DANGER: CARBON MONOXIDE.Using a generator indoors CAN KILLYOU IN MINUTES.

Generator exhaust contains high levels of carbonmonoxide (CO), a poisonous gas you cannot seeor smell. If you can smell the generator exhaust,you are breathing CO. But even if you cannot smellthe exhaust, you could be breathing CO.

Never use a generator inside homes, garages,crawlspaces, or other partly enclosed areas.Deadly levels of carbon monoxide can build up inthese areas. Using a fan or opening windows anddoors does NOT supply enough fresh air.

ONLY use a generator outdoors and far away fromopen windows, doors, and vents. These openingscan pull in generator exhaust.

Even when you use a generator correctly, CO mayleak into the home. ALWAYS use a batterypowered or battery-backup CO alarm in the home.

If you start to feel sick, dizzy, or weak after thegenerator has been running, move to fresh airRIGHT AWAY. See a doctor. You could havecarbon monoxide poisoning.

WARNING: Read and understand allinstructions. Failure to follow allinstructions listed below could result in

electrocution, fire, and/or carbon monoxidepoisoning, which can cause death or serious injury.

WARNING: In some applications,National Electric Code requires thegenerator to be grounded to an approved

earth ground. Before using the ground terminal,consult a qualified electrician, electrical inspector,or local agency having jurisdiction for local codesor ordinances that apply to the intended use of thegenerator.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONSThe generator must be mounted on a firm levelsurface.

Do not allow children or untrained individuals touse this unit.

Keep all bystanders, children, and pets at least 10feet away.

Wear sturdy and dry shoes or boots. Do notoperate while barefoot.

Do not use E15 or E85 fuel in this product.It will damage the unit and void your warranty.Only use unleaded gasoline containing up to10% ethanol.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSDo not operate generator when you are tired orunder the influence of drugs, alcohol, ormedication.

The electrical output load must not exceed themaximum load stated on the rating plate.Exceeding the rated load will damage the unit orshorten its life and will invalidate the guarantee.

The engine must not be run at speeds that exceedthe maximum stated on the rating plate.

Operating an engine at excessive speedsincreases the hazard of personal injury.

Do not tamper with components, which mayincrease or decrease the governed speed.

Mains extension leads, mains supply leads, and allelectrical equipment must be in good workingcondition.

Never operate electrical equipment with damagedor defective mains supply leads.

Keep the area around the generator clear ofobstructions at all times. Never locate thegenerator against a building or near a canvas orplastic structure i.e.Tents etc.

Always use the correct fuel mix as stated in theuser manual and on the rating plate.

To reduce the risk of fire and burn injury, handlefuel with care. It is highly flammable.

Do not smoke while handling fuel.

Store fuel in a container approved for gasoline.

To prevent fire, always stop the engine and allow tocool for five minutes before refueling and neverover fill the fuel tank.

Loosen fuel cap slowly to release pressure and tokeep fuel from escaping around the cap.

Tighten the fuel cap securely after refueling.

Wipe spilled fuel from the unit.

Never attempt to burn off spilled fuel under anycircumstances.

Always clean up spilt fuel immediately using sand.

Do not use the generator in or near an explosiveatmosphere.

To prevent an electric shock, never operate themachine in rain, snow or touch with wet hands.

Check the fuel system periodically for leaks. Sealsand hoses should be checked for signs ofdeterioration or chafing. Check for loose or missingclamps damaged fuel tank or filler cap. All defectsshould be corrected before further use.

Always allow the generator to reach full operatingspeed before connecting any electrical load.Always disconnect the electrical load beforeswitching the generator off.

To prevent surging that may possibly damageelectrical equipment, do not allow engine to run outof fuel while electrical loads are connected.

Before transporting the generator in a vehicle, drainall fuel to prevent spillage.

To prevent an electric shock and fire, neverconnect an electrical load with the electrical outputswitched on.

Do not connect the generator to any other electricalsource.

Before storing, allow the engine to cool for 30minutes and drain fuel from the unit.

Do not store the generator in rain, snow, or wetweather.

Store the generator in a well-ventilated area withthe fuel tank empty. Fuel should not be stored nearthe generator.

Empty fuel tank, place the engine switch/fuelvalve/choke lever in the OFF position, and restrainthe unit from moving before transporting in avehicle.

