Project
Our Cause & Effect Diagram
We do not
know how to
make use of
our
collective
ideas for the
project
PeopleKnowledge
Just getting used to new
friends in our Final Teams
Not sure how to combine all the
ideas from 4 different classes
Process
We have learnt many tools since
Primary 1. Now, we could not
decide on which tool would best
help us to solve this problem
Shy to discuss with
our new friendsDoubt about classifying the
data correctly
Who would take charge of the
discussion?
Knowing where to get the
necessary information from
3. Analysis of Project
Sneak Peek into 5 Whys
Why• We are not sure how to combine all the ideas from 4 different classes
Why• We are not sure of what these ideas are
Why• We have not listed them down
Why• We do not know what to do after listing them down
Why• We did not identify any themes to classify the ideas

Selecting
Project
(Initial
Teams)
Voting Within our initial teams, we were able to select the task
that interested us the most by voting.
Voting helped us to select a task of our interest and group
ourselves accordingly
Design
Thinking
Empathise – We conducted interviews to find out needs andconcerns of our friends/families/neighbours
Define- We stated clearly our problem (coming up withfeatures for a Smart Town)
Ideate – We brainstormed and came up with possible ideas tomeet the needs of the people we interviewed
Prototype- We created/sketched our ideas
Test- We presented our ideas to our teachers and friends

Brainstorming allowed us to use the collective knowledge
of each team member as we each contributed ideas to
the cause of the problem.
Cause

Diagram
This was an effective way for us to organise or data in
categories. It gave us a clearer picture of the possible
causes of our problem
Voting Voting helps us to make a decision when there are more
than 1 choice. This helps us to narrow our choices and
work towards solving important issues quickly.
5 Whys This tool created an avenue for us to think deeper than
the surface level to find the root source of our problem. It
was because of this that we realised that we had to first
have an idea of how we wanted to present our project in
URA.

Brainstorming Once we decided to present our projects as Models,
we then went on to brainstorm on the different
themes that we could use to classify all the features
that the Initial teams brought together.
Brainstorming again gave us a comprehensive list of
themes to decide on
Criteria Setting Criteria setting helped us to select the theme based
on our requirements and needs. It helped us to
make the best decision out of the many choices that
we had.

To achieve at least a B Grade in the 3C
(Curiosity, Confidence and
Cooperation) Competencies
Curiosity 74 % achieved
• All of us showed curiosity in taking on this task• Though each one of us personally selected this
task, it is a challenging and relatively new topic that we had to explore.
• We are glad that we have shown great resilience in seeing this project through
Confidence 100% achieved
• We have proven to ourselves that we are able to accomplish what we set our minds to do.
• Through the various presentation platforms, we have grown in confidence
Cooperation 70 % achieved
• All of us cooperated well throughout the project.• We have learned the importance of teamwork –

9. Project Sustainability
• Presenting our ideas to Industry experts
• Using coding skills to integrate micro-bits in final product
• Sharing of ideas and experiences to the next batch of pupils
• Displaying of the models in the school’s WHIZZroom
9. Project Sustainability
Cost SavingsWe have achieved cost savings in the following ways;
We ourselves designed our ideas into 3D designs using the 3D design software
– save instead of total outsourcing
Use of QR code to direct visitors to information of our Models
– Save ( and the environment) by not printing
information booklet
9. Project Sustainability
10. Impact to OrganisationOrganisation Impact
Ourselves We become motivated learners, critical
thinkers and leaders of characters
Other pupils They will be motivated and inspired to
contribute more to the community
School We have shown and actualised school VMVs.
We have also applied thinking skills that we
have been taught since Primary 1 and created
an innovative project that contributes
positively to society
Positive example to others
