ACT I

FADE IN:

INT. PIRATE RAIDER SHIP - HOLD - DAY

Pirates hustle into the hold and begin to haul the spoils

down the ramp.

EXT. JUNGLE CLEARING - DAY

Pirates file out of the various raider ships and stomp down

the ramps, hauling booty towards the clearing.

INT. PIRATE RAIDER SHIP - HOLD - DAY

Owen and Joe peek their heads out and watch as the hold isslowly emptied.

A few hoverjets rest on the other side of the hold.

Joe grabs a piece of stolen equipment from off the floor.

JOE

Owen, if this doesnt work, then,

well, Im really sorry, I guess.

OWENHuh?

Joe lobs the equipment at the hoverjets. It arcs through

the air ... spinning slowly ... and hits one of the

vehicles dead on. The hoverjets begins to topple over.

The pirates rush over to the overturned vehicles, shouting

at each other, pointing fingers. And turning their backs to

the loading ramp.

Joe shoves Owen, pointing furiously at the ramp. The boyshustle towards the opening in the hold.

EXT. LOADING RAMP - DAY

Owen and Joe step out into the jungle sunshine and quickly

jump off the side of the ramp.

EXT. UNDERNEATH LOADING RAMP - DAY

Owen and Joe hide beneath the ramp. They each take a look

above before slinking back into the shadows.

OWENThat was a ridiculously good

throw.

JOE

Thank you.

INT. PIRATE RAIDER SHIP - BRIG - DAY

The pirate guards approach the prisoners, laser guns drawn.

The brigs metal bars rise into the ceiling.

EXT. LOADING RAMP - DAY

Aralla and her fellow prisoners are prodded towards the

clearing by their pirate guards.


Owen sticks his neck out to see whats happening above. He

smacks Joe and points to the ramp.

OWENFound em again.


The prisoners step off the ramp. Dr. Vroon is slow to move,

and one of the guards gives him a shove.

Dr. Vroon tumbles forward, nearly hitting the dirt, but he

braces himself against ... the hovering metal box.

PIRATE GUARDEasy on the merchandise.

ARALLA

Hey!

Kobor and Aralla storm over to the guard. Kobor is almost

eye to eye with the pirate. The two stare each other down.

KOBOR

Dont do that.

Tessaracta goes to Dr. Vroon, helping him to his feet.

PIRATE GUARD

(to Dr. Vroon)

Get moving, old man.

The group begrudgingly continues on.


Owen turns to Joe.

OWENWhyd they bother taking

prisoners? Ransom?

JOE

I guess. I hope.


Dr. Vroon walks beside the other kids.

TESSARACTAAre you alright?

DR. VROON

Im fine enough. And thank you.

Your highness.

(winks)

Never met a princess before.

Tessaracta sizes up an impish, grinning Dr. Vroon.

TESSARACTAWere overrated.

Dr. Vroon extends a wrinkled hand to the children.

DR. VROON

Im Dr. Elimat Vroon.

ARALLA

Kobor.

LOOTHU

And I-I-Im Loothu!

DR. VROON

Excitable, isnt he?

KOBOR

You have no idea.

INT. COLONY COMMUNICATION CENTER DAY

The Administrator monitors the activity in the

communication center.

The scientists from the landing site enter. Chatter in the

room dies down to a quiet murmur.

The Administrator makes her way over to the scientists.

ADMINISTRATOR

What did you find?

SCIENTIST

Touchdown confirmed, maam.

ADMINISTRATOR

Incredible. And? Contact?

The scientists share uncertain glances.

ADMINISTRATOR

What is it?

SCIENTIST

Contact seems likely.

ADMINISTRATOR

Likely? What does that mean? Did

you make contact or not?

SCIENTIST

No maam, we did not. But itslooking like someone else did.


Owen and Joe watch the pirates as a loose ring of booty

forms around the center of the clearing.

Prisoners from the different ships are brought together.

And, across the clearing, are the stolen spaceships.

JOE

There she is, pretty as ever.

EXT. STOLEN SPACESHIPS - DAY

Joes ship stands amongst a dozen others. Pirates make

their way to the clearing, leaving the ships unattended.


Joe smacks Owen and points to stolen ships.

JOE

Found my ship.

Something rumbles above. Owen and Joe look skyward.

EXT. COMMAND SHIP UNDERSIDE - DAY

A rectangular seam appears on the underside of the ship.

Hover engines extend from the sides of the platform as itdetaches from the ship.


