Groundbreaking: June 4, 1990 Key operational dates:
– First light: March 26, 1995 – First user operations run: early 1996
Initial configuration and subsequent changes – All beamlines funded, built , and operated by Collaborative Access Teams (CATs) – 20 initially – Transition to APS-operated beamlines began in late 2001-early 2002 – Current (FY2013) configuration: 32 CAT beamlines, 34 APS-operated beamlines (45 ID, 21 BM)
First partially centralized proposal system for Independent Investigators: early 2000 Initiation of current central proposal system for General Users: October 1, 2002 Expansion of central proposal system to include all proposals: February 2009 Beginning of central scheduling system: May 2009

APS Proprietary Process and Pricing
Must have a proprietary user agreement in place to cover liability, intellectual
property, and payments – Currently there are 110 proprietary user agreements in place – Must have a prefunded user account in place
Proprietary rate for FY12 is $361.58/hour Proprietary income from FY2012 was $1,966.8K (~10% of APS operating budget)
