Principal’s Report
STAFFING NEWS
Due to growing numbers, we have started a new Kindergarten class, KA, with Mrs Rid-
den as the teacher. Mrs Riddens role teaching Kindergarten RFF and KB on Fridays has
been taken over by Mrs Turner.
Sadly we had to say goodbye to some members of staff at the end of Term1. Mr Chau has
begun training with the Australian Army reserves. Ms Evans and Ms De Armelia who
were previously teaching Stage 2 and 3 RFF have outside commitments that have meant
that they are unable to continue their roles, but we will hopefully see them as casual
teachers during the term, and Ms Canderle is exploring opportunities outside of the
school.
To start Term 2 we welcomed some new staff. Ms Kemp began on 5/6H while Ms Dorne
and Mrs Mitchell have taken over the Stage 2 and 3 RFF roles. Ms Chodisetti will be
working with our EAL/D students.
Welcome back to Mr Ross from his exciting holiday.
BUILDING UPDATE
Owing to the council roadworks, the Kiss and Drop Zone at the eastern end of Junction
Road was moved to Station Street and a new pedestrian gate added there. This has in-
creased the number of cars we can accommodate in Kiss and Drop and reduced the con-
gestion in front of the school.
With regard to the school build, there will be an information booth at the school on Thursday, 16 May from 2:30pm to 4:00pm where they will happily field questions from the community.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR LEARNING
Teachers have begun using our new awards system. Mrs Parker has worked very hard establishing equivalency between the old system and the current one. Four awards will be handed out a fortnight. PBL and bronze awards will be handed out at Stage assemblies. Silver and gold awards as well as medallions will be handed out at the Principal’s assem-blies. Teachers will track the awards on Sentral but students will still be required to bring in awards to their teachers.

PRINCIPAL’S ASSEMBLY
We had our second Principal’s Assembly for the year in which several students received awards. This included Abby
Burton, Brielle McCrudden and Clarissa Suntara who all achieved their Medallion. Congratulations.
ANZAC Day
On the last day of Term 1 we held our ANZAC Day assembly utilising our new flagpole as well as the generous do-
nations of flowers from our school community. Students engaged in lessons about the history and significance of
ANZAC Day and were wonderfully respectful during the assembly. Also, the school choir did an amazing job and
delivered a very moving performance. Thank you to Mrs Yarham, Mrs Woodbury and Mrs Turner for their work on
the assembly.
We also had a pleasing turn out of students to the Riverstone-Schofields RSL sub-Branch ANZAC Day Dawn Ser-
vice at the Riverstone Cenotaph. The students marched with pride, some wearing medals earned by their relatives
and our Captains laid a wreath as part of the ceremony. Thank you to all who attended.
CROSS COUNTRY
At the end of Term 1 we had our 3-6 and K-2 school Cross Country Carnivals. Both were very successful events and I would like to acknowledge Mrs Avery and her team for the 3-6 carnival and Mrs Gairns for the K-2 carnival.
GRANDPARENTS DAY/HAT PARADE
In the last week of term we also held open classrooms as a part of Grandparents Day, giving students’ extended fami-
lies the opportunity to join them and take part in lessons. Many families also enjoyed a picnic morning tea and took
the opportunity to play with their children in the playground during the break period.
This was followed by our Hat Parade which the students thoroughly enjoyed. This event was very well attended
which is testament to both the growth the school has experienced as well as the support of our parent community.
The school Facebook page was launched and is up and running. The purpose of the page is to celebrate school events and student achievement. It is not a notification forum – we will still be using the Skoolbag app for that. The pinned post on the page sets out the rules of engagement for the use of the page. If you do not wish to have your child's pho-to published on the school Facebook page please return the green note to the school office by next Friday, 17 May.
K - 2 AFTER SCHOOL PICK-UP
We understand that as the year progresses, people’s circumstances change and how their children are collected from
school varies. Following some confusion last week, we are asking all parents of K – 2 students to please advise their
child’s teacher in writing of their afternoon routine so that we are able to remind any students who may be unsure of
where they go.
NAPLAN
Students in Years 3 and 5 will be sitting for the NAPLAN assessments on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Friday will be used as a ‘catch-up’ day for students who are absent. Students have been preparing for this in class and are reminded to just relax and try their best. In order to help students with the assessments we recom-mend having a good night’s sleep the night before as well as having a good, healthy breakfast.
ELECTION BBQ
The P & C will be running a barbeque for the upcoming Federal Election on Saturday, 18 May. If you are able to volunteer some of your time on the day, please provide the school office with your details so that they can be passed onto the barbeque organiser.

KISS AND DROP
Kiss and Drop (also known as Kiss and Ride) Zones are designed for your convenience and for your child’s safety.
Designed for quick entry and exit, these zones minimise congestion and risk when used properly by all parents and
carers. These zones operate under the same conditions as No Parking zones, which means you may stop to drop off
or pick up children for a maximum of 2 minutes. You're required to remain in, or within 3 metres, of your vehicle.
Please also note that it is illegal to overtake or make a U-turn across double white lines.
PSSA
Winter PSSA commenced on Friday, 3 May. The results for Round 1 were:

K-2 CROSS COUNTRY
On the last day of Term 1, Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 had their Cross Country event. We had a great morning cheering on our peers and even our parents! We sang, danced and ran our hearts out. Check out some of the photos from the day.

5/6C have had an enjoyable start to 2019. Some of our highlights include:

Collecting plastic bottles as part of the Return and Earn initiative.
Learning about different artists in Visual Arts.
RIDGES RUGBY LEAGUE
Last month Brayden, Hayden and Steven represented
Schofields Public School in the Ridges Rugby League team. The
team missed out on the finals but all 3 boys played well. Bray-
den was then selected out of the 180 kids to be in a 28 team
squad to attend another trial to make the final cut and represent
Sydney West. The trial was intense with a talent load of kids and
with great news Brayden Hughes made the 17 man team .
RIDGES AFL
Brayden, Hayden and Noah represented Schofields Public School in the Ridges AFL team.
Well done boys.