The pirates and prisoners watch the platform descend.

Owen and Joe watch as the platform nears the ground.


The platform touches down, surrounded by stolen goods.

EXT. HOVER PLATFORM - DAY

Captain Maleonas stands in the center of the platform,

flanked by more pirates.


Joe groans, pulls at his hair-tentacles dramatically.

JOE

Its Captain Maleonas.

OWEN

Not a good guy?

JOE

Not a good guy. Wed better hurry.

The boys crawl out from under the loading ramp.

EXT. HOVER PLATFORM - DAY

A group of high ranking pirates join Maleonas, all nodding

or bowing slightly in his presence.

MALEONAS

No sign of Security coming out of

hyperspace?

PIRATES

No. / Uh-uh. / No, sir. / etc.

MALEONAS

If theyd tracked us, theyd be

here by now. Lets get started.

Maleonas walks by the mounds of booty, inspecting it

superficially, tossing some items aside.

MALEONASJunk, junk, junk. What is wrong

with you all? Lets have a little

discretion in our looting, hmm?

Maleonas stops his tour, turns to the pirates.

MALEONAS

If we can use it or sell it, it

goes on the platform. The chaff

stays behind.

The high ranking pirates nod and hustle off. Maleonas

continues to peruse the contraband.

The Pirate Scout mulls around ahead.

MALEONAS

And my little scout friend ...

Maleonas grabs the Scout by his weasel neck, robotic hand

pinching the Scouts windpipe shut.

MALEONAS

Let me ask you a question.

Maleonas ponders something, silently, dramatically, as the

Scouts eyes bulge out of their sockets.

MALEONAS

Does it not make sense to confirm

whether or not the Security Force

Admiral happens to be on the very

Jump Ring were about to raidbefore telling us to board it?

The Scout nods frantically. Maleonas mockingly nods back.

MALEONAS

As long as we agree on that point.

The Scout hits the ground, gasping for breath. Maleonas

returns to his inspection.


The kids stand at the edge of the pack of prisoners.Something across the way catches Arallas attention.

KOBOR

What is it?

ARALLA

Thought I saw something.

EXT. EDGE OF JUNGLE CLEARING - DAY

Owen and Joe sneak along the perimeter of the clearing,behind the bulky pirate raider ships.

OWEN

Looks like theyre loading up the

stolen stuff first.

JOE

The more time we got, the better.

INT. JUMP RING - SECURITY COMMAND - SPACE

The Admiral continues to oversee the situation.

Off to the side, Commander Rofolo consults with another one

of the Commandos. Heads nod, the Commando departs, and

Rofolo approaches the Admiral.

ROFOLO

Sir, we havent been able to

locate Dr. Vroon.

ADMIRALAnd the prototype?

ROFOLO

No signs of it either, sir. At

this point, we have to assume that

both have been taken.

ADMIRAL

Wed better hope those pirates

dont realize what they have,

before we get it back.


Dr. Vroon makes his way through the prisoners.

Pirates sort through stolen goods. Dr. Vroon sets his eyes

on one item in particular: the hovering metallic box.

Two pirates make their way over to the box.

Dr. Vroon watches, tense, breathless.

The pirates knock on the nondescript metal surface, try toget a sense of what might be inside. They look at one

another, shrug, and push the box onto the platform.

Dr. Vroons head drops, shoulders sag, the old mans

already small frame shrinking even more.

FADE OUT.

ACT II

FADE IN:


Owen and Joe have almost made it to the stolen ships.

OWEN

Bingo.

JOE

Huh?

OWEN

Nothing.

They move in closer, only twenty feet away ... and then

Maleonas and a half dozen pirates appear from the clearing.

Owen and Joe instinctively take cover.

JOE

Okay thats pushing it.

OWEN

Yup.


Maleonas walks past the ships and looks them over.

MALEONAS

(gesturing at ships)

Take it, take it, leave it.

He stops in front of Joes ship.

MALEONASHmm ...


Owen and Joe follow Maleonas progress.

JOE

What, what, what are you even

hesitating for? Shes a great

ship. Whats wrong with you?

OWENYou want them to take it or

something?

JOE

No, but, thats a high performance

machine. Wish theyd show her a

little more respect is all.


Maleonas gives Joes ship one last look -

MALEONAS

Take it.

- before moving on to the rest.


Owen gives Joe a slow, exaggerated look of disapproval.

JOEYeah, yeah.


Maleonas gives the ships one last cursory glance.

