The main factors of EV development in Taiwan

Unified EV charging form & types

A

BC

Eliminate range anxiety

EV charging stations need to be universal and be supported by local policies and regulations

The convenience of charging stations and maintenance cost are key considerations

1. Not easy to install charging stations in existing building

2. The development of public charging infrastructure is too slow

When charging specs are not unified, the installation cost for charging stations are high and hence the economic benefits are low

Benchmarking & Methodology (Europe, Japan)

In early stages, CPO and vehicle brands work together on the infrastructure

• A joint venture between BMW Group, Ford Motor, Hyundai Motor, Mercedes Benz AG and Volkswagen with Audi and Porsche established in 2017

• The plan to build 400 Ionity super power charging stations in Europe

• Currently there are 800 DC charging stations built in 203 locations

IONITYNCS

• A joint venture between Honda, Nissan, Toyota established in 2013

• Installation Plan: Install charging stations mainly in gas stations, high way, shopping malls

• Through Membership: Release membership cards for charging at all locations

DC charging specs yet to unify

Infrastructure development plan with policy yet to

exist

Residential buildings are difficult to install

charging stations

Power supply strained

Breakthrough

New CPO already invested to establish proactively

Central Government states CCS1+N will be promoted

Central Government is planning to establish public charging infrastructure with target to

install 7800

• Central Government to revise and update regulations for condominium management

• Local Government: Taipei City Government has formed a consulting team for existing building to install EV charging

Though policy recommendations, projects, and comprehensive standard specs, to promote the installation and development of infrastructure

To create commercial value with win-win benefits that becomes added value for distributors and achieving wide spread purpose

Increase usage of company electrical vehicles with charging solutions and services

Incorporating brand resources with service to vehicle owners as the core and creating hot spot benefits

Ex. highway service areas, taxi rest stops, parking lots with coffee shop etc.