Provide a plastic sheet or absorbent pad below thegenerator to catch any drips of fuel or lubricantwhen transporting.

Generators vibrate in normal use. During and afterthe use of the generator, inspect the generator aswell as extension cords and power supply cordsconnected to it for damage resulting from vibration.Have damaged items repaired or replaced asnecessary. Do not use plugs or cords that showsigns of damage such as broken or crackedinsulation or damaged blades.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSFor power outages, permanently installedstationary generators are better suited for providingback-up power to the home. Even a properlyconnected portable generator can becomeoverloaded. This may result in overheating orstressing the generator components, possiblyleading to generator failure.

Inspect the unit before each use for loosefasteners, fuel leaks, etc. Replace damaged parts.

Use only recommended or equivalent replacementparts and accessories. Use of any other parts orfailure to follow maintenance instructions maycreate a risk of shock or injury.

FUEL FILLING SAFETY RULESDANGER: RISK OF FIRE ANDSERIOUS BURNS. Never remove fuelcap when unit is running. Shut off engine

and allow the unit to cool at least five minutes.Remove cap slowly.

WARNING: Select bare ground forfuelling and move at least 10 feet (3m)from fuelling spot before starting the

engine.After refuelling, properly tighten fuel cap;wipe off any spilled fuel and check for leakage.

WARNING: If fuel gets spilled on clothes,especially trousers, it is very important tochange clothes immediately. Do not rely

on evaporation. Flammable quantities of fuel mayremain on clothes after a spill for longer thanexpected.

WARNING: Vibrations can cause animproperly tightened fuel cap to loosenor come off and spill quantities of fuel. In

order to reduce the risk of fuel spillage and fire,tighten fuel filler cap by hand as securely aspossible. Before use always make sure that thefuel cap has been properly tightened. Check forfuel leakage while refuelling and during operation.If a fuel leak is suspected, do not start or run theengine until leak is fixed and spilled fuel has beenwiped away.

ADDING OR REMOVING FUELTurn the generator off and let it cool for at least fiveminutes before removing the fuel cap. Loosen thecap slowly to relieve pressure in the tank.

Only fill or drain fuel outdoors in a well-ventilatedarea.

DO NOT pump gasoline directly into the generatorat the gasoline station. Use an approved containerto transfer the fuel to the generator.

DO NOT overfill the fuel tank.

Always keep fuel away from sparks, open flames,pilot lights, heat and other sources of ignition.

DO NOT light or smoke cigarettes.

WHEN STARTING THE GENERATORDO NOT attempt to start a damaged generator.

Make certain that the gas cap, air filter, spark plug,fuel lines and exhaust system are properly in place.

Allow spilled fuel to evaporate fully beforeattempting to start the engine.

Make certain that the generator is resting firmly onlevel ground.

WHEN OPERATING THE GENERATORDO NOT move or tip the generator duringoperation.

DO NOT tip the generator or allow fuel or oil tospill.

WHEN TRANSPORTING OR SERVICING THEGENERATORMake certain that the fuel shutoff valve is in the offposition and the fuel tank is empty.

Disconnect the spark plug wire.

When storing the generator:

Store away from sparks, open flames, pilot lights,heat and other sources of ignition.

SPECIFIC SAFETY RULESWARNING:When this generator is usedto supply a building wiring system: thegenerator must be installed by a qualified

electrician and connected to a transfer switch as aseparately derived system in accordance withSouth African Wiring Rules. The generator shall beconnected through a transfer switch that switchesall conductors other than the equipment groundingconductor. Failure to isolate the generator frompower utility can result in death or injury to electricutility workers.

Exhaust fumes contains poisonous carbonmonoxide, a colourless, odourless gas. Breathingexhaust fumes can cause loss of consciousnessand can lead to death. If running in a confined orpartially enclosed area, the air may contain adangerous amount of carbon monoxide. To keepexhaust fumes from building up, always provideadequate ventilation.

Always use a battery-powered carbon monoxidedetector when running the generator. If you beginto feel sick, dizzy, or weak while using thegenerator, shut it off and get to fresh airimmediately. See a doctor. You may have carbonmonoxide poisoning.

Place the generator on a flat, stable surface with aslope of no more than 4°.

Operate in a well-ventilated, well-lit area isolatedfrom working areas to avoid noise interference.

