City of ‘One Thousand Welcomes’

One Young World is the preeminent global forum for young leaders aged 18 to 30. Established in 2009, One Young World

hosts an annual Summit attended by 1,300 delegates from over 190 countries. No youth dominated event represents as

many countries outside the Olympics. To date, Summits have taken place in London (2010), Zurich (2011), Pittsburgh

(2012) and Johannesburg (2013). Highlights from Johannesburg can be watched here.

One Young World Summit 2014 takes place in Dublin, Ireland, 15-18 October.

The main Summit sessions will be held in the Convention Centre Dublin with breakout sessions hosted at over 30 venues

across the city. The Summit promises to give delegates a real introduction to the Irish way of life and its legendary

welcoming reputation through a series of cultural events held in iconic locations.

Dublin will welcome One Young World delegates with a ‘One Thousand Welcomes’ tour. Each delegate will be introduced

to a young Dubliner and together they will take a local tour of Dublin. They will see the real sights and sounds of the city,

not just the ones from tourist maps, but the authentic fabric of Irish life. Visiting delegates will leave Dublin inspired by our

vision and motivated to deliver change in their own organisations, communities and cities.

The theme of Peace and Reconciliation is core to Dublin's hosting the One Young World Summit. With a turbulent and at

times divisive past, Ireland has at last found relative peace across both borders and communities. Over the course of the

past 17 years Ireland has seen the introduction and cementing of a successful peace process. This unique historical

context will be captured by the Summit programme.

Who will attend?

We expect approximately 1,300 delegates from every nation, 25 Counsellors and 100 Observers at the 2014 Summit in

Dublin. One Young World Summits also welcome the world’s media, with over 300 outlets attending and covering previous

Summits.

Delegate Speakers & Flag Bearers — The Delegate Speaker competition and Flag-Bearer selection will take place in late

July and August; confirmed delegates and Returning Ambassadors will be entitled to apply.

A detailed Summit programme will be released nearer the start of the Summit and an outline agenda follows.

One Young World Summit 2014

The Opening Ceremony – Flags of 196 countries are carried by young delegates as they arrive processing into the

Convention Centre Dublin, overlooking the River Liffey. Attended by Counsellors, Observers and the media; keynote

speakers will include Sir Bob Geldof and Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland.

Plenary Sessions – A series of six attended by all delegates and Ambassadors. Each session lasts two hours and features

speeches given by delegates who are personally introduced by a Counsellor. Counsellors then go to the floor with

microphones to interact with the delegation. Currently, One Young World Ambassadors and incoming 2014 delegates are

deciding the focus of six topics from Education, Global Business, Human Rights, Leadership and Government, Peace and

Security, Sustainable Development, Youth Unemployment, Global Health and Migration. At this stage, the former six are most

popular. A formal announcement will take place in early July.

Special Sessions – Curated on the basis of interest and popularity shown by One Young World Ambassadors over the last

four years. Special Sessions last between 30 minutes and 1 hour. The 2014 Special Sessions aim to include Q&A with

Arianna Huffington; Social Business with Muhammad Yunus; Q&A with four former Presidents of Latin American Countries;

presentation and dialogue with four of the most successful entrepreneurs under 30; Ellen MacArthur on the Circular

Economy; as well as sessions with Barclays CEO Antony Jenkins and Unilever CEO Paul Polman.

Breakout Sessions – At these sessions delegates break into smaller groups, for which they have pre-registered, based on

special interests. Topics will be available in early September 2014. The Internal Breakout Sessions hosted at the Convention

Centre are developed and led by Ambassadors and delegates who are active in specific areas; the External Breakout

Sessions are supported by local partners and occur in iconic venues in Dublin to provide informative and inspirational

sessions.

External Breakout Sessions – Are held at iconic venues across Dublin such as Croke Park and Trinity College, designed to

create an interactive experience outside of the Conference Centre

Internal Breakout Sessions and workshops – On over 10 topics often requested by One Young World Ambassadors such

as how to be an entrepreneur, how to encourage transparency in leadership, etc.

Closing Ceremony – Includes presentation by 2015 Host City, handover of baton from Mayor of Dublin to 2015 Host City

Mayor.

Other events for partners and observers — There are typically various side-events for partners, observers and media; this

programme will be refined and shared with supporting organisations nearer the Summit, with any special event invitations

sent separately.

Location

Dublin (known in Irish as Baile Átha Cliath) is the capital of Ireland situated in the province of Leinster on Ireland's east coast,

at the mouth of the River Liffey. Dublin is a young vibrant city with a multicultural community. Home to over 100 different

nationalities, Dublin is a bustling city with a population of over 1.7 million. While cosmopolitan, Dublin has still managed to

retain its own distinct culture which is expressed in a love of literature, drama and traditional music.

