The feedback we received was very positive and we have taken on board some feedback from parents about what they would like to see improved around the school. Sydney Street Patisserie Thank you to the staff at the Sydney Street Patisserie, the cup cakes and large 60th birthday
cake for Education week was delicious. I received many compliments about the cake and wanted to share your business. We wish Cassidy all the best of success at the Nationals.

The NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee 2017
Congratulations to the following students who will be representing our school at the regional spelling bee in week 9 this term. Rachel 3/4R, Nyanbout 34M, Tallara 5/6L and Sam 5/6Z.
An Aboriginal Girl’s Life By Allira in 3/4J I suddenly woke from a nightmare. I couldn’t get rid of that scene in my head. Everyone left me dying in the sun. I hopped out of the shelter to clear my head. It was cold outside. No-one was awake except a 9-year-old boy playing. I wasn’t really hungry. The wind whistled as the breeze came through my hair. I could hear the boys giggling playfully. Soon everyone was up for breakfast. We had a choice of yummy bird eggs or nice, healthy berries. I chose eggs. My parents need the berries more than I do. They needed the strength. After breakfast, I had to do my daily chores. I had to find some plants for the elderly women. I searched for the best ones so they can be proud of me! I found some little critters on the way. I picked them up as well. By the time it was lunch I had found 38 mini plants and 12 critters. Yep, I was right the elderly women were proud of me! For lunch, we had fish. It was yum. The next thing I had to do for my afternoon daily chores was go with the other girls and build shelters for the little kids. It was hard because one of the girls was being bossy. I ignored her ‘bossiness’ and built. When we finished, we had dinner.
Katoomba Scenic World – Stage 1 Excursion
Last Friday Stage 1 went to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains at 8.30 in the morning. We went on a comfortable bus with little windows. When we got there we had recess and we had Crunch n’ Sip at a big park. We got to watch the waterfall falling off the mountains. After that we went to the Skyway. We went high over the trees. We saw the Three Sisters from the Skyway. We then went to the Cableway and the rainforest. In the rainforest our guide Keira led us on a bushwalk. She showed us a fern tree, an old house and a special gum tree called a ribbon tree. The bark was shedding off the tree. We went back on the Scenic Railway up a steep cliff. It was scary! It was like a long bus and a roller coaster put together. Then we had lunch and came back home on the bus. It was a fun day! by Jaxon and 1/2V

News from the Library
Book Fair 2017
Thank you to all the parents, students and family members who supported the book fair this year. We had $5800 in sales. Almost $4000 was taken in the first hour. The school has $1740 to spend on books and resources from Scholastic over the next year.
A number of changes were made to the organisation of the fair to improve the speed in which everyone was served. We would like your feedback on ways that we could improve this even more.
This year, I placed 29 orders for books that had sold out during the book fair. All of the books ordered were in student’s hands by the following week.
In 2018, the Book Fair will be held over a number of days, as the ordering systems means that students will not miss out if they aren't the first in the door.
Debating Team
The debating team hosted the fourth and final debate on Monday 14th August against Toongabbie Public School. Due to unforeseen circumstances an adjudicator was unable to be present. As a result it was too close for the teachers to decide a winner. Our team had great arguments and achieved their personal goal of using all the allocated time, of three minutes per speaker. Congratulations Caitlin, Abeer, Ashleigh and Khodi on the debate. A special thank you to Tea and Jasmine for taking on Chairperson and timekeeper.
While our team didn't win a debate this year, personal growth, understanding of the debating process and confidence can be seen when they stand to present their debate. Congratulations on your development and growth.
Restau de Livre
On Wednesday 16th August, to celebrate Book Week, the library will be turned into a restaurant. All students Preschool to Year 6 have been invited to the restaurant to enjoy a 3 course banquet of books. A special thank you to Ms Derigo and 5/6D for becoming the waiters and busboys to allow this venture to happen. Pictures of the event will be included in the next newsletter.
Coding and Robotics
A number of students from Kindergarten to Year 6 have had the opportunity to experience Coding, in the form of writing games using Scratch, a computer program aimed at students to experience and better understand writing programs that make a game work.
Interested students in Years 5 and 6 have joined the Robotics Club at lunchtime. Their goal this term is to build the robot, trouble shoot if it wasn't working and program the Lego EV3 to complete given tasks.
Selected Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students are being exposed to programming Daisy the Dinosaur using the iPad. They have to instruct Daisy to move, jump, turn and walk to complete a given task.