Operating the generator in wet conditions couldresult in electrocution. Keep the unit dry.

Keep the generator a minimum of 1m away from alltypes of combustible material.

Do not operate the generator near hazardousmaterial.

Do not operate the generator at a petrol station.

Do not touch the muffler or cylinder during orimmediately after use; they are HOT and will causeburn injury.

Do not connect to a building’s electrical systemunless a transfer switch has been properly installedby a qualified electrician.

Do not allow the generator’s fuel tank to overflowwhen filling. Fill to 25mm below the top neck of theunleaded fuel tank to allow for fuel expansion.

Check the ventilation hole inside the fuel tank capfor debris. Do not block the vent.

Do not smoke when filling the generator withunleaded fuel.

Allow the engine to remain in a shut-downcondition for at least five minutes before addingunleaded fuel or oil.

Do not remove the oil dipstick or the fuel tank capwhen the engine is running.

Pay close attention to all safety labels located onthe generator.

Keep children a minimum of 3m away from thegenerator at all times.

The unit operates best in temperatures between5°C and 40°C with a relative humidity of 30~95%.

Operation of the generator at altitudes above1,000m may require retuning. Consult a qualifiedservice technician.

When using extension lines or mobile distributionnetworks the total length of lines for a cross sectionof 1.5mm2 should not exceed 60m; for a crosssection of 2.5mm2 this should not exceed 100m.

The generating set must not be connected to other-power sources

Save these instructions. Refer to them frequentlyand use them to instruct others who may use thistool. If you loan someone this tool, loan them theseinstructions also.

Rotating parts can entangle hands, feet, hair,clothing and/or accessories. Keep hands and feetaway from rotating parts. Tie up long hair andremove jewellery. Operate equipment with guardsin place. DO NOT wear loose-fitting clothing,dangling drawstrings or items that could becomecaught.

Sparks can result in fire or electrical shock.

When servicing the generator: Disconnect thespark plug wire and place it where it cannot contactthe plug. DO NOT check for spark with the plugremoved. Use only approved spark plug testers.

PRE-OPERATION CHECKCHECKING THE ENGINE OIL

WARNING. Running the generator withinsufficient engine oil can cause seriousengine damage.

Engine oil should be replaced during regularmaintenance or when the oil level is below the endof the dipstick.

WARNING. Before checking or replacingoil, make sure the engine is fully stoppedand ther generator is situated on a stableand level surface.

ADDING ENGINE OILEngine oil has a major influence on engineperformance and service life. For general, alltemperature use, SAE 15W-40 is recommended.Always use a 4-stroke motor oil. Non-detergent or2-stroke engine oils will damage the engine andshould not be used.

1. Place the generator on an even surface withthe spark plug side facing up and unscrew theoil filler cap/dipstick (Fig.1).

2. Wipe dipstick clean and re-seat in hole; do notre-thread. Remove dipstick again and checkthe oil level. The oil level should fall within thelevel indicator area on the dipstick. If level islow, add engine oil until the fluid level rises tothe upper portion of the level indicator area onthe dipstick (Fig.2). Replace and secure the oilcap/dipstick and return the generator to thestand position.

CHECKING/ADDING FUEL1. Remove the fuel cap (Fig.3).

2. Remove and clean the fuel filter (Fig.4).

3. Fill with unleaded petrol. The fuel tank shouldnot be filled above the top of the fuel filter(Fig.5). Replace and secure the fuel cap. Neveruse old, stale, or contaminated unleaded fuel,

and do not use an oil/fuel mixture. Do not allow dirtor water into the fuel tank.

UNDERSTANDING THE CONTROL PANEL

1. AC socket which supplies rated output.

2. Electronic engine switch.

3. Oil pressure alarm indicator (Red).

A. lt will start flashing when the engine startswith insufficient amount of engine oil.

B. lt illuminates red indicating oil level belowthe safe limit before the engine automaticallyshuts down within 10 seconds.

4. Output indicator light (green) will remain ONduring operation. However, when the greenlight starts flashing:

A. lnterval Flash 1 time, low-voltage protection,engine speed low.

B. lnterval Flash 2 times, high temperatureprotection.

C. lnterval Flash 3 times, overload protection,too many loads.

D. lnterval Flash 4 times, short-circuitprotection.

The output power will be cut off should thegenerator is experiencing any of the faults that arementioned above. User will need to stop the engineto fix the issue before restarting the engine.