Languages

In Ireland English is the most commonly spoken language. The official language of Ireland is Irish or Gaelic. While Irish is not

spoken on a day to day basis, you will see it on official road signs. It is taught in school to the age of 18. There are also strong

“Gaeltacht” regions on the South West and West coast of Ireland, where Irish is the main language spoken.

Weather

Similar to much of northwest Europe, Dublin experiences a maritime climate with mild winters, cool summers, and a lack of

temperature extremes. The average maximum January temperature is 8.8 °C (48 °F), while the average maximum July

temperature is 20.2 °C (68 °F). On average, the sunniest months are May and June, while the wettest month is October with

76 mm (3 in) of rain, and the driest month is February with 46 mm (2 in). Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year.

Visa information and Registration

Only confirmed and fully booked delegates, Returning Ambassadors or Observers will be invited to the official One Young

World Summit registration site. Please ensure any delegate place bookings have been made and invoicing details provided to

the One Young World team. Once delegate booking has been confirmed and fully paid, the delegate will be invited to register

by the One Young World Logistics team. The OYW Logistics Team will provide a letter of invitation for each delegate upon

individual completion of the logistics registration site and confirmation of receipt of payment. You must complete all the

information on the registration site in full as this information will inform the contents of the letter and logistics management.

Many nationalities can travel to Ireland without obtaining a visa. Please check www.inis.gov.ie to establish the entry

requirements. The Government of Ireland waived application fees for One Young World delegate visas. Please note that One

Young World invitation letters in support of visa applications only apply for the duration of One Young World Summit 2014

Dublin. Once a delegate completes his or her logistics registration form, the OYW Logistics Team will update those not eligible

to travel without a visa, or those requiring transit visas to travel to Dublin, on next steps.

All travellers to Ireland should note the following:

Anyone requiring a visa or a transit visa to enter Ireland (delegates, Observers, Returning Ambassadors, etc.) should adhere to

One Young World’s 8-10 week guideline application period. This means you should be fully paid, registered and considering

making your visa application at the beginning of August 2014. Outside this guideline, support from the OYW Logistics Team

and Government of Ireland may be limited. It is the delegate or attendee's responsibility to ensure they are aware of the type of

visa they may require or whether they require a transit visa to travel through another country to enter Ireland. Please note there

is no visa application fee for One Young World delegates.

All Irish Embassies have been notified and are expecting One Young World applications. No delegate will be allowed to apply

for a visa unless they have the required documentation provided by One Young World/Conference Partners. Payment for

attendee places must be made in full by any supporting organisations or individuals before the required letters of invitation

for attendees’ visa applications will be provided. Any other costs associated with delegates applying for visas or travel to

any application offices such as embassies are the responsibility of the delegate and cannot be covered or supported

by One Young World or Conference Partners.

All visa applications must be made on-line at www.inis.gov.ie on what is known as AVATS (Automated Visa Application and

Tracking System). In addition, supporting documentation must be submitted to the relevant processing centre in hard copy.

Applicants are advised of the appropriate processing centre on completion of the on-line stage. A full list of all of the

documentation to be submitted in support of a conference visa is outlined on www.inis.gov.ie. PLEASE NOTE: it is the

individual’s responsibility to apply for a visa and to submit all required documents in good time within the advised timeframe.

The OYW-related letter of invitation only covers the dates of the Summit. Should you wish to remain in Ireland, any further

information required for the associated visa application, as well as any costs incurred, are the responsibility of the delegate and

not OYW or Conference Partners.

Included in the Registration fee …

Standard Delegate and Returning Ambassador registration includes:

• Hotel accommodation on a shared basis for four nights, for the nights of 15, 16, 17 and 18 October

• Catering for breakfast, lunch and dinner on 16, 17 and 18 October with breakfast only on 19 October

• Airport transfers and ground transportation during the summit (where required)

• Summit access & registration as a full voting ‘delegate’ including all delegate side activities, sessions and materials

• Membership of the One Young World Ambassadors Community (alumni network) after the Summit

The delegate fee does not include international or local flights or any fees associated with visa applications.

Single Rooms: Single rooms can be requested at a supplementary fee of £289 (covering the nights of 15, 16, 17 and 18

October, the duration of the Summit). To request a single room please email: [email protected]

Additional Nights: Should delegates wish to book additional nights prior to or following the Summit, a request can be made

to [email protected]. A fee of £145 will apply per night per single room, and £153 per night per twin room.

One Young World will endeavour to accommodate all requests, where and if possible. Those booking additional nights will be

provided with breakfast in the hotels only; other meals will be the delegate or sponsor’s responsibility.

NOTE: One Young World cannot accommodate or provide meals/catering for attendees outside of these parameters, unless

there is no existing flight route available which would allow the attendee in question to arrive in time to attend the Opening

Ceremony on Wednesday 15 October. In these cases, please enquire or if your sponsor/organisation is arranging flights

please check with them. One Young World will confirm in writing if additional accommodation or meals will be provided; this

will apply in exceptional cases only.