MALEONAS

Good enough. Trash the nav banks

on the ones were leaving behind.

The pirates file onto the unfavorable ships as Maleonasmarches back towards the platform.


A few oafish guards watch over the prisoners.

Aralla catches her friends attention, nods to the side.

They form a loose huddle away from the guards.

ARALLA

Kobor, how many of these guys you

think you could take on at once?

KOBOR

Ill put those three over there to

sleep right now if you want.

ARALLA

Not yet, too much attention. Wed

never get out of here.

Aralla looks across the clearing at the stolen ships.

ARALLA

But if we managed to hide onboard

my ship and wait for them to

leave, theyd never be the wiser.

Youre looking at two or three of

those morons onboard, tops. Then,

once we clear orbit -

Kobor smashes a fist into an open palm.

ARALLAExactly.

KOBOR

I like. Wish we could do it twice.

ARALLA

As long as they dont notice us

sneak on, we should be good.

LOOTHU

What about everyone else?

ARALLA

We cant take them all. But well

get back to the Ring and get help.

TESSARACTA

Everyonell be gone by then.

ARALLA

You know we cant take them, Tess.

Tessaracta looks over at the other prisoners. Dr. Vroon

stands on his own, lost in thought.


The pirates walk away from the stolen ships.


Owen and Joe hustle towards the ships.

EXT. JOES SHIP - DAY

Joe runs over to his silvery spaceship, hugs it, kisses its

hull, gives it a loving pat.

JOE

Ill be back, baby. Hang tight.

(to Owen)

Alright, lets grab the others and

get us out of here.

OWEN

Wait, wait, wait. Joe, what are wedoing? Whats the plan?

JOE

We ... grab the others.

OWEN

Yeah, I know that, but how?

JOE

Hey Im going one step at a time

here.

OWEN

One step at a time?

JOE

Owen, I dont know about you, but

I havent rescued many friends

from the clutches of infamous

pirates, okay? This is a little

new to me. And all Ive got, rightnow, is that we grab them while we

still can, get them back to my

ship, and get as far away from

here as possible.

OWEN

Wont these guys just chase us?

JOE

Maybe. Probably. Well deal with

that if we have to. And wererunning out of time.


Owen and Joe return to their stealthy path, the raider

ships between them and the center of the clearing.

Joe glances back at the stolen ships.

JOE

I miss her already.


Aralla and her friends make their way to the back of the

mass of prisoners, closer to the jungle.


Owen and Joe come around one of the raider ships. The

prisoners stand fifty feet away.


One of the pirates hops onto a hoverjet and starts it up.


Owen and Joe sneak towards the prisoners.

Aralla and the others stand at the back of the prisoners,

glancing at the nearby, and clueless, pirate guards.

And thirty feet away, lurking in the shadows of the closest

raider ship, stand Owen and Joe.

KOBOR

Is that ... ?

ARALLA

Joe?

LOOTHU

I dont believe it.

EXT. PIRATE RAIDER SHIP - DAY

Owen and Joe spot the others, staring right back at them.

Owen offers a wave. Joe smacks Owens hand down.

JOE

(whispering)

Stop it!


Aralla, Kobor, Tessaracta and Loothu take a step away from

the other prisoners.

Joe grabs Owen. They dash out of the shadows.

And the pirate on the hoverjet appears.

The pirate makes a slow looping turn towards the platform.

Which brings him face to face with Owen and Joe.

The kids are still. Same goes for the pirate.

PIRATE

What ... are you two ... doing?

The pirate looks back and forth between the boys and the

prisoners - the gears very slow to turn with this one -

before he scrambles for his laser gun.

Owen reaches out and shoves the pirate off the hoverjet.

The pirate hits the dirt, dumbstruck.

Once again, everyones still. Aralla breaks the spell.

ARALLA

Run!

JOE

Run? Run where?!

Owen jumps onto the vacant hoverjet, grips the controls.

OWEN

(to Joe)

Get on?

Joe hops on behind Owen, holding onto Owens waist.

JOE

Do you know how to ride one of

these things?!

OWENNot really.

The hoverjet bolts forward.


The hoverjet flies around the clearing like a wild bottle

rocket. The sound of its roaring engines is matched only by

the screams of the two boys riding it.

EXT. OWENS HOVERJET - DAY

Owen struggles with the hoverjets controls as Joe tries to

hang onto Owen for dear life.

All eyes, pirates and prisoners alike, follow the hoverjet

as it loops and spins thirty feet above the ground.

