Activities Week is almost over with the grand finale tomorrow. The week concludes with a trip to Horsham for a range of different indoor swimming activities. Throughout the week the stu-dents have been involved in an array of interesting, exciting and challenging activities ranging from canoeing to unusual science experiments to togas, drones and exploration maths. Stu-dents who have attended have been very positive and seem to have enjoyed the extra effort by teachers to provide an exemplary activities week program. The superb array of cooking and creating in the P-6 area has been enjoyed by all as have the swimming lessons. The rain, however, has interrupted the swimming somewhat.
The Final Week Monday 17th December – Grade 6 Graduation Ceremony. All students (Prep to Year 9) will be going to the pool after lunch. Tuesday 18th December - Awards Night rehearsal. Primary school Christmas party. Film afternoon. Awards Night. Wednesday 19th December – Clean up. Thursday 20th December – First Aid training day for staff. No scheduled classes and bus-es will not be running. Friday 21st December - final clean-up by staff. No scheduled classes and buses will not be running.
Awards Night Rehearsal All students are expected at school on the morning of Tuesday 18th December for Awards Night rehearsal. Students will be taken to the hall at approximately 11am and the rehearsal is ex-pected to go for about an hour. Following this, Year 7 to 9 secondary students wanting to leave for the day may do so if they have a note from their parents, while all others are expected to return to school for the remainder of the day. Year 10 to 12 students are required for the re-hearsal at 11am then depart after being dismissed from the hall. Students may wear casual clothes to ensure a fresh clean uniform for Awards Night.
Prep and Year 7 Transition The final step in the transition process took place earlier this week for the state-wide orienta-tion day. The transition process has been a gradual build-up over time so that all students are comfortable with their new classes for 2019. We were fortunate to have our two new primary teachers with us on Tuesday. Miss Amanda Cook spent the day with her new Prep-Year 2 class while Ms Tracy Bound had a day teaching her new Year 4 to 6 class. Welcome to both Miss Cook and Ms Bound. We are looking forward to having both of you here next year. It was won-derful, also, to meet our new students for 2019 again and make them welcome to our college.
Student Reports & School Magazine The end-of-year student reports have now been finalised and will be handed out at the end of Awards Night. If you need a follow-up interview please phone the School Office on Wednesday morning to arrange an interview by request for either Thursday or Friday, the possible inter-view days. Students are not expected at school on Thursday or Friday next week unless an in-terview has been arranged. The school magazine will also be handed out at the end of Awards Night to those who have pre-purchased a copy. Staffing Changes for 2019 Farewells are always difficult but with farewells come opportunities. It is with sadness that we say farewell to the Baulch family. Mr Baulch has been appointed to Bannockburn College while Mrs Baulch will continue on family leave. Both have been wonderful contributors to Hopetoun
P-12 College over the eight years they have been here. Mr Baulch has taken on the Leading Teacher role and has been the leader of the student engagement and wellbeing area. In partic-ular, he has led the introduction of School Wide Positive Behaviour. He is also very well known for his contribution to sport and physical education at the College and football and tennis in the broader Hopetoun community. Mrs Baulch has been heavily involved in teaching a range of subjects as well as involved in many activities across the community.
I am sure I speak for everyone when I wish them all the very best in their new home. Dave, Steph, Archer and Sonny we will miss you all.
We also say farewell to one of our newer teachers, Miss Maddie Tegelhuter. Miss Tegelhuter has been with us for twelve months teaching the Year 4-6 class following a two-year teaching stint in England. Miss Tegelhuter will spend part of her holidays in Cambodia teaching English then move to Camperdown College to teach a Year 3-4 class. Thanks, Maddie, and all the best for your teaching career.
Farewell Farewell to the following families who, after one year or over many years, have contributed towards the Hopetoun P-12 College community:
Maddy Cashill and family. Jacob Holm and family Perri Proposch and family Samantha Sharp and family.
All the best to you all and thanks for your input to the College community.
Staffing for the 2019 School Year All teaching positions for 2019 have now been filled which is good news for a smooth start the school year. Leanne Burns, who has been on leave for a few years, will be returning in 2019.
Start Dates for 2019 The starting dates for 2019 are listed elsewhere in the newsletter. Suffice to say here that there will be a phased start to school in 2019. Teachers commence and have professional learning days on both Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th January. All Year 7 to 12 students commence on Thursday 31st January while students in Prep to 6 will be given an interview time to attend on Thursday 31st January.
All Prep to Year 6 students start full-time from Friday 1st February. Parents of students in Prep to Year 6 will receive a letter during January indicating an interview time and a meet-the-teacher session for Thursday 31st January.
Buses will commence running on Thursday 31st January.
School Council Our final school council meeting for the year will be held tomorrow morning. Finance Com-mittee will meet at 7.15am and Council at 7.30am. Business includes approval of the indicative cash budget for 2019 as well as approval of the Annual Implementation Plan for 2019.
Next Week’s Newsletter We will publish a newsletter next Wednesday (19th December) and distribute it to any students who are in attendance. It will also be on our website. The newsletter next week will be key dates for 2019 along with some photos and follow-up to Awards Night.
Big Breakfast Remember to set aside Tuesday 5th February 2019 for our Big Breakfast welcome. Yes, we will be holding our welcome breakfast on Tuesday 5th commencing at 8.00am. Lock it into your cal-endar!

PARENT PAYMENT CHARGES 2019
Please find attached to this week’s newsletter, copies of the Parent Payment Charges for primary and secondary students for the 2019 school year.
A copy of the charges will be mailed to you shortly in readiness for the new school year.
We would appreciate payment at the commencement of Term 1, 2019. The school appreciates that families may sometimes experience financial difficulty in meeting payment requests. There are number of support options are available to parents who have difficulty making payments including State Schools Relief or the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (see below). In addi-tion please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to discuss payment options or make alternative arrangements for pay-ment.
All parent payments and contributions can be made by cash, cheque at the school’s office or via Bpay or EFT (details for EFT are provided on the parent payments sheet).
If you applied for the CSEF at your child's
school in 2018, you do not need to complete
an application form in 2019 unless there has
been a change in your family circumstanc-
es. You only need to complete an application
form if any of the following changes have
occurred: new student enrolments; your child
has started or changed schools in 2019 or
you did not apply in 2018. changed family circumstances; such
as a change of custody, change of name,
concession card number, or new siblings
commencing at the school in 2019.
CSEF is provided by the Victorian Gov-
ernment to assist eligible families to cover
the costs of school trips, camps and sporting
activities. If you hold a valid means-tested concession
card or are a temporary foster parent, you
may be eligible for CSEF. A special consid-
eration category also exists for asylum seek-
er and refugee families. The allowance is
paid to the school to use towards expenses
relating to camps, excursions or sporting
activities for the benefit of your child. The annual CSEF amount per student is: • $125 for primary school students • $225 for secondary school students