Observers: Observer registration is inclusive of access to the main Summit programme as an ‘Observer’. Summit-venue

catering, additional special events and dinners will be confirmed nearer the Summit. Standard Observer fees do not include

flights, airport transfers or accommodation. An ‘Upgraded Observer’ fee of £2,750 plus VAT is available for those wishing to

attend and be accommodated with a delegation. The fee includes meals, ground transport and airport transfers. For those

with complimentary Observer places, the difference payable to ‘upgrade’ is £1,050 plus VAT.

Registration once arrived

Delegate registration will only take place at the CCD. You will not be able to collect your registration badge or register at your

assigned hotel. Registration at the CCD will be open from Wednesday 15 October until Saturday 18 October 0700 - 2200.

There will be a welcome desk in each of the hotels which will be manned from 0700 – 2200. An out-of-hours number will be

provided and available in information packs closer to the Summit.

Travel to Dublin

Travel to Dublin is not included in the Summit fee and responsibility lies with each individual delegate or their sponsor to put

the appropriate arrangements in place.

Delegates should ensure that they arrive into Dublin airport no later than 1400 on Wednesday 15 October in order to ensure

they can participate in the Opening Ceremony. Departures should be arranged for Sunday 19 October. Note that only

breakfast is provided on Sunday 19 October.

Delegates should log into their registration form to update their details with their final flight arrangements by 30 September so

that the appropriate airport transfer arrangements can be provided. If these details are not provided, we cannot ensure

transport will be available at the appropriate times. NOTE: Invitation letters in support of visa applications will need to reflect

flight and passport details; for those requiring visas please ensure your flight reservation details are accurately recorded on

your registration form.

Transport during the Summit Detailed transport planning is currently underway and we are finalising the details:

Airport Arrivals – OYW will have an arrivals team based at Dublin International Airport. Delegates will be met at the airport

and guided to their hotel in OYW transport (30 - 40 minutes).

Airport Departures – OYW will have a departures team / person based in each of the hotels. Delegates will be met at their

hotel and taken directly to the airport in OYW transport (30 - 40 minutes).

Hotels to Summit venues – Any hotel not within walking distance will be serviced by a shuttle service. This will run

according to the Summit programme at the beginning and end of the day.

External venues – Transfers to any external venues that are not within walking distance of the venue will be by private

coach.

Individual Transport – The Summit programme is very tightly planned and we do not envisage any attendees needing to

make transport arrangements outside the official programme.

One Young World is committed to ensuring that all aspects of the Summit are fully acessible for those with disabilites. Hotels

and the CCD is fully accessible. Please see the CCD accessibility statement here. Should you have any special

Accommodation

Hotel accommodation has been booked in the Dublin City Centre area, some within walking distance of the Summit venue,

the CCD. Where accommodation is not in walking distance of the CCD a shuttle bus will be provided by the hotels. All

contracted hotels have been visited and inspected by the OYW Logistics Team. Our site inspections assess the suitability of

the location, the suitability of the offered accommodation for Summit attendees (incl. security) and the general standard of

the property. All properties are part of well-recognised international or local brands.

Attendees will be allocated to a hotel by the OYW Logistics Team. The majority of rooms are twin occupancy. Attendees will

be allocated a roommate by the OYW Logistics Team. A limited number of single-occupancy rooms are available and can

be requested at a supplementary fee of £289 (covering the nights of 15, 16, 17 and 18 October; payable in advance).

Accommodation before or after these dates will only be provided by One Young World in exceptional circumstances, such

as for those delegates arriving from countries where there are no flight arrivals before 1400 on the 15 October. We have a

limited amount of accommodation available for those who wish to arrive in Dublin early or stay on at their own expense.

Should delegates wish to book additional nights prior to or following the Summit, a request can be made to

[email protected]. A fee of £145 will apply per night per single room and £153 per night per twin room

(delegates are responsible for informing the OYW Logistics Team and must identify another person to share with in order to

book a twin room). Rooms are available on a first-come-first-served basis. One Young World will endeavour to

accommodate all requests, where and if possible. Those booking additional nights will be provided with breakfast in the

hotels only; other meals will be the delegate or sponsor’s responsibility.

Where an organisation is sponsoring more than one attendee, it may be possible to allocate all of the sponsor’s attendees to

Main Venue

The CCD is Ireland’s first purpose-built convention centre, located in Spencer Dock in the heart of Dublin city. Its stunning

design includes a unique glass-fronted atrium running the full height of the building, which gives visitors panoramic views of

the River Liffey, Dublin City Centre and the Wicklow Mountains. See map on page 11.

External Venues

The Opening Ceremony, all Summit sessions excluding External Breakouts and the Closing Ceremony will be at the CCD.

As with the OYW 2013 Summit we are planning some External Breakout Sessions and an exciting social programme that

will take place outside of the CCD. The Docklands area, which is a short walk from the CCD, is home to local and

international technology and legal companies, where many of the External Breakouts will be located.
