A Note From the Director
The last 3 years, the leaves start to change, the weather cools off, back to school is in full swing and I stress out over 6 weeks of silliness to put together a short production that will ultimately mean nothing in life except a memory that might mean the tiniest change in your world. For me, every show I've directed has been filled with sweet and wonderful memories. I've made new friends, watch kids rise to a challenge, and for 6 weeks make sacrifices great and small to follow my crazy ides with a hesitant, but willing, “ok...” and create a production. I have loved working with this group, each show is a struggle, but this is the first show I felt the struggle was ultimately mine. This cast and crew has been so willing to say “yes”, that my brakes were never engaged and what a freeing and frustrating feeling that is. I cannot believe we are here at the end of months of prep work from my team (ok, Victoria and my Mom) to create this vision where “the pool will take on different shapes- and the colors become brighter. So bright that in a moment they'll go on fire.” I feel I have truly found Neverland. This is my place where I never grow-up, I remember how to play, to dream, to fly. Yes, I fly in these shows. The “lovely thoughts” are the power to create anything in a world that is only defined by my imagination. But, as Wendy discovers, there is a limit. We do grow-up. Every night I go to sleep and wake-up in the morning to head to work and I feel just like Mr. Darling who is trying to keep life afloat...the bills, the house (just keep those comments to yourself, family & friends), my health, my sanity. But every night when 5:00 comes, I rush to Neverland, if only for a few hours. I remember being Wendy's age being so torn between loving all that childhood holds, but knowing there is more in adulthood for you. You have to come back from the adventure. You have to grow-up. It isn't fun or exciting or anything like you'd imagined, but it allows childhood to begin again. You pass on all the joy and excitement of childhood to another when Peter comes back to visit. This story is about growing-up. It is about learning to see there is more in life than what you can see. There are other worlds and adventures just waiting for you when you come home and continue your journey. I hope just for a little while, you are taken back when dreams had no limit, colors were brighter, adventure was around every corner, and, best of all, you can fly!

A Heart for the Arts What we value at the Foundation of Arts: The arts are important for everyone. In fact, they are vital; we are our best selves when we are true to how we were created, and all people were created to be creative. To trust and to be trustworthy are each necessary for great community. We practice these with every project. All people, at every age, race, or creed, should have access to growth opportunities. We love a challenge. Even though, at times, it hurts a bit to grow. We want everyone who wants to grow to be able to join in with us, so we do our best to help that to happen. Each person is on their own journey, and no one is perfect. So we value each individual, and we don’t easily give up on each other as we work and play together. Excellence in our programming, our art, and our experiences together is of the utmost relevance on our journey in community. So I took this from the FOA’s mission, vision, and values statement. It is my own “take” on each of our values. Whichever way each of us might summarize, I know that each time a group of people has enough vision for their own lives to join in community - challenging each other and uniting to create something good - it is living life to the fullest. If your values intersect with ours, I hope you’ll join the FOA family as a volunteer or a supporter in whatever way you will. Blessings, and with a heart for the Arts, Kristi