It comes insanely and repeatedly close to hitting raiderships, stacked booty, and gawking pirates.

Maleonas watches the hoverjet with muted curiosity. It

turns, then heads in his direction. He cocks an eyebrow.

The hoverjet - Owen and Joe still screaming like idiots -

careens towards Maleonas.

Maleonas drops to his stomach, just barely managing to keep

his head as the hoverjet zooms above him.

The hoverjet flies past. Maleonas gets to his feet and

dusts himself off. He is far from amused.


Aralla and her friends watch the spectacle, mouths agape.

ARALLA

This is why I wanted to go

unnoticed.


Owen is focused, eyes keen, mouth taut, knuckles white.

Joe just moans behind him.

OWEN

(shouting over engine)

I think Im getting the hang of

it ...


Sure enough, the hoverjets flight is far less erratic.

The hoverjet makes a wide banking turn high above the

clearing, circling over the platform below.

JOENow what?


The high ranking pirates rush over to Maleonas side.

MALEONAS

(watching Owen and Joe)

I dont think theyre coming down.

He nods towards the remaining hoverjets.

MALEONAS

Go get them already.


Both kids watch as the pirates man the hoverjets below.

JOE

Uh oh.


The pirates set their hoverjets in gear and rocket skyward.


Joe twists backwards, watching as the pirate hoverjets gain

altitude and head towards the boys.

OWEN

Whats the call?!

JOE

Lose em!

The boys fly towards the jungle.

The pirates follow.

FADE OUT.

ACT III

FADE IN:

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The crimson jungle is expansive, but not particularly

dense. Golden pillars of sunlight cut through the canopy.

Thin, gangly trees fill the air, their newspaper-wide

leaves hanging from drooping branches.

Theres plenty of room for hoverjets to manoeuvre. And its

a good thing, because the chase is on.

Owen and Joe race through the jungle, their hoverjet

bobbing and weaving through the foliage.

Theres distance between the pirates and the boys, but the

gaps not getting any bigger.

The boys bank left and right, up and down, snaking through

the trees. Owen seems to be adjusting to the hoverjet

rather well, each turn tighter than the one before.

EXT. PIRATE HOVERJETS - DAY

The pirates unholster their laser guns and take aim.


Lasers whiz by the kids.

JOE

Ahh!!

None of the lasers hit the boys, but some ricochet off of

the hoverjet, scorching metal.

OWEN

Hows this thing holding up?

JOE

The hoverjet can take it. We

cant.

(looks down)

Especially not from up here ...

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The boys fly forward, avoiding branches, trunks, and

massive leaves, laser fire at their backs.


The pirates struggle to aim their lasers while steering.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

Lasers zip through the air near the boys, but dont hit.

The foliage to the right of Owen and Joe begins to change

as the thin, leafy vegetation gives way to thick, looming

banyan-esque jungle trees.

The strip of banyans creeps closer to the boys.


A wall of banyans appears straight ahead.

OWEN

Woah!

Owen jerks the hoverjet to the left.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The boys narrowly avoid entering banyan territory.


Joe stares at the daunting banyans, again on the right.

JOE

Too close, Owen, too close!

More laser fire shoots past their heads, and they hunker

down instinctively. Joe smacks Owen on the back.

JOE

Lets go, lets go!

OWEN

Just hold on!

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

A chorus of squeaks and chirps begins to grow, drowning out

the sound of the hoverjets.

Then the air is clogged with bird/bat/reptilian things that

dive out from the trees and fill the jungle.


The boys cling even tighter to their hoverjet as they pass

through the thick cloud of flying creatures, a few of them

smacking against the hoverjets small windshield.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The pursuing pirates are engulfed by the flying things.


A pirate comes face to face with one of the flying

creatures and is knocked off his hoverjet.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The dismounted pirate falls twenty feet to the ground. His

aimless hoverjet connects with a tree and explodes.


The pirates and the prisoners all watch as a tendril of

black smoke rises from the jungle and into the sky.

The kids are stunned and silent.

Maleonas looks at his gawking minions.

MALEONAS

Get the platform loaded.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

One pirate doubles back towards his fallen comrade. Theothers continue on after the boys.


Joe looks back and spots the explosion.

Owen pushes the hoverjet towards the dirt, skimming above

the ground and below the creatures.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The hoverjets pass through the swarm of flying things and

back into the open - and chase-friendly - jungle.

