K.S. Rangasamy College of Arts and Science is established in the year 1995. The Campus of

the College is found in the system atmosphere of shady palm group of about 400 acres. The College

is a Co-Educational Institution, affiliated to the University of Madras since its inception and then

affiliated to Periyar University, Salem from 1998. The College offers 15 UG Courses, 12 PG Courses,

7 M.Phil, and 5 Ph.D programmes in the stream of Science, Commerce, Management and

Humanities. Four thousand Students from rural as well as urban areas across the nation have been

provided with ample opportunities to pursue education at all levels in all disciplines.

UGC has conferred Autonomous status for the College from the academic year 2009-2010. It

has been included under 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act, 1956. The college is accredited by NAAC and an

ISO Certified Institution. The college has received financial assistance for research activities and for

conducting seminars and workshops from different funding agencies including DST, DBT, TNSCST,

DRDO, etc.

The Department of Mathematics is one of the departments, which is functioning, from

the inception of the college from the year 1995. It offers Graduate and Post Graduate courses

under CBCS pattern with the affiliation of Periyar University, Salem and is on a relentless march

towards academic excellence. The Department maintains a record of good service with the vision

of having quality teaching and research, developing sound body and mind, inculcating social

responsibilities and blossoming of human excellence.

The Department continues its efforts in guiding the students academically, molding

their character as well as equipping them with communications skills and the like, to make them

confident, competent and efficient citizens.

The area of specialization of our faculty members are Algebra, Complex analysis,

Differential equations, Graph theory, Fluid dynamics, Mathematical modeling, Optimization

Techniques, and Stochastic process. Our faculty members have presented papers in various

National and International Conferences. Some of the faculty members pursuing their research in

various fields viz Algbra, Real and Complex analysis, Differential equations, Graph theory, Fluid

dynamics. Our Department has been traditionally celebrating the birthday anniversary of the

gifted Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, by conducting various Mathematical

Competitions to the students. The Department is periodically conducting Workshops on LaTex,

SPSS, MATLAB, Algebra and Analysis. Recently our Department has conducted three days

National Workshop on Differential Equations using MATLAB during the month of January 2013.

About the Department

Page 9: P National C Recent Advances in Mathematical

Mathematical analysis is an emerging frontier area of research that plays an important role

in enhancing the efficiency of any field of Sciences. It is well known that the analysis plays a vital

role which is used by the Applied Sciences to solve a great number of problems.

Modern Mathematical Analysis plays a very crucial role in applications of Mathematics in

various disciplines. Real analysis, Complex analysis, Functional analysis and Topology constitute an

integral part of analysis.

It also provides mathematical methods for finding (or approximating) solutions of

differential equations which are important in the formulation of mathematical models of real-life

problems. This theory has grown by leaps and bounds during the last two centuries.

It envisages interactive discussions, problem-solving, and identifying frontline research

problems, for being taken up by researchers for intensive study through projects and other modes

in the following thrust areas but not limited to the following:

• Analysis and Topology

• Algebra

• Discrete Mathematics

• Applied Mathematics, etc.,

Several eminent mathematicians will deliver invited lectures at the Conference based on

their current research of exposing surveys and emergent topics in the frontier of the knowledge in

the applications of the Mathematical Analysis. In addition to the invited talk, open problems will be

discussed in this conference.

It is expected that different mathematical methods from the various branches of

Mathematical Analysis and innovative skills employed in different classes of problems of Science

and Technology and future developments will be intensively discussed during the conference.