5. Safety grounding bolt.

LOCATION AND GROUNDINGBefore using this generator it must be preparedcorrectly before use. Locate the generator on firmlevel ground away from buildings or otherstructures ensuring that the exhaust is notobstructed.

Your generator must be properly connected to anappropriate ground to help prevent electric shock.

WARNING. Failure to properly groundthe generator can result in electric shock.

A ground terminal connected to the frame of thegenerator has been provided on the power panel.For remote grounding, connect of a length of heavygauge (12 AWG minimum) copper wire between thegenerator ground terminal and a copper rod driveninto the ground. We strongly recommend that youconsult with a qualified electrician to ensurecompliance with local electrical codes.

OPERATIONSTARTING THE GENERATOR

CAUTION. Always check the oil levelbefore starting the engine (see Page 7).

Before starting the engine make surethat all the electrical loads are disconnected fromthe generator AC outlet socket.

1. Turn the fuel valve to the ON position (Fig.6)

2. Turn the engine switch to the ON (I) position(Fig.7).

3. Set the choke lever to the CLOSED position(Fig.8).

4. Hold down the generator firmly with one handon the frame. With the other hand grip therecoil starter cord handle (Fig.9) and pull andreturn the rope gently 3-4 times to let theengine breath in the fuel mixture from thecarburetor. Pull the cord sharply. Continue thisprocedure until the engine starts.

CAUTION. Avoid damaging the plasticcase of the crankshaft while pulling therope. Aways return the recoil starter cordhandle slowly.

5. When the engine has been successfully startedand is running smoothly set the choke lever tothe OPEN position (Fig.10).

WARNING. Before connecting anyelectrical load to the generator ensurethat the load does not exceed the

maximum load as stated on the rating plate.Ensure that the mains supply lead is long enoughto reach the generator without any strain.

When the generator engine has been successfullystarted and is running smoothly connect theelectrical load to the generators AC output socket.

OPERATIONSTOPPING THE GENERATOR

WARNING. In case of emergency, theeasiest way to stop the generator is todirectly put engine switch to OFF

position. Avoid doing so in non-emergencycircumstances as it carries the risk of damaging thegenerator.

1. Before stopping the engine make sure that allthe electrical loads are disconnected from thegenerator AC outlet socket.

2. Switch off the engine by putting the engineswitch in the OFF position (Fig.11).

3. When the generator engine has stopped andbefore storage, turn the fuel valve lever to theOFF position (Fig.12).

NOTE. After disconnecting all loads,leave the generator running for another1-2 minutes before shutting it down.

Then switch off the engine switch and the fuelvalve. Switching off the engine with loads attachedmay damage the unit and cause difficulty startingthe generator next time it is used.

MAINTENANCEGENERAL MAINTENANCEKeep the generator in a clean and dry environmentwhere it is not exposed to dust, dirt, moisture, orcorrosive vapours.

Do not allow the cooling air slots in the generator tobecome clogged with foreign material such asleaves, snow, etc.

Do not use a garden hose to clean the generator.Water entering the fuel system or other internalparts of the unit can cause problems that willdecrease the life of the generator.

To clean the unit:

1. Use a soft bristle brush and/or vacuum cleanerto loosen and remove dirt and debris.

2. Clean air vents with low pressure air that doesnot exceed 25 psi.

3. Wipe the exterior surfaces of the generator witha damp cloth.

ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENTInitial oil change: After the first 20 hours ofoperation.

Thereafter: Every 50 hours of operation.

1. Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick.

2. Place a container underneath the oil drainageplug to collect used oil as it drains.

3. Unscrew the oil drainage plug and remove.

4. Allow oil to drain completely.

5. Reinstall the oil drainage plug and tightensecurely.

6. Refill with oil following the instructions in theChecking/Adding Oil section (Page 7).

7. Reinstall the oil filler cap/dipstick.

Used oil should be disposed of at an approveddisposal site. See your local oil retailer for moreinformation.

MAINTENANCECHECKING/CLEANING THE AIR FILTERFor proper performance and long life, keep airfilters clean.

