THE INTENTIONS OF THE HOLY FATHER FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE

To better know ‘the concrete problems that trouble the Universal Church, especially those

of the missions,’ the Holy Father asks that his monthly intentions be “the object of

knowledgeable and responsible prayer on the part of the people of God.”

Universal: That the unemployed may receive support and find the work they need to live in

dignity.

For Evangelization: That Europe may rediscover its Christian roots through the witness of

believers.

2nd Collection ~ JUNE 1

The Collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) funds projects that bring the gospel message to the faithful and to those seeking the faith

through the Internet, television, radio and print publications. CCC inspires, evange-lizes, and enriches, all with the push of a

button or the flip of a page. Please support this important work and be generous in the Collection. CCC is how the Good

News gets around to you.

PLEASE REMEMBER THOSE WHO HAVE PRECEDED US

IN DEATH. KEEP THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.

Gregory Scott Walsh ~ May 1 (SM parishioner and husband of Suzanne)

Alex Loukanis ~ May 6 (Brother of SM parishioner Helen Noble)

Dianne Darling ~ May 10 (Former SM parishioner ,wife of Floyd &

daughter of the late Jack & Corky Bodman)

Patricia Doehring ~ May 13 (SM parishioner & wife of Wilbur Doehring)

Barbara Dooley ~ May 19 (Sister of SM parishioner Kenny Jarvis)

~ SECOND COLLECTION ~ June 29 ~ Peter’s Pence Collection

(Holy Father’s Charities) The Peter’s Pence Collection is taken up worldwide to support the most

disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters and others in need of emergency assistance.

FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI ~ Sunday, June 22

On the Feast of Corpus Christi, the total offertory in every parish of the archdiocese is

dedicated to the support of those studying for the priesthood. Over a million dollars is needed

from this collection to support our seminarians studying for the priesthood. To achieve this

goal, Archbishop DiNardo requests that you double the amount of your regular church support

for the weekend of June 21 & 22. If each contributor will do this, the needed subsidy will be

met by this collection. In gratitude for the incomparable gift of the Holy Eucharist which is

inseparably joined to the priesthood, please do your part to help the archdiocese provide priests for the sake

of your future by praying daily for vocations and supporting this collection.

NEWS FROM ST. MARY CEMETERY COMMITTEE:

The St. Mary Cemetery Committee has, for some time, been considering placing a Columbarium (a masonry final rest-ing place for those who's remains are cremated) in our cemetery. The Committee would like to receive comments and the expressed wishes of all parishioners regarding this project. The first section of our Columbarium would have forty five (45) "niches" which would each receive two urns with cremated remains. The Columbarium would be paid for by those who choose to utilize it. The costs for each "niche" would be the same, or just a little more, than a burial site. This is a permanent, all weather, "forever" structure, which would be located in the new section of the cemetery, on the other side of the exit road. Please take time to consider this proposal and let the committee know your thoughts regard-ing this project. You can provide the Committee your input by: (1) Sending a note to: CEMCOM, 13549 Northshore Loop, Conroe, TX 77304, (2). email to: [email protected], or (3) con-tacting one of the Committee Members (Rusty Smith, Mildred Rosenberg, Roy Klaus, Manny Molina or Bob Card after mass.

From Fr. Bill:

I’m a Yankee from the foothills of upstate New York’s Adirondack Mountains where the tempera-

tures is still dipping down into the thirties. A couple of weeks ago, my brother told me that all of

the trees there finally had their leaves and most of the perennials were growing with courage.

Down here in God’s country, it’s a lot warmer with flowers and even tomatoes already the size of

eggs. It’s wonderful – but, of course, our climate also has its down side.

Just think ahead with me a few months – say to mid-July or August. Of course we’ll be enduring our heat and

humidity – and then more heat and humidity. But, to be honest, for me that’s not the worse thing summer brings each

year. Just imagine with me – pretend that it’s a Sunday evening in late July. You’re at home, enjoying a late supper

barbecue in the back yard, and then .... BZZZZZ .... there she is, the dive bomber.... it’s one of our main predators --

the Gulf Coast mosquito! [And, in case you’re wondering why I said “she,” – all those who bite us are females; the

males don’t have a proboscis strong enough to puncture anything but plants.]

But, I ask you, why do we get so excited? We know that she really doesn’t want very much – just a drop or

two of blood..... and she’s got a very good reason for it. Without that blood, and its richness, she wouldn’t be able to

lay eggs, thereby ensuring another generation of bloodsucking joy! And so, she’ll land, move her head back and forth,

and then slowly poke a hole; it’s then that her little theft becomes more serious. Before she starts drinking your blood,

she injects a drop or two of her saliva, a rather ingenious concoction containing both a bit of anesthetic to kill the pain

and an anticoagulant to keep the blood flowing. Some jokingly call those few drops “her payment” for your blood!

It’s that “gift” or “payment” that’s really the problem. Almost all of us are allergic to her saliva, and so we

start swelling and itching. But it can be even worse; her saliva can, as we all know, produce other problems like

malaria, encephalitis, or Nile fever – not good at all! So, what do we do when we see her coming, when we feel her

settling down for her “little snack”? Do we gently pet her and say: “Have a good meal!” or: “I hope your little ones

are as cute as you!” Of course not. We don’t say anything like that [and since this is going to be in our church

bulletin, I’ll just leave out what we do say!]. Instead, we instinctively try to slap her into whatever mosquito afterlife

may be. After all, what gives her the right to do that to you or to me? Who’s more important: the mosquito or you?

