CHAPTER 1: DOWNLOADING & INSTALLING OWNCLOUD

The ownCloud app for iOS provides the ability to access your department's shared storage space (also called the G:/ drive) or your personal Dornsife storage space (commonly referred to as the U:/ drive) from your iOS device. Follow these instructions to download and install the ownCloud app.

Pre-Download and Installation Steps There are two steps you will need to complete before you can successfully download and install the ownCloud app.

1. Before you can download ownCloud using a Dornsife-paid license, you will need to link your iTunes account with your USC email address.

2. You must log into ownCloud via a web browser and validate your credentials. a. Navigate to https://dtscloud.usc.edu/owncloud/. The ownCloud web portal

displays.

b. Enter your username and password in the appropriate fields. Your username is the portion of your email address that appears before the @ symbol. The password is your Dornsife password. If you are unsure if you have a Dornsife password or you have forgotten your password, contact [email protected]. The ownCloud dashboard displays.

c. Located near the top of the dashboard is a folder that begins with the letters "FSC." Select this folder. The Windows network drive credentials validation screen displays.

d. Enter your username and password. Your username is the portion of your email address that appears before the @ symbol. The password is your Dornsife password.

e. After entering your username and password, select the Save button. The ownCloud portal saves your credential information and refreshes.

This completes the initial setup steps that you must complete before downloading and installing the ownCloud app for iOS devices.

Downloading and Installing the ownCloud App for iOS Devices Complete the following steps to download and install the ownCloud app on your iOS device.

1. Open the App Store on your iOS device. The App Store displays.

2. Select the Purchased option, located at the bottom of the screen. The Purchased screen displays.

3. The ownCloud app will appear on the Purchased screen after the app has been

distributed to your device. Select the Download ( ) option to download the app to your iOS device. The app will begin to download.

4. After the app has finished downloading, select the Open option. The ownCloud app is displayed.

5. The ownCloud app begins the app overview process. Select the Skip option to continue configuring the ownCloud app. The Credentials screen displays.

6. Tap inside of the Server Address field. The field becomes active.

7. Enter https://dtscloud.usc.edu/owncloud/ in the server address field. The ownCloud app will verify the connection to the server and display a Secure Connection Established message below the Server Address field.

8. Tap inside of the Username field and enter your USC NetID. This is the portion of your email address that appears before the @ symbol.

9. Tap inside of the Password field and enter your Dornsife password.

10. After entering the server address and your login credentials, select the Log in option. The ownCloud landing screen displays.

11. On the left side of the screen is a menu. The menu contains a folder that the name begins with the letters 'FSC'. Select that folder. A secondary menu displays.

12. Directly inside the FSC folder is your department's shared storage space (also called the G:/ drive). You can access and upload files to this location, or you can continue to your own personal storage space.

13. From the secondary menu on the left, select the usr folder. A tertiary menu displays.

14. In this menu, there will be a folder that bears your USC NetID (the portion of your email address that appears before the @ symbol). In the example above, the generic folder JUSER is shown. This folder would bear your USC NetID. Select this folder. Your personal storage space is displayed.

The setup and configuration process is complete. Repeat these steps as-is appropriate.

CHAPTER 2: USING THE OWNCLOUD APP FOR IOS DEVICES

After you have downloaded and configured the ownCloud app to work with your iOS device, you can access and work with files contained within your department's shared storage space (the G:/ drive) or your personal storage space (the U:/ drive).

Using the ownCloud Menu Bar The ownCloud app contains a menu of options that are located at the bottom of the app screen.

The menu bar contains the following four (4) options.

Menu Option Description

Files Select this option to return to the main ownCloud dashboard which displays all of the files saved in your personal storage space.

Uploads Select this option to view a listing of files you recently upload to your personal storage space via the ownCloud app.

Shared links Sharing files via ownCloud is not currently supported. Settings Select this option to view the ownCloud app settings. Use these options as-is appropriate.

Working with a File in the ownCloud App The ownCloud app provides the ability to select and preview a file within the app. This allows you to verify you are working with the correct file before you download or share the file. To preview a file, tap the name of the file in the file listing, located on the left side of the screen. The file preview displays on the right side of the screen.

After you have selected a file from the file listing, a file options menu displays at the top of the screen. These options allow you to further work with the selected file.

The file menu bar contains the following four (4) options.

Menu Option Description Open Select this option to open a file within the ownCloud app.

Favorite Select the star icon to Favorite a file. Files that have been favorited will have a golden star next to the file.

Share Sharing files via ownCloud is not currently supported.

Delete Select this option to delete a file from your personal storage space.

Use these options as-is appropriate for your needs.