The boys have put more distance between themselves and the

pirates. But the laser fire returns.


Owen looks back at the pirates that follow behind them.

OWENOh come on.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The jungle begins to thin. The light grows up ahead.

EXT. JUNGLE WATERFALL - DAY

Owen and Joe burst out of the jungle foliage.

To their left is the expansive lip of a massive horseshoe-shaped waterfall. Before them, a two hundred foot drop into

churning whirlpools.

Spray from the waterfall backs vibrant rainbows, caves

behind partially visible. The thick crimson jungle lines

the wide river that feeds the waterfall.

Owen soaks in the sight.


The scene is entirely alien, and absolutely beautiful.

Then the pirates appear, and the laser fire returns.

Owen steers the hoverjet towards the curtain of water.


Owen hugs the waterfall, the hoverjet almost sideways as it

follows the curving wall of water. Joe holds on tight.

Owen begins to laugh.

JOE

Are you laughing right now?!

Owen responds with more laughter.

JOE

Unbelievable.


The pirates follow Owen and Joes arcing nose dive.


Owen takes a quick look back at the pirates.

OWEN

This isnt working.

Owen pulls back violently on the hoverjets controls.


Owens hoverjet pulls away from the waterfall, climbing,

nearly vertical, flying back up towards the jungle above.

The pirates mirror the aggressive manoeuvre.

Owens hoverjet hits vertical. Then its upsidedown,

inverted, before Owen rolls the hoverjet upright.

The boys head for the jungle, followed by the pirates.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

Owen and Joe zip through familiar jungle foliage.


The pirate command ship is partially visible through the

jungle canopy, looming above the jungle clearing ahead.

JOE

Were heading back?

OWEN

Something like that.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The pirates continue to chase after the lone hoverjet.

Oily black and yellow pods hang from the surrounding trees.

The pods open. Venom-dripping fangs are revealed. The podslunge at the hoverjets.


Owen grips the controls tightly as he weaves through the

carnivorous flora.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The pods snap at Owen and Joe, unsuccessfully.

Unfortunately for the boys, the pirates are equally lucky.

Then theyre all through, leaving the black pods behind.


Owen scans the jungle frantically.

OWEN

There we go.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The dense body of banyan-like trees appear up ahead. And

Owen pilots the hoverjet right for them.


Joe sees where theyre headed. His yellow eyes bulge.

JOE

Owen, Owen, be careful, man!

OWENI know what Im doing.

They reach the banyans.

EXT. BANYAN FOREST - DAY

Owen pulls back on the throttle as the boys enter the

throng of banyan trees.

The vine-wrapped trees are woven together like organic

catacombs. Oppressive, twisting corridors, the sunlightabove just barely breaking through the canopy.

Fallen trunks and sharp turns make for dangerous riding.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The pirates near the banyans and enter, equally cautious.


Bobbing, weaving, every turn brings Owens hoverjet withinan arms reach of a gnarled banyan trunk.


Owen means business as he cuts through the trees.

OWEN

They still back there?

Joe glances back, can only make out quick flashes of the

pursuing hoverjets through the trees.

JOE

Not right behind, but not that far

back either.

OWEN

Get ready.

JOE

Huh? For what?

Owen and Joe swoop around a large trunk. Another massivebanyan awaits dead ahead.

Owen grabs a hold of Joes jumpsuit and guns the engine.


The pirates weave through the trees, and encounter an

expanding inferno.


The pirates scramble to avoid the explosion and flaming

banyan trees, spreading out in all directions.

The danger avoided, they slowly, carefully, return to the

burning wreckage of the boys hoverjet.

FIRST PIRATE

Yikes.

SECOND PIRATE

What a mess.

The pirates shake their heads in dismay. One even takes off

a techno pirate hat to pay his respects.

THIRD PIRATE

Lets get back then.

The pirates turn, and head back through the banyan trees.


The droning of hoverjet engines grows louder, and the

hoverjet-riding pirates appear.

They circle briefly before settling down near Maleonas.

FIRST PIRATE

Sir, we tried grabbing the two of

em, but before we could, they ...

took a wrong turn. Head first.

A second pillar of smoke now rises above the jungle canopy.

MALEONASUnfortunate. Those were good

machines.

Maleonas turns away from the jungle.

MALEONS

Finish loading the platform.

The pirates nod, then move their hoverjets towards the

platform.


Across the clearing, Aralla and her friends stare at the

black smoke as it rises higher into the alien sky.

FADE OUT.