Now, I ask you, aren’t we lucky that God doesn’t treat us like a mosquito? For me, that little mosquito is a

sign, a reminder of how very different we are from God. If we’re honest, we have to admit that what we do by sinning

is a far greater offense against God than what that little mosquito could ever do to us. She owes you nothing; you just

happen to be there, her snack bar, so to speak. But the relationship between God and us is far more intimate; all that

we are and all that we have come from Him. Thus, our sinning is far more grievous than what a mosquito could ever

do to us. But how does God react? As amazing as it seems, He doesn’t respond with a SPLAT! In fact, quite to the

contrary [as we’ve been celebrating during Holy Week and the weeks since then], our God responded in the past and

continues to respond in the present not with vengeance and anger, but with both His love and His mercy. Why? It’s

because He loves us and He wants us to share in that love and peace for which He created us.

I’m always encouraged when I remember our Lord’s first words to His frightened friends after His resurrec-

tion: “Peace be with you!” He said. [Jn 20:20] By “peace” however, Jesus meant far more than what we normally

think that word means. His peace was to be more than merely an end to the apostles’ cares and worries. The peace

Jesus gives comes from outside this world; it is a peace that comes from God His Father and ours, a peace that is both

the result of His love and the cause of His mercy to us – to us who really deserve something far different.

And you know, the even more marvelous thing is that this gift wasn’t meant just for His Apostles back then.

The Lord Jesus cares for and comes to us as well – just as He came to those frightened friends of His in that locked

upper room in Jerusalem. He wants us to remember as we go forward each and every day of our lives that we’re not

doing it alone. Jesus is with us; our Lord and Savior constantly offers us His loving forgiveness and help, His love and

His mercy, that same love and mercy that drew Him to offer His Father for each of us His life on that horrible cross of

Calvary. That is truly the peace which this world cannot give.

So how do we attain that peace? How can we live like that – not only in this life, but in the life to come?

St. Paul gave us the “road map,” so to speak, when he said: “Imitate me as I imitate Christ.” [I Cor 11:1] If in our

lives we try not just “to live as Christ asked,” but rather “to live as Christ lived,” then we will be a success where it

really matters. But how do I do that? I’ve always liked those wrist bands and T-shirts that many wear that are marked

with the letters: W-W-J-D – What Would Jesus Do? If, throughout our lives, each of us will ask ourselves that

question – and then live by its answer, we too will be a success where it really matters. If you can do that, then you

will truly follow St. Paul’s advice and imitate Jesus by living as He wishes. In this, you will truly be all He calls you

to be.

Our reflections during these weeks leading up to Pentecost remind us that we are to continue

the mission of Christ. We are able to do so because we have been given the Holy Spirit.

Vincentians serve in the legacy of St. Vincent de Paul. With his heart set on loving God and

neighbor, Vincent searched for whatever methods might make that love active and credible.

Vincent always encouraged cooperation among people in service. Jesus gathered his apostles and disciples

together. Vincent followed Jesus’ example and he used his creative abilities to gather, direct, and encourage

cooperation and mutual support in ministry. Vincentians are not called to merely do good works. They are

called to participate in the meetings and opportunities

which the Society provides to further both personal

spirituality and that of the conference as a whole to

accomplish those goals.

We see the poor all around us and we long to respond

to their needs, and so we pray:

-Spirit of God, fill us with your power.

We are called to be the “face of Christ” to those we

serve,

-Give us the grace to be true Vincentians.

We see encounter you in those we serve,

-We give you thanks and praise! Amen.

We are always happy to welcome new members to our St. Vincent de Paul

conference. We meet monthly. Our purpose is to reach out to those in need while working

to improve our own spirituality. If you are interested in learning about our work, please call our president,

Gerry McKenna at 936-873-0162.

The next meeting is set for Thurs., June 19 @ 3:30pm in

the SM FLC.

Registration is now open for the CATHOLIC WOMEN’S

CONFERENCE 2014 September 19 & 20, 2014 San Antonio Riverwalk

Two-Day Event The Catholic Women's Conference is a 2-day event for women that offers speakers to teach, encourage, and challenge women in the Catholic faith, Adoration and meditation, fellowship with other sisters in Christ, music for prayer and praise, and exhibi-tors that offer spiritual resources to help women grow and share the Catholic faith.

Encountering Jesus Most significantly, the Catholic Women's Conference is the 'well' where women encounter our Lord, Jesus Christ. (Think of the Samaritan woman's encounter with Him in the Gospel of John.) At the CWC, women directly encounter Jesus through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession), Benediction and Healing Service, and Adoration of the Eucharist.

We also enjoy praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Ro-sary together with our sisters in Christ.

A Message from the St. Mary Cemetery Committee:

I know how proud of our St. Mary cemetery all my fellow parishioners are and how we want to have it be a "jewel" in the St. Mary community. To ensure that it is, the Cemetery Committee has established two "clean up days" during the year. The "clean up days" are always the same each year, the first Saturday of Lent and the first Saturday in October. Clean up starts at 9:00 AM and usually takes some 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Drinks and snacks are provided and all are encouraged to come and help with the effort. Also, to ensure the cemetery stays in pristine condition, the Cemetery Committee has established guidelines for the placement of flowers and other "sentimental items" which parishioners and family members wish to place on graves. These guidelines are offered to ensure that the grounds maintenance crew can do their work in the most efficient manner possible and to ensure that the cemetery remains clutter free. Items which do not conform to the guidelines are removed at "clean up days" and are placed under the tree, to the left, just outside of the large gate, to be reclaimed and taken away by the family. Please do not be off put by this necessary program. Thank you, in ad-vance, for complying with the guidelines which are for the good of all those "at rest" and to keep our cemetery the "jewel" it is.