1. Using a screwdriver unscrew the two air filterconnection screws located at the top andbottom of the air filter cover. Remove the coverand set aside (Fig.13).

2. Remove the filter elements (Fig.14).

3. If the filter elements are dirty, clean with warm,soapy water. Rinse and let dry.

4. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the elements,then squeeze it out.

5. Replace the elements in the air filter unit.

6. Replace the air filter cover and tighten the twoair filter connection screws.

NOTE: Do not run the generator without the airfilter. Rapid engine wear will result.

SPARK PLUG MAINTENANCEThe spark plug must be properly gapped and freeof deposits in order to ensure proper engineoperation. To check:

1. Remove the spark plug cap (Fig.15).

2. Clean any dirt from around base of spark plug.

3. Remove spark plug using wrench provided(Fig.16).

4. Inspect spark plug for damage, and clean witha wire brush before reinstalling. If insulator iscracked or chipped, spark plug should bereplaced. Make sure electrode gap is 0.60mm-0.80mm.

NOTE: If replacing, use the followingrecommended spark plug: A7RTC.

5. Screw spark plug back by hand, avoiddamaging threads of the cylinder.

6. Put the spark plug back in position and use thespark plug wrench to tighten it. If spark plug isnew, use 1/2 turn to compress washerappropriate amount. If reusing old spark plug,use 1/8 to 1/4 turn for proper washercompression.

7. Replace spark plug cap.

MAINTENANCECLEANING THE FUEL VALVE FILTERThe fuel valve filter prevents dirt and water thatmay have gotten into the fuel tank from enteringthe carburetor. If the engine has not been run for along time, the fuel valve filter should be cleanedbefore use.

1. Turn the fuel valve to the OFF position.

2. Unscrew the 4 bolts on fuel tank, use pliers toloosen the tubing clamp and unplug it.(Fig.17 & 18).

3. Remove fuel valve from fuel tank.

4. Remove filter from fuel valve (Fig.19).

5. Clean the filter.

6. Check the washer, replace if broken.

7. Assemble everything back together afterinspection and return the fuel valve to ONposition and check for leaks.

CLEANING THE EXHAUST PORT & MUFFLERDepending on the type of fuel used, the type andamount of oil used, and/or your operatingconditions, the exhaust port and muffler maybecome blocked with carbon deposits. If you noticea power loss with your petrol-powered tool, youmay need to remove these deposits to restoreperformance. We highly recommend that onlyqualified service technicians perform this service.

CLEANING THE FUEL TANK FILTER1. Remove fuel cap and filter (Fig.4).

2. Clean the filter, replace if broken.

3. Dry the filter and install back on the generator.

DRAINING THE FUEL TANK1. Turn the engine switch OFF ( O ).

2. Close fuel valve.

3. Remove the fuel line from the barb by usingpliers to loosen the tubing clamp and sliding thefuel line off.

4. Install one end of a drain line over the barb,and place the other end in a fuel containerlarge enough to catch the fuel being drainedfrom the tank.

5. Open fuel valve.

6. When the fuel has drained from the tank, closethe fuel valve and reinstall fuel line on barb.

STORAGEIf the generator is not to be used or is to be storedfor more than one month the following storageprocedure should be carried out. Drain all the fuelfrom the fuel tank and the carburettor, ensure thatall the fuel has been removed. Remove the sparkplug and pour approximately one tablespoon full ofclean engine oil into the spark plug hole. With theignition turned OFF gently pull on the recoil startercord several times. Re-fit the spark plug andcontinue to pull the recoil starter cord until thepiston is on the compression stroke (whenresistance is felt) then stop puling.

Store the generator in a dry well ventilated placeunder a cover to prevent any dust or debris fromaccumulating on the generator.

DRAINING THE CARBURETOR1. Turn off fuel valve, make sure fuel is drained

and the tank is empty. Residual gasoline leftover a long time will cause difficulty when nextstarting the engine.

2. Position an approved fuel container under thecarburetor drain screw to catch fuel; loosen thescrew. (Fig.20). Allow fuel to drain completelyinto container.

3. Retighten drain screw.

4. After draining the fuel tank and carburetor, startthe engine and allow it to run until the unit runsout of fuel. Consult hazardous wastemanagement guidelines in your area for theproper way to dispose of fuel.

When preparing the generator for storage, followthe guidelines below.
