Height Adjustment - Preliminary Testing

12/10/2015 RIT Thermal Analysis Microfluidics and Fuel Cell Lab Slide 14

● Stage found in the lab● Has relatively fine

adjustment● Need to fabricate base

plate to mount it securely to the isolation table

Height Adjustment - Preliminary Testing

12/10/2015 RIT Thermal Analysis Microfluidics and Fuel Cell Lab Slide 15

● For flexibility of injection system to allow for needle to move chose brake lines

● Can withstand high pressures (3,000psi+)● Robust and cost effective

The Oscillator - Preliminary Testing

12/10/2015 RIT Thermal Analysis Microfluidics and Fuel Cell Lab Slide 18

● Approached Dr. Lam to discuss speaker dampening ● Two really important points

○ Added noise in graphs due to lights■ No way to get rid of that■ Can implement a filter to reduce the noise

○ We should be wearing earplugs!! ■ Certain frequencies can be damaging to our ears ■ All feasibility testing was done wearing earplugs■ This was really great advice

The Oscillator - Continuation

12/10/2015 RIT Thermal Analysis Microfluidics and Fuel Cell Lab Slide 19

● Ordered Materials ● Developed designs

○ Redesigned 3 times ○ Discussed with Dr. Lam ○ Suggested a change in the internal pitch angle ○ 3 different fixtures for each

■ Creating one of each first for proof of concept○ Rob - machining

15 degree internal pitch angle

● Problems we ran into○ Machine shop has dull tools○ People spread out tools, don’t clean or put things in the wrong spot○ Tried out two different machining methods○ Had to construct fixture

● The future○ Bought sharp carbide inserts for lathe tools so future machining

will go faster○ Fixture constructed to make things easier

● Glass Pipette and Keyence camera used for liquid supply and visuals ● Needle was submerged in water ● Various frequencies were attempted

○ 10 hz was visible to naked eye○ Need more complex camera for higher frequencies

■ Current camera can only shoot 28 fps

The Oscillator - Future Testing

12/10/2015 RIT Thermal Analysis Microfluidics and Fuel Cell Lab Slide 28

● End of semester (gate review)○ Testing with at least three different gaskets○ Marking glass tube to measure amplitude of

oscillations ○ High speed camera

■ Current camera not fast enough to capture oscillations at high frequencies

■ Super resolution, low fps○ Possibly different speaker orientations

■ One vertical, one horizontal○ 6” speaker isn’t there yet; hopefully soon
