Dear Board Members, Well it finally happened—it Snowed! After all the warm weather we have had in the last months, Mother Nature really got us this time. I know you folks up north will laugh at this but we here in Greer, SC got about 7 inches of snow. We don’t have the equipment for this so most everything was closed the other day, so now I’m ready for spring. The first thing I want to mention is I’ve heard our wonderful friend, Dorothy (Dot) Aiken isn’t doing well. Seems her eyesight is completely gone and she has a very hard time knowing who the people are who come to visit. I’m asking to keep Dot and all those who are also in need in our prayers. Let’s be grateful for our own good health. Dot’s address is: Dorothy Aiken, 105 N. Hills, North Augusta, SC 29841. We also need prayers for the following: Dottie Kirk, Pearlious Bledsoe, Jan Roberts, Barbara Bowman and Connie Bergeson’s mother who celebrated her 88th birthday. Please also keep Karen Pulaski and her family in your prayers for the loss of her great-granddaughter, Carlee, and for her husband, Ken’s brother-in-law. I pray we remember all those we have lost in 2016. Our thoughts and prayers go to the families. Thank you to Martha Carson and her committee for updating the NAREOP scholarship. Job well done! I hope we get lots of applications. A reminder: the Service Project, Angel’s Unaware of SC, will be accepting donations at this year’s conference in Greenville, SC. Items to donate are threads, ribbons, lightly used wedding gowns, flannel (pastel baby prints or colors). If you have questions, please contact me. As we begin a new year, I want to wish you all good health and happiness for 2017. It’s exciting to look forward to all the new experiences we will have in the coming year. Good luck to all of you who have made resolutions. I’m not one to make a resolution January 1st because I usually forget about it January 2nd!! NAREOP SCHOLARSHIP CHAIRMAN The holidays have come and gone, and it is my wish that everyone had a blessed holiday season

and a wonderful new year. It seems like the school year just started and here we are at the new year already.

The scholarship committee is in the process of updating the application. It will be available on

the NAEOP website in the NAREOP section after the first of the year. All you grandmas with high school seniors and freshmen, sophomores and juniors in college should encourage your grandchildren to apply for a $1,000 scholarship. I

hope to get several applications this year. The deadline is April 1st. Don’t delay! Also, the Student Scholarship Awards drawing is in full swing. You could be a winner. A reminder that half of the

$’s collected go to the scholarship fund and the other half will be divided 3 ways. The more entries you submit, the

greater your chance of winning. Blessings to all of you. If you ever have questions regarding the scholarship, don’t hesitate to call or email.

NAREOP LIAISON 2017

The 2017 NAREOP Service Project has been chosen in support of Angels Unaware of SC. This 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization takes donated wedding gowns and

prom/pageant dresses and remakes them into tiny “Angel Gowns” and “Angel Wraps”

for the precious little ones who are born too early, stillborn or died within the first year of life.

These tiny “Angel Gowns,” “Angel Wraps” and “Angel Bonnets” are donated to hospitals and funeral homes to be

used as final burial gowns for these precious little ones. These burial outfits are provided to the families at no cost. Angels Unaware of SC hopes to ease some of the burdens for families during these devastating times.

Angels Unaware of SC needs donated wedding gowns and prom/pageant dresses so they can continue to make

these little Angel Gowns. Other items to donate are threads, ribbons, pearls, beads, sequins, which are used in making of the gowns. They also make tutus & Super Hero capes for the children’s hospitals and Shriner’s Hospital, as well as

mother/infant bracelets, Moses Baskets and incubator blankets. All are provided at no cost.

If you are interested in donating materials for the gowns, wraps and bonnets, you may contact me by email at

[email protected] or by phone (316)283-3139. I can also supply you with the list of needs.

Monetary gifts in the form of personal checks or gifts cards to Joann’s Fabrics, A.C. Moore and Hancock’s are also greatly appreciated. These can be mailed to: Karen Pulaski, CEOE, 2017 NAREOP Liaison, 8433 S. Spencer Road,

Sedgwick, KS 67135.

All donations can be taken to the July 2017 NAEOP Annual Conference and will be presented to a representative of Angels Unaware of SC.

MID ATLANTIC AREA I have not heard any good news or bad news from our members in the Mid-Atlantic Area. I felt it might be that you forgot to let me know your state news or personal news. Please contact me at [email protected] if you have news that we need to add to the next BEAM newsletter. As for South Carolina, our SCAEOP 35th Conference will be held at the Hilton/Royal Palms Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC March 2-5, 2017. The room rates are $120 plus taxes and parking is included. For reservations call 1-800-876-0010 and use the group code: OPR. The deadline for hotel is Jan. 31, 2017. Conference registration deadline is Feb. 3rd. The retirees are going strong and are encouraged to attend and support SCAEOP. Please go to the website www.scaeop.org and

click on the conference registration information. Many workshops are available to all attending the conference. I hope all had a wonderful holiday season.

NORTH CENTRAL AREA I enjoy being the NAREOP NCA Representative. As I have said in earlier articles, I want to be able to visit all the ten North Central area states. A one-year term is not enough time to accomplish this. I have already agreed to serve on the NAREOP 2017-18 board as NCA Representative. I am looking forward to the NCA Conference in Sioux Falls, SD on June 7-9,

2017. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend the NCA Conference. I am starting another term as President of Vermilion County AEOP. Serving on the local, state, and NAREOP boards keeps me busy. As an Illinois AEOP Regional Director Central, I have the pleasure of visiting school secretaries and other office professionals in central Illinois. When I visit the schools, I take a packet of small gifts and brochures of our local association (Vermilion County AEOP), Illinois AEOP, and NAEOP. I introduce the secretaries to all three of these associations.

SOUTHWEST AREA Wow, I can’t believe that another year has come to an end. It seems like just the other day that the world was in a tither because of Y2K (the year 2000) was going to throw everything off. All the computers, ATM machines, gas stations, etc. LAUSD was afraid that the thousands of employees were not going to get paid. Everything happened as it should like clockwork because of all the preparation. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season filled with great food, family and friends. I count my blessings daily and I want you to know that You, my NAREOP family are in my daily pray-ers. We are still working on updating our addresses for our members. Have you, or someone you know moved? If so, please call our NAEOP office so that all your information is up to date. We would hate for you to miss our wonderful BEAM that Kathy Ramos and Becky Shipley work so hard on. We thank you ladies. As we close this year, I look forward to 2017 with a happy heart. Please remember that I am always here for you. XOXOXO
