Page 3: Overcoming Worry

Page 4: Overcoming Worry

Worry –  to strangle or choke

• Causes more mental and physical afflictions than anything else.

• Substance of worry is extremely small compared to our mental picture

• Worry is opposite of contentment

Page 5: Overcoming Worry

Contentment comes because God Provides for His own

• Jehovah-Jireh• Genesis 22:14 (ESV) So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

Philippians 4:19 (ESV)

II. Worry Is Unnecessary Because of Our Father

• No need to Worry-Have you forgotten who your Father is?• Worry About Food• Worry About Longevity• Worry About Clothing• If God cares for the flowers and grass, how much more is He

concerned about you.

Page 9: Overcoming Worry

Worry is not a trivial sin because it strikes a blow

• at God’s love• at God’s integrity. • Worry declares our heavenly Father to be untrustworthy

you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might

for the day is its own trouble.”

Page 18: Overcoming Worry

Philippians 4:4–9 (NLT)4 Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! 5

Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.  6 Don’t worry

about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and

minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Page 19: Overcoming Worry

8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—

everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then

the God of peace will be with you.
