RESET Week 5 Begins!Reminder. This must be done with fidelity for 7 minutes each morning. We just learned a few new MOVES at PD today. Please use. Arianna
can’t stay mad for too long w/RESET (she’s acting to the left,
btw).
Our Vision and MissionThe vision of OEC is to be a model school in the School
District of Philadelphia by 2020 as rated by the School
Progress Report (SPR) while creating the least restrictive
environment for students with special needs. Additionally,
100% of our 8th graders will have the opportunity to
attend the high school of their choice. We will
accomplish this through:
-Ambitious Instruction-A Supportive Environment
-Involved Families-Collaborative Staff
-Effective Leadership
Our mission is to prepare students to become positive,
productive citizens who can live
independently and with purpose to
serve others and to ensure proficiency (or above) for all students in each subject area and development of
strong character.
At least 80% of students and 90% of staff will attend 95% or more of school days (miss 9 days or less).
At least 70% of students will earn A’s and B’s in core courses in grades 5-8.
At least 82% of K-2nd grade will score at target on the Spring aimsweb and make at least 1 year’s growth from Q1 to Q4 in their independent reading levels.
The percentage of students scoring at proficient or
advanced on the ELA PSSA will increase by 15% in each
grade level.
No more than 20% of students will score below basic on the math PSSA.
At least 80% of students will attend 95% or more of school days (miss 9 days or less).
TIps to help reach our goal:
- Schedule vacations during breaks or long weekends
- Establish a consistent morning routine
- Make any doctors’ appointments early in the morning
or late in the afternoon so your child can still come in
for a half day
- Stay updated on your child’s absences and please
contact us if we can support you in any way!
of students currently have
95% attendance or above.
Great job!
Best Practices: This Week!2B Establishing a Culture for Learning 2C Managing Classroom Procedures
Last week student's read Monkey's Paw in 8th grade. Ms. Presser had an exemplar that was coded out with labels for introduction, task, and text evidence. She had the thesis statement underlined and then had a first paragraph with topic sentences, quotes, and explanations with analysis for students to see how to replicate. Great job, Ms. Presser!
Mr. Tyler did an excellent job providing students with real-world responsibilities - every student was practicing for their job in the school store and was able to define their role and job tasks. Keep it up, Mr. Tyler! We are thrilled to have the school store back for year two!!!
2D Managing Student Behaviors 3A Communicating With Students
Mr. Stephenson did a great health lesson with K-2 VI students in Ms. Sell’s class as they were able to explain that they were learning about family and friends and how to respect each other. Students created visuals of their family to reflect what they learned and 100% of students had their visuals started or completed and were proud to share them. Great job, Mr. Stephenson!
Mr. Woodman had just finished an intense lesson with a student 1:1. T. Burroughs expressed how challenging and tiring completing his contractions in braille were and was able to explain exactly what he had completed in Mr. Woodman’s class. We are so proud of you Tahsir! Great job, Mr. Woodman!

Message from Parent Ms. Woodall: I work for Shriner’s Hospitals for Children and each year we have a Walk for Love. Please see the flyer to the left. My department is raising money for the event and we have decided to give out bracelets with a minimum donation of $1. I was hoping we could gain some support from the OEC Staff and Family. The event takes place Oct 5th and the flyer gives instructions on how you all can get further involved. Should anyone want a bracelet and donate $1 please have them email me and I can arrange a drop off to the school and provide a donation box. Thanks for your [email protected]
